Compositions were determined for β phase using thin foil energy dispersive spectroscopy. Precipitation at 400 ℃ involves formation of platelet and block-shaped β phase. The orientation relationship is and between β precipitate phase and α-Mg matrix with habit planes parallel to , and a composition of Mg5(Y0.4Gd0.4Nd0.2) is suggested for the β phase in Mg-7Gd-5Y-1Nd-0.5Zr alloy.展开更多

The rupture behavior of agglomerates in WC powders was investigated. Meanwhile, the as-obtained WC powders treated by different milling methods were used to fabricate WC-10%Co cemented carbides, followed by the performance assessment of cemented carbides. The results show that the micro-strain of the jet-milled WC powders decreases significantly compared with that of the ball-milled WC powders, and that the cemented carbides prepared by jet-milled WC powders exhibit excellent properties with a transverse-rupture strength of 4260 MPa, due to the elimination of agglomerates and the reduction of lattice strain.展开更多

Torres, Macrozamia moorei F. Muell. ex C. Moore (Zamiaceae) were macerated and dissociated by Jeffrey's technique, rinsed with water, dehydrated and gold-plated for observation with scanning electron microscopes. The results showed that the pinna and rachis of the leaf tissues of the four cycad species possess many vessel elements and a few tracheid elements in the conducting tissue of the xylem. Annular, spiral, scalariform, pitted and reticulate vessels and some transitional types, including scalariform-pitted, scalariform-reticulate and reticulate-pitted vessels, were observed in the conducting tissues. The characteristics of the vessels of each species, and the evolutionary relation of four genera of cycads were analyzed. Compared with those of angiosperms, the structural characters of vessels of cycad are at the moderate level of evolution and more advanced than some primitive taxa of angiosperms and ferns. Vessels have been discovered in many genera of ferns, which are even more primitive than cycads. In many ferns, only vessel elements, but no tracheids are found in vascular tissue. In the present study, the authors discovered vessels in different genera of three families ofcycads which showed that the existence of vessels in primitive plant taxa is a widespread phenomenon. Vessel elements in vascular tissues of cycads have probably allowed cycads to adapt to various environmental stresses and enabled their persistence over their long evolutionary history. Cycads are the most primitive of the extant seed plants and the widespread existence of vessels in the group has broad implications for plant systematics, evolution and comparative morphology.展开更多

In this paper, based on Lu and Torquato's most nearest surface distribution function, a calculating process of volume fraction of ITZ is given in detail according to the actual sieve curve in concrete. Then, quantitative formulas are put forward to measure the influencing factors on the |TZ vol- ume fraction. In order to validate the given model, the volume fractions of ITZ obtained by numerical calculation are compared with those by computer simulation. The results show that the two are in good agreement. The order of the factors influencing the ITZ volume fraction is the ITZ thickness, the volume fraction of aggregate and the maximum aggregate diameter for Fuller gradation in turn. The 1TZ volume fraction obtained from the equal volume fraction (EVF) gradation is always larger than that from the Fuller gradation for a given volume fraction of aggregate.展开更多

In this paper, we take quartz sand for example to measure its micro-morphology and surface charge distribution using the phase mode of the electrical force microscope. Then the statistical relation of micro-morphology and surface charge distribution is obtained. Results show that quartz sand possesses complex surface morphology, which has great impact on the charge distribution. Positive and negative charges mostly concentrate on the saddle, convex and concave parts of the surface, while distribute less in the groove, ridge and flat parts. This experiment provides a new method for understanding the process of flocculation in coastal and estuarine zone.展开更多
