Thus, the questions of whether it can be predicted from gastritis morphology, who is at risk and who has a lower risk of developing gastric carcinoma are raised. H pylori-infection leads to erosions, ulcerations, carcinoma, mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT)- lymphoma and extragastric diseases only in some individuals. The frequency of ulcerations among H pylori-infected individuals is estimated to be 13%, gastric cancer about 1% and MALT lymphoma around 0.1%. In the literature a multistep model from chronic active H pylori -infection through multifocal atrophy, intestinal metaplasia, dysplasia (intraepithelial neoplasia) and carcinoma has been described. But this model cannot be applied to all routine cases. Since risk factors such as metaplasia and atrophy are paracancerous rather than precancerous conditions, this raises the question whether there is a better morphological marker. Differences in topography, grade and activity of Helicobacter gastritis in the antrum and corpus might be good markers for identifying those who are at risk of developing gastric cancer. It is known that the so-called corpus dominant H pylori gastritis is found more frequently among individuals with early and advanced gastric cancer and within high risk populations. This is valid both for first- degree relatives of gastric cancer patients and for patients with gastric adenoma and hyperplastic polyps. In conclusion, corpus-dominant H pylori gastritis is significantly more common in patients with advanced and early gastric cancer, first-degree relatives of patients with gastric cancer, patients with gastric adenoma and gastric hyperplastic polyps. Therefore, all these patients are at risk of developing gastric cancer. Next, the question of who is at risk of developing corpus-dominant gastritis is raised. It appears that patients with a low acid output more frequently develop gastric cancer. Eradication therapy is never performed too early but probably sometimes too late after the patients pass a “point of no return”. Large prospective long term studiesare necessary to prove this and identify new reliable markers for gastric cancer development.展开更多

The published data indicate that these tumors, in contrast to their midgut counterparts, metastasize in approximately half of cases irrespective of primary tumor size. Therefore, radical excision in the form of pancreaticoduodenectomy is recommended regardless of tumor size. As with other gastrointestinal carcinoid tumors, biological treatment with octreotide analogues can be applied to symptomatic patients. Tumor-targeted radioactive therapy is a newly emerging treatment option. We here report case of a carcinoid tumor of the ampulla of Vater presenting as painless jaundice in a 65-year old man and review the relevant literature, giving special attention to the mor- phologic features, clinical characteristics, and treatment modalities associated with this disease process.展开更多

Methods 4-week-old mice were infected four times intraperitoneally with a timedependent dose and killed at the 10th, 30th and 60th day after the final infection respectively, then we examined the heart changes and collagen hyperplasia by HE, VG stain and 1HC. Results Heart damage appeared very serious at the tenth day, even there were small necrotic foci at the day of 30th, but we could not see any injury of heart 2 months later after final infection. Collagen turned up at the tenth day and there was much more collagen in heart and increased PCVA, CVF index at the sixtieth day. The 1HC of collagen demonstrated the collagen I hyperplasia was much obvious compared to collagen Ⅲ. Conclusion It strongly indicated that repetitive infection of CVB3m could lead to heart fibrosis and ventricular remodeling, which resulted in decreased systolic and diastolic function of heart.展开更多

Broilers were randomly allotted by BW to 1 of 6 replicate cages (29 chicks per cage) for each of 8 treatments in a randomized block design involving one factorial arrangement of treatments. Dietary treatments included the basal diet (including corn, soybean, rapeseed, cottonseed meal) added with 100 mg/kg antibiotic, 0%, 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.15%, 0.2%, 0.25% or 0.3%. The experiment last 42 d and divided into the starter period (1-21 d) and the finisher period (22-42 d). The results showed that there were significant differences in broiler body weight (BW) (P〈0.001), average daily feed intake (ADFI) (P=0.033), relative length of the duodenum (P〈0.001), jejunum (P=0.008), ileum (P〈0.001) and the populations of lactobacillus (P〈0.001) and coliform (P〈0.001) in the rectum between the probiotics treatments and the control treatment only in the starter period of the trails. No significant differences were observed in intestinal morphology parameters in two periods of the experiment. Our results indicated that the probiotic was able to improve the performance of broiler chickens, and it was better in the starter period to be used than in the finisher period.展开更多

A series of mechanical parameters including the pressure strain and velocity were recorded. Morphological characteristics were observed under scanning electron microscope. Results: The form of sacral fracture was related to the impact energy. Under low-energy impact loads, ilium fracture, acetabulum fracture and crista iliaca fracture were found. Under high-energy impact loads, three types of sacral fracture occurred according to the classification of Denis: sacral ala fracture, Type 1 fracture; sacral foramen cataclasm fracture, Type lI fracture; central vertebral canal fracture, Type m fracture. Nerve injury of one or two sides was involved in all three types of sacral fracture. The fracture mechanism of sacrum between the dynamic impact and static compression was significantly different. When the impact energy was above 25 J, sacral foramen cataclasm fracture occurred, involving nerve root injury. When it was below 20 J, ilium and sacral fracture was most likely to occur. When it was 20 - 25 J, Type l fracture would occur. While in the static test, most of the fracture belonged to ilium or acetabulum fracture. The cross section of sacrum was crackly and the bone board of Haversian system was brittle, which could lead to separation of bone boards and malposition of a few of cross bone boards. Conclusions: In dynamic state, sacrum fracture mostly belongs to Type I and Type lI, and usually involves the nerve roots. Sacrum fracture is relevant to the microstructures, the distribution of the bone trabecula, the osseous lacuna and the Haversian system of sacrum. The fracture of ilium and acetabulum more frequently appears in static state, with slight wound of peripheral tissues.展开更多

Methods: With the patients' informed consent, parts of tissue samples were obtained from a 51-year-old diabetic patient who was suffering lower extremity ulcers. The samples were processed with hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining and Masson trichrome staining. The keratin 19, keratin 15 and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) were immunohistochemically detected. Results: The results of HE staining showed that the specimen was divided into two regions, newborn area and original epithelial area. There were more inflammatory cells infiltrating in the dermis in the newborn epithelial area, compared with the original epithelial area. Cells in newborn epithelial area were more active and many dinuclear and polynuclear cells were observed in newborn epithelial area. But there were more cuticular layers and obvious rete pegs in original epithelial area. In addition, the cells with keratin 19 and CEA positive were found around hair follicle, while keratin 15 was negative. Masson trichrome staining showed that there was a lot of de novo collagen in newborn epithelial area. Conclusion: Epidermal cells on the fascia side of the flap could be derived from the stem cells. Negative pressure wound therapy would attract not only cells but also other elements such as growth factors, cytokines, some nutrients and extracellular matrix. With the formation of the appropriate microenvironment after debridement, the migrated cells can grow, differentiate and spread, eventually leading to the epithelization on the fascia side of the flap in diabetic foot.展开更多
