A good mastery of an English word covers its pronunciation, spelling, part of speech, meaning and application. This article will focus only on factors affecting the retention and application of a word from the perspective of semantic disparities, different defining angles in English and Chinese, emotional coloring and styles, morphological changes, and collocation. However, as China is one of initiated countries of the BRIC nations, domestic mainstream media witnessed widespread coverage to justify Bank＇s roles. Therefore, this paper, based on Halliday＇s Meta-language Function theory, intends to explore the significance of BRIC Banks from the perspective of domestic mainstream media. The theorisation of language is a keystone towards conceptualising par...This paper examines the relationship between language, particularly language that expresses aesthetic experiences of plant life, and corporeality. The theorisation of language is a keystone towards conceptualising participatory relationships between people and the botanical world. A comparative reading of the works of Henry David Thoreau and Martin Heidegger provides a framework for approaching language as embodied participation. Despite political differences, Thoreau and Heidegger shared a mutual conviction about the generative powers of language. Thoreau＇s literary practice partly involved immersion in places such as swamps and forests. Fittingly, Heidegger＇s explication of Rilke＇s concept of＂the Open＂ mirrors the participatory aesthetics of Thoreau. Both thinkers looked towards the capacities of poetics to galvanise the evolution of language. In response to the increasing dissection offered by contemporaneous theories of linguistics, Thoreau and Heidegger held the notion of language as a body in itself, one brought to life through immanence between sensuous bodies in the world. For each theorist, language was both bodily and a body. Their works evidence that multi-sensorial encounters with the natural world can be captured in language. The body of language may be engaged with as a whole living phenomenon rather than a dissected corpse as this comparative reading of Thoreau and Heidegger will intimate.展开更多

The pre...There are philosophers and logicians who do think that the Trinity-triangle makes up an evident formal-logic inconsistency demonstrating convincingly that Christian faith is illogical and hence irrational one. The present paper submits a systematic counter-argumentation against such thinking. According to the submitted counter-arguments, there is no formal-logic inconsistency in the Holy-Trinity-triangle： There is only a logic-linguistic illusion of such inconsistency which illusion is naturally produced by the ambiguity of the word ＂is＂ in natural language. The author has invented an effective remedy for that illusion, namely, a precise formulation of the generalized and thus modernized Guillotine of Hume by means of an artificial language of two-valued algebraic system of formal ethics of moral rigor. Systematical using the mathematized formulation of the generalized Hume＇s Guillotine cuts down the mentioned linguistic illusion of logical inconsistency. Thus, the paper essentially interconnects discrete mathematical representations of formal iogic of thinking and formal ethics of acting. In relation to contemporary symbolic logic, the author submits not a technical result solving some important particular problem concerning some specific system of symbolic logic but a significantly new result of conceptual work concerning logic in general and its interconnection with mathematical ethics. The old idea of logic as a moral science is transformed into a novel idea of symbolic logic as a brunch of mathematical ethics. In particular, two-valued algebra of classical formal logic is considered as a particular case of two-valued algebra of formal ethics of moral rigor. The submitted conception of logic is instantiated by applying it to the knotty logic-problem of Holy-Trinity-triangle.展开更多
Motions of single poly（c-caprolactone） （PCL） molecules during the formation of the dendrite crystals in ultrathin films are captured by single molecule fluorescence microscopy. The relationship of single molecule ...Motions of single poly（c-caprolactone） （PCL） molecules during the formation of the dendrite crystals in ultrathin films are captured by single molecule fluorescence microscopy. The relationship of single molecule diffusion coefficient with the crystal growth rate, together with radius curvature, side-branch spacing of dendrite crystal and morphology are examined. The results support Mullins-Sekerka （MS） instability as the origin of lamellar branching induced by a diffusion field generated by a gradient of polymer segment density ahead of the crystal. Further analysis of the molecular trajectories has recognized different types of motions, depending on the distance to the crystal front： Fickian diffusion in regions far away from the crystal, sub-diffusion in regions adjacent to the crystal, and directed motion between these two regions. Anti-correlation of successive steps is discovered accompanying the sub-diffusion, providing a clear signature of macromolecule crowding at the crystal growth front. This anomalous diffusion process in polymer ultrathin films presents a new insight into the understanding of the retarded dynamics of interfacial mass transport towards the crystal front. It is considered to play a decisive role in controlling the crystal growth and evolution of crystal morphology.展开更多
