ON CLASSICAL BCH CODES AND QUANTUM BCH CODES

It is a regular way of constructing quantum error-correcting codes via codes with self-orthogonal property, and whether a classical Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) code is self-orthogonal can be determined by its designed distance. In this paper, we give the sufficient and necessary condition for arbitrary classical BCH codes with self-orthogonal property through algorithms. We also give a better upper bound of the designed distance of a classical narrow-sense BCH code which contains its Euclidean dual. Besides these, we also give one algorithm to compute the dimension of these codes. The complexity of all algorithms is analyzed. Then the results can be applied to construct a series of quantum BCH codes via the famous CSS constructions.

SERIALLY CONCATENATED CONTINUOUS PHASE MODULATION WITH REDUCED ITERATIVE DEMODULATION AND DETECTION

A reduced state Soft Input Soft Output (SISO) a posteriori probability algorithm for Seri-ally Concatenated Continuous Phase Modulation (SCCPM) is proposed in this paper. Based on the Reduced State Sequence Detection (RSSD),it has more general form compared with other reduced state SISO algorithms. The proposed algorithm can greatly reduce the state number,thus leads to the computation complexity reduction. It also minimizes the degradation in Euclidean distance with decision feedback in the reduced state trellis. Analysis and simulation results show that the perform-ance degradation is little with proper reduction scheme.

SIMPLE QUALITY ASSESSMENT FOR BINARY IMAGES

Usually image assessment methods could be classified into two categories: subjective as-sessments and objective ones. The latter are judged by the correlation coefficient with subjective quality measurement MOS (Mean Opinion Score). This paper presents an objective quality assessment algorithm special for binary images. In the algorithm, noise energy is measured by Euclidean distance between noises and signals and the structural effects caused by noise are described by Euler number change. The assessment on image quality is calculated quantitatively in terms of PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio). Our experiments show that the results of the algorithm are highly correlative with subjective MOS and the algorithm is more simple and computational saving than traditional objective assessment methods.

The Italic School in Astronomy： From Pythagoras to Archimedes

It is argued that it has not yet been able to value the historical, philosophical and epistemological travail, represented by the filth and fourth centuries BC of the ancient Greek world, which preceded the highest scientific heritage, represented by the so-called golden age of Euclid, Archimedes and Apollonius, Ⅲ-Ⅱ century BC. Well, it is believed that with our complex concept of tradition of thought within which we insert not only epistemological concepts but also philosophical principles, historical and social frameworks, in stasis or in strong movement, processed by us, it is possible better interpret that happy moment of scientific constructions of the third and second century BC, as a result of the valorization of the deep travail and serious battle that preceded it between the fourth and fifth century BC. It is investigated in particular in our paper the development of astronomical thought between the fifth and fourth centuries BC, in the ancient Greek thought, and at last a particular presumed criticism by Archimedes in his Sandreckoner to Aristarchus.

Some Important Correlations between Water Resources and Natural Ecosystems in Albania

Albania has a lot of water re,;ources including： seas, rivers, lakes, lagoons as well as underground waters. Albania has about 485 mm precipitation annual year, with the forms of rain and snow. Most precipitations descend from the rivers and flow into the Adriatic Sea. About 23% of underground waters are distributed in all country and used by people for different activities. There are also a lot of kinds of natural habitats and ecosystems, such as： Mediterranean shrubs, broadleaves forests, conifer forests, mixed forests, alpine and sub-alpine pasture ecosystems, meadows, rock area, marine ecosystems, coastal, lagoons and other wetland areas, lakes, rivers, but of course and agricultural area. All of them have good correlations between the vegetation and water resources. This correlation is more evident near the rivers, lakes, lagoons etc..

Integrated Water Resources Management for Pond in Bistrica E Pejes

In this century of crisis in water and energy the problem of water resources development is very crucial, especially in countries like Kosova with relatively scarce water resources. In this context the use of water for the production of hydro-energy is essential. Actually the energetic system of Kosova is based on thermo-energy, so the use of water resources for the production of hydro energy will increase further the energy production of the country. On the other hand, a master plan of multiple use of water resources, based on the principle of integrated and sustainable management, will insure better services for other users of the country. There are four basins in Kosovo： basin of the Drini i Bardhe River, basin of Ibar River, basin of Morava e Bing^s and Lepenci Rivers. The watershed of Bistrica e Pejes belongs to the basin of Drini i Bardhe, which belongs to the Adriatic Sea catchment. It has an admirable capacity therefore should be treated as a complex capacity, in which important economic components of water can be introduced such as： drinking water supply, water for irrigation in both sides of valley, fish economy and recreation, hydro-energy etc..

Rockfall Hazard Analyses and Rockfall Protection along the Adriatic Coast of Croatia

During the last decade, large rockfalls occurred on the steep limestone slopes along the Adriatic Coast of Croatia, causing injury to people and serious damage to buildings and traffic facilities. The rockfalls along the limestone slopes were caused by unfavorable characteristics of the rock mass, weathering in combination with heavy rainfall and artificial influences during highway construction. Rockfall protection projects were conducted to protect human lives and facilities from future rockfalls. The rockfall protection program started with rockfall hazard analyses to identify the potential of rockfalls to occur and the potential consequences. At the locations of hazards where related risks were determined, detailed field investigations were conducted. Based on the indentified characteristics of potentially unstable rock masses, analyses of movement and resulting pathways were conducted. The trajectories, impact energy and the height of bouncing are dependent on slope geometry, slope surface roughness and rockfall block characteristics. Two protection measure approaches were adopted： prevention of rockfalls by removing potentially unstable rock mass or installation of rock mass support systems and suspending running rockfall masses with rockfall protection barriers. In this paper, rockfall hazard determination, rockfall analyses and rockfall protection designs for rockfall protection systems at selected locations on the limestone slopes along the Adriatic coast of Croatia are presented.

Liquefaction Assessment in Golem Area, Albania, by Means of In-situ Tests

The liquefaction is a very significant phenomenon in clayey silty soils, silty sands and also sands. The high potential of liquefaction is generally recognized when these types of soils are laid under the hydrostatic water table. Low plasticity silts, silty sands and sands are found as recent alluvial deposits in the western coastal part of Albania, especially in the sandy beaches of Adriatic Sea near Durres City. The aim of this study is to evaluate the soil liquefaction potential in the area of Golem. Ten CPTUs （cone penetration test with pore pressure measurements） are carried out for the site investigation of soils. In this paper, results of the CPTU based liquefaction analysis are presented. The data of two CPTUs （10 in total） are analyzed and factor of safety was found by considering different levels of hazard and ground water. The results of liquefaction potential analysis show that the soils in the area of Golem have a high risk of liquefaction.

Does Procambarus Clarkii （Girard, 1852） Represent a Threat for Estuarine Brackish Ecosystems of Northeastern Adriatic Coast （Italy）？

The ongoing expansion of P. clarkii in the aquatic environments of northern Italy, where it is very common and abundant in most of the streams, lakes and reservoirs, led us to worry about the possibility of invasion into the estuarine and lagoonal brackish environments of the Adriatic coast, which is important not only for their peculiar fauna and flora and high biodiversity, but also for fishing and aquaculture. We carried out laboratory tests to investigate whether this species could live, moult and breed in water with different salinity levels. Several stocks of adult individuals, acclimated before the laboratory experiments, were maintained and monitored daily for a long period （100 days） in glass aquaria with water salinity varying from 5 to 33 ppt. They not only survived during the whole experiment period in levels up to 25 ppt, but also they regularly moulted and mated. These results confirmed that the species could invade the estuarine and brackish environments of the Adriatic coast, with all the implied consequences for the native species of both vertebrates and invertebrates and for human livelihoods.

Chlorophyll a and Trophic State in the Boka Kotorska Bay （Eastern Adriatic Sea）

The monthly changes in chlorophyll a, phytoplankton abundance and physicochemical parameters at two stations in Boka Kotorska Bay were investigated between 2003-2004. Nutrient salts varied widely, with maximum 3.65 μmol.L^-1 for nitrates and 0.23 μmol.L^-1 for phosphate. Chlorophyll a concentration ranged from 0.25 to 7.63 mg·m^3 and the highest value was measured in winter period of year. It seems that reason for this is the land-based nutrient input into the coastal area here. According to chlorophyll a, nitrates and phosphates concentrations, the area could be oligomesotrophic to mesotrophic during winter.

Effectiveness of Hypertension Therapy by Using Fixed Combinations and Monocomponent Drugs A Prospective Study from Croatia

Arterial hypertension is the leading risk mortality factor in the world according to the report by the World Health Organization. The aim of this research was to compare fixed-dose combination with free-drug combination therapy and prove that fixed-dose combination improve patient compliance and persistence, measuring blood pressure among hypertensive patients in a Croatian Adriatic city. Methods： The study included 202 patients, 101 women and 101 men, mean age 66.8 4- 9.4 with previous diagnosis of hypertension. Results： Mean blood pressure was 152.8 4- 18.8/87.3 4- 10.3 mmHg. Blood pressure control 140/90 mmHg） was achieved in 24.8% of patients, 13.9% of women and 10.9% of men. Mean blood pressure in the group with fixed-dose combination was 149.2 4- 17.9/86.2 4- 8.5 mmHg, and 156.7 4- 18.9/88.4 4- 11.8 mmHg in the group with free-drug combination therapy. Conclusions： Results suggest that blood pressure control was better in patients with fixed-dose combinations than in patients with free-drug combinations. Fixed-drug combination improved compliance and adherence in patients with antihypertensive therapy. Results of the study indicate that fixed-drug combination should be considered in patients with hypertension according to the guidelines.

Hardware Euclidean Distance Transform Implementation

Based on an efficient algorithm of Euclidean distance transform for binary images, a circuit of O(N2) size is proposed. With in-place calculation, both the intermediate data storing and the result output use the same memory with the input data. This reduces the amount of memory largely. By replacing multipliers with counters, comparators, and adders, the circuit size is further reduced and its calculation speed is improved also.

Let G be a weighted graph with adjacency matrix A=[aij]. An Euclidean graph associated with a molecule is defined by a weighted graph with adjacency matrix D=[dij], where for i≠j, dij is the Euclidean distance between the nuclei i and j. In this matrix dii can be taken as zero if all the nuclei are equivalent. Otherwise, one may introduce different weights for different nuclei. Balasubramanian (1995) computed the Euclidean graphs and their automorphism groups for benzene, eclipsed and staggered forms of ethane and eclipsed and staggered forms of ferrocene. This paper describes a simple method, by means of which it is possible to calculate the automorphism group of weighted graphs. We apply this method to compute the symmetry of tetraammine platinum(II) with C2v and C4v point groups.

An Addressing and Routing Scheme Based on Modified Euclidean Space for Hexagonal Networks

The addressing and routing algorithm on hexagonal networks is still an open problem so far.Although many related works have been done to resolve this problem to some extent,the properties of hexagonal networks are still not explored adequately.In this paper,we first create an oblique coordinate system and redefine the Euclidean space to address the hexagonal nodes.Then an optimal routing algorithm using vectors and angles of the redefined Euclidean space is developed.Compared with the traditional 3-directions scheme and the Cayley graph method,the proposed routing algorithm is more efficient and totally independent of the scale of networks with two-tuples addresses.We also prove that the path(s) obtained by this algorithm is always the shortest one(s).

The Microbiologic Water Pollution on Marine Ecosystems Velipoja Beach, Albania

Waters in marine ecosystems are likely contamination. The origin of pollution may be industrial, radioactive, agricultural, urban mikobiologjike etc.. The study was conducted in the waters of the Adriatic sea ecosystem aims to analyze the microbiological contamination areas. These waters are used for holiday purposes by citizens. The samplings of marine water are taken from the stratum water surface about 10 cm, at a distance 10-20 m by sea coast. These samples are examined in laboratory for determination of two micro organisms, indicators excrements pollution Faecal Coliform （FC） （ISO 9803） and FC, probably Streptococcus Faecal （FS） with Filtrate Membrane Method＇s in specific areas （ISO 7899-2）. In area Velipoja, Albania, the microbiologic elaborated analyses have resulted as follows： For FC and Streptococcus Faecal are given the minimal values FC-50, FS-50 and maximal values FC-90, FS-90 per 100 mL. About the evaluation of reaction （pH） is concluded that in Albania the sea waters coastal zones have a lightly alkaline ambient, where pH value is in the range 7.5-8.3, estimated according to recommended standards 6-9. No cases of red-tide algae development have been observed.

Texture Classification of 3D Surface Textures Via Directional Quincunx Lifting

This thesis presents a new approach to classify 3D surface textures by using lifting transform with quincunx subsampling. Feature vectors are generated from eight different lifting prediction directions. We classify 3D surface texture images based on minimum Euclidean distance between the test images and the training sets. The feasibility and effectiveness of our proposed approach can be validated by the experimental results.
