Damage assessment for slopes using geographical information system(GIS) has been actively carried out by researchers working on several government organizations and research institutes in Korea. In this study, 596 slope damages were examined to identify the types of damage associated with dip angles, dip directions, and heavy rainfall resulting from typhoons in South Korea. Heavy rainfall of 100 mm to 300 mm resulted in 80% at the investigated slope damages. A GIS database was developed for highways, rainfall, soil or rock geometry, and types of damage. A grid of rainfall intensity was generated from the records of maximum daily rainfall. Contours for slope damages and heavy rainfall using optimal GIS mesh dimensions were generated to visualize damage patterns and show substantially strong correlation of rainfall with slope damages. The combination of remote sensing with the GIS pattern recognition process described in this work are being expanded for a new generation of emergency response and rapid decision support systems. 展开更多

In order to establish a rapid method for regional slope stability analysis under rainfall,matric suction and seepage force were taken into account after obtaining explicit solution of infiltration depth.Moreover,simplified analysis model under 3D condition was put forward based on identification and division of slope units,as well as modification of sliding direction of each column.The result shows that explicit solution of infiltration depth is of good precision;for the given model,safety factors without taking seepage force into account are 1.82-2.94 times higher;the stagnation point of slope angle is located approximately in the range of(45°,50°);the safety factor changes insignificantly when wetting front is deeper than 2 m;when matric suction changes in the specified range,the maximum variations of safety factor are less than 0.5,which proves that matric suction plays an insignificant role in maintaining slope stability compared to the slope angle and infiltration depth.Incorporated with geographic information system,a practical application of regional slope stability assessment verifies the applicability of the proposed method. 展开更多

Rainfall is an important factor to trigger the debris flow.Numerical simulation on the responses of slopes and the initiation of debris flow under rainfall was processed by using the software FLAC2D based on the soil parameters in Weijia Gully,Beichuan County,Sichuan Province,China.The effects of the slope angle,rainfall intensity,soil parameters on the developments of the stress and pore pressure and deformation of the slope were studied.It indicates that large displacements of the slope are mainly located near the slope toe.With the increase of the rainfall intensity the stability of the slope decreases and so the debris-flow is easy to occur. 展开更多
