Taking into account the reaction mechanismincluding single substrate hydrolysis, irreversible enzymeinactivation, and substrate inhibition, a set of exponentialequations was established to characterize the enzymatic hydrolysiscurves. The verification was carried out by a series of experimentalresults and indicated that the average regressive error was less than5/100. According to the proposed kinetic model, the kinetic constantsand thermodynamic constants of the reaction system were alsocalculated.展开更多

This paper presents...Born of the America of 1960s, performance art comes along as a celebration of presentation rather than re-presentation, as a display form of art, and an art form that does not admit of duplication. This paper presents a reading of the seductive power of performance art as rooted in our theatrical nature. I will address performance art as an emancipated form of the theatrical, where by ＂theatrical＂ I mean a specific mode of presentation and a specific mode of perception： the mode of presentation of the self to the social and the mode of perception of the self through the social. Performance art, I will argue, is hardly an anomaly of our time. Rather, its source of disturbance and fascination lies in the natural, though excessive manifestation of our theatrical nature. By its appeal to the shocking, the perilous, or the mundane even, this form of art confirms what Paul Woodruff has addressed as ＂the necessity of watching and being watched.＂ Performance art shows us the danger of self-presentation, the recognition of the other gaze as the self＇s greatest need and greatest fear. It needs no words. Mere action is more seductive than speech and does not accept speech in return. Once it has been performed, it is no longer. In Nietzsche＇s words, it celebrates the fleeting moment＇s ＂greatest weight.＂ As Samuel Beckett used to tell his actors, performance artists seem to tell their spectators： ＂Go on failing. Go on. Jacquard image segmentation is one of the primary steps in image analysis for jacquard pattern identification. The main aim is to recognize homogeneous regions within a jacquard image as distinct, which belongs to dif...Jacquard image segmentation is one of the primary steps in image analysis for jacquard pattern identification. The main aim is to recognize homogeneous regions within a jacquard image as distinct, which belongs to different patterns. Active contour models have become popular for finding the contours of a pattern with a complex shape. However, the performance of active contour models is often inadequate under noisy environment. In this paper, a robust algorithm based on the Mumford-Shah model is proposed for the segmentation of noisy jacquard images. First, the Mumford-Shah model is discretized on piecewise linear finite element spaces to yield greater stability. Then, an iterative relaxation algorithm for numerically solving the discrete version of the model is presented. In this algorithm, an adaptive triangular mesh is refined to generate Delaunay type triangular mesh defined on structured triangulations, and then a quasi-Newton numerical method is applied to find the absolute minimum of the discrete model. Experimental results on noisy jacquard images demonstrated the efficacy of the proposed algorithm.展开更多

Among several meanings of destination, the most...In his Commentary on Plato＇s Phaedo, Damascius establishes a close relation between destination （lexis）, divine Justice, and life dignity （kat＇aian） of every soul. Among several meanings of destination, the most relevant one is related to the condition of the soul after death. Consequently, the purpose of this paper is to consider how this neoplatonic term is conceived in Dionysius Areopagite. For that purpose, the author will analyze such term widely used in the chapter 7 of Ecclesiastic Hierarchy in which Dionysius deals with the funerary rite and in which the notes of the dionysian eschatology are found. In other words, Dionysius＇ use of this term combines a spiritual and a metaphysic perspective. The former is part of the representation of the dionysian universe in which even the angels receive the name of lexeis and are distinguished by their never ending movement around the Thearchia; the latter is present among humans as a call to imitate such angelic condition. Such imitation is not possible without the effort needed to behave in agreement with an honorable lifestyle （kat＇axian, neoplatonic expression also used by Dionysius） that opens the door to a condition or rank granted to man after death.展开更多
Nearly half of the global population are carriers of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori),a Gram-negative bacterium that persists in the healthy human stomach. H. pylori can be a pathogen and causes development of peptic ul...Nearly half of the global population are carriers of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori),a Gram-negative bacterium that persists in the healthy human stomach. H. pylori can be a pathogen and causes development of peptic ulcer disease in a certain state of the macroorganism. It is well established that H. pylori infection is the main cause of chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer disease(PUD). Decontamination of the gastric mucosa with various antibiotics leads to H. pylori elimination and longer remission in this disease. However,the reasons for repeated detection of H. pylori in recurrent PUD after its successful eradication remain unclear. The reason for the redetection of H. pylori in recurrent PUD can be either reinfection or ineffective anti-Helicobacter therapy. The administration of antibacterial drugs can lead not only to the emergence of resistant strains of microorganisms,but also contribute to the conversion of H. pylori into the resting(dormant) state. The dormant forms of H. pylori have been shown to play a potential role in the development of relapses of PUD. The paper discusses morphological H. pylori forms,such as S-shaped,C-shaped,U-shaped,and coccoid ones. The authors proposes the classification of H. pylori according to its morphological forms and viability.展开更多
