To evaluate the effect of components in Guanxin Ⅱ prescription on the pharmacokinetic profiles of paeoniflorin. Plasma concentration of Paeoniflorin in rats after intravenous injection of Paronia Pall Extract (PPE) and oral administration of PPE and three types of decoctions in Guanxin Ⅱ prescription, respectively, were determined by HPLC analyses. NONMEM (nonlinear mixed-effect modeling) method was used to analyze full set of pharmacokinetic data directly. A two-compartment model with first-order degradation in absorption compartment was employed for the data analysis. The mean of population parameters, CL1, V1, CL2, V2, Ka0, and Kal, were measured to be 0.509 L/h, 0.104 L, 0.113 L/h, 0.123 L, 0.135/h, and 0.0135/h, respectively. Inter-individual variabilities were estimated and dose formulation (DF) was identified as a significant covariate of Ka 1, Ka0, and V1. It is concluded that the pharmacokinetic behaviors of paeoniflorin in rats can alter with different dose formulations. 展开更多

Objective To assess the influence of mimic cardiac rate on hydrodynamics of different mechanical prosthetic cardiac valves. Methods US-made CarboMedics bileaflet valve, China-made Jiuling bileaflet valve and C-L tilting disc valve were tested via a pulsatile flow simulator in the aortic position. Testing conditions were set at mimic cardiac rates of 55 bpm, 75 bpm, 100 bpm with a constant mimic cardiac output of 4 L/min. The mean pressure differences (ΔP), leakage volumes (LEV) and closing volumes (CLV) across each valve, and effective orifice areas (EOA) were analyzed. Results Within physiological range, ΔP, LEV, and CLV decreased as mimic cardiac rate increased, with a large extent of variance. EOA increased along with an increase in mimic cardiac rate. It was a different response in terms of cardiac rate alteration for different types of mechanical prosthetic cardiac valves. Conclusion Mimic cardiac rate change affects hydrodynamics of mechanical prosthetic cardiac valves. Within physiological range, the hydrodynamic of prosthetic bileaflet valve is better than that of tilting disc valve. 展开更多

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare children's physical activity (PA) levels, self-efficacy, and enjoyment when experiencing dance-exergaming (Dance Dance Revolution, DDR) and aerobic dance in physical education. Methods: A total of 53 urban fourth grade children were divided into two groups, with one group playing DDR and the other group engaged in aerobic dance. After 15 min, the groups switched activities and continued their respective activities for another 15 min. Participants wore NL- 1000 pedometers in four consecutive sessions, and responded to a questionnaire measuring their self-efficacy and enjoyment toward two dance activities at the end of the first session. Results: Children spent more moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) time (p 〈 0.01, 72 = 0.49) in aerobic dance than DDR. Additionally, children reported significantly higher self-efficacy (p 〈 0.001, 72 = 0.28) and enjoyment (p 〈 0.01, η2 = 0.18) in DDR than in aerobic dance. Conclusion: Health care professionals and educators may not replace the traditional PAs and sports with interactive video games, but may use exergaming as an excellent addition to promote PA. The effects of different PU content and wall thickness on the longitudinal mechanical properties of vascular graft were investigated. The breaking elongation, breaking force, initial modulus and breaking work were studied. The results showed that the longitudinal mechanical properties of vascular graft were enhanced as the content of polyurethane increased, which resulted from the combination of PU excellent elasticity and fabric preferable strength. 展开更多

Physical literacy is a concept that is expected to encompass the mind and body in an integrated way to explain, promote, and help sustain human beings' fundamental function: movement. According to Whitehead(2010), physical literacy is defined by motivation, especially by competence-based and interest-based motivation. This point of view is consistent with vast amount of research evidence on children and adolescents' physical activity behavior. In the article I attempt to interpret and operationalize physical literacy from a perspective that children's motivation in physical education is both an innate mental disposition and an acquired/learned attribute. Particularly I rely on the conceptual learning theory and motivation regulation mechanisms of the self-determination theory to argue that in physical education, children should experience tasks that inspire them to embody competence and interest along with self-regulation strategies necessary for developing and sustaining the motivation to move. 展开更多

The high aerodynamic noise induced by automotive air conditioning systems has important effects on the ride comfort, and the centrifugal fan is the largest noise source in these systems. It is very important to reduce the aerodynamic noise generated by the centrifugal fan. The flow field and the sound field on the whole centrifugal fan configuration have been carried out using the computational fluid dynamics. Simulation results show that the sound pressure level near the outlet of the centrifugal fan is too high. Based on the relationship between flow characteristics and the aerodynamic noise, four parameters of the centrifugal fan, i.e., impeller blade's outlet angle 0, volute tongue's gap t, collector inclination angle fl, and rotating speed n, were selected as design variables and optimized using response surface methodology. While keeping the function of flow rate unchanged, the peak noise level is reduced by 8 dB or 10.8%. The noise level is satisfactorily reduced. 展开更多

The EOA was increasing with the increase of the mimic cardiac rate. It is a differe nt response as the altering of the cardiac rate for the different type of the me chanical prosthetic cardiac valves.Conclusions:The change of the mimic cardiac rate can affect the hydrodynamics of the mechanical prosthetic cardiac valves. Evidence for the long-term optical curve variability and colour behaviour of the BL Lac object Mkn 421 is presented. Our results show that the amplitude of the optical variations of Mkn 421 is only about △B=4.7 magnitude in the B-band for its photometric history from 1899 to 2002. The results of optical photometric monitoring of the Mkn 421 from April 2000 to Jan 2002 are provided. During our observation, Mkn 421 shows significant rapid variations and exhibits short time variability of 2.42 hours in the B band. A strong correlation between the B - V colour index and the magnitude in the B band is found. Our charge coupled device (CCD) photometry of Mkn 421 shows that the measured results are in good agreement with the predicted optical variability period of about 23 years. 展开更多

In order to improve the discharge capacity and cyclic life of Mg-Co-based alloy, ternary Mg45M5Co50 (M=Pd, Zr) alloys were synthesized via mechanical alloying. TEM analysis demonstrates that these alloys all possess body-centered cubic (BCC) phase in nano-crystalline. Electrochemical experiments show that Mg45Zr5Co50 electrode exhibits the highest capacity (425 mA·h/g) among the Mg45M5Co50 (M=Mg, Pd, Zr) alloys. And Mg45Pd5Co50 electrode lifts not only the initial discharge capacity (379 mA·h/g), but also the discharge kinetics, e.g., exchange current density and hydrogen diffusion ability from that of Mg50Co50. It could be concluded that the electrochemical performances were enhanced by substituting Zr and Pd for Mg in Mg-Co-based alloy. 展开更多

Background Submaximal oxygen uptake measures are more feasible and may better predict clinical cardiac outcomes than maximal tests in older adults with heart failure (HF). We examined relationships between maximal oxygen uptake, submaximal oxygen kinetics, fianctional mobility, and physical activity in older adults with HF and reduced ejection fraction. Methods Older adults with HF and reduced ejection fraction (n = 25, age 75 :i: 7 years) were compared to 25 healthy ageand gender-matched controls. Assessments included a maximal treadmill test for peak oxygen uptake (VO2p^ak), oxygen uptake kinetics at onset of and on recovery from a submaximal treadmill test, functional mobility testing [Get Up and Go (GUG), Comfortable Gait Speed (CGS), Unipedal Stance (US)], and self-reported physical activity (PA). Results Compared to controls, HF had worse performance on GUG, CGS, and US, greater delays in submaximal oxygen uptake kinetics, and lower PA. In controls, VO2peak was more strongly associated with functional mobility and PA than submaximal oxygen uptake kinetics. In HF patients, submaximal oxygen uptake kinetics were similarly associated with GUG and CGS as VO2peak, but weakly associated with PA. Conclusions Based on their mobility performance, older HF patients with reduced ejection fraction are at risk for adverse functional outcomes. In this population, submaximal oxygen uptake measures may be equivalent to VO2 peak in predicting functional mobility, and in addition to being more feasible, may provide better insight into how aerobic function relates to mobility in older adults with HF. 展开更多

Since India's philosophical discussion on the correlation between the mind and the body, the goal achieved through practice has been imbued with much meaning under the influences of yoga. Self-transcendence can be reached through self-discipline that is founded upon the fundamental change and potential for existential practice. The mind and the body do not comprise a binary relationship but instead maintain an intimate relationship bound by the medium of organic energy of breathing, breath, and pr^0a. Of these medium that form the relationship, the pr^-0a has a natural healing tendency, which has been well documented within classics such as Upani.sads and Bhagavad G^ta. Classic yoga explains that pr^0a imbues within it a vivacious passion and energy that will connect the human body with the human mind. Thus, the pr^0a functions as bio-energy. From ancient Indian philosophy to Buddhism, yoga therapy actively utilizes practice as a main element. In particular, the Patafijali yoga's methodology details the organic correlation within its eight limbs (支) yoga practices. The prana is breath. This is the only sense in which Patafijali has used this word. Breath is called prana because it moves on continuously throughout the body and reaches the basic circle of the individual self. It pervades mouth, nostrils, heart, navel region and toes. As a result, it is a healing method that achieves far more than the scientific healing methods common in society. 展开更多

"Emotion is a specific manner of apprehending the world" and transforming the world rather than an "accidental modification of a subject who is surrounded by an unchanged world," according to Jean-Paul Sartre. Both Sketch for a Theory of the Emotions and Being and Nothingness set out to investigate these relationships in broadly two ways. One, consciousness of the world of others is experienced through our emotions (anger, fear, shame, and pride for instance) as a body that escapes our grasp in being-seen-by-another. Two, we apprehend the world through our emotions in the process of magical transformation (for example, fear, melancholy, and sadness). This paper examines emotions on two levels: how we experience our ontological state as being-for-itself-in-itself and being-in-the-world-for-others; and how we conceive emotions as "magic" changing its relationship with the world "so that the world should change its qualities." What is of critical interest here is the relationship between consciousness and emotions. Situating this discussion in the context of Satre's critique on psychology, it proceeds to advance his existential psychoanalysis, starting with establishing a place for emotions and concluding with its transformative power to escape their situations. 展开更多

Conventional model tests and centrifuge tests are frequently used to investigate seepage erosion. However, the centrifugal test method may not be efficient according to the results of hydraulic conductivity tests and piping erosion tests. The reason why seepage deformation in model tests may deviate from similarity was first discussed in this work. Then, the similarity criterion for seepage deformation in porous media was improved based on the extended Darcy-Brinkman-Forchheimer equation. Finally, the coupled particle flow code–computational fluid dynamics(PFC-CFD) model at the mesoscopic level was proposed to verify the derived similarity criterion. The proposed model maximizes its potential to simulate seepage erosion via the discrete element method and satisfy the similarity criterion by adjusting particle size. The numerical simulations achieved identical results with the prototype, thus indicating that the PFC-CFD model that satisfies the improved similarity criterion can accurately reproduce the processes of seepage erosion at the mesoscopic level. 展开更多

Centroidal Voronoi tessellations(CVTs) have become a useful tool in many applications ranging from geometric modeling,image and data analysis,and numerical partial differential equations,to problems in physics,astrophysics,chemistry,and biology. In this paper,we briefly review the CVT concept and a few of its generalizations and well-known properties.We then present an overview of recent advances in both mathematical and computational studies and in practical applications of CVTs.Whenever possible,we point out some outstanding issues that still need investigating. 展开更多

Social media has become an inevitable part of our lives in the age of network society. People establish multiple identities for themselves, with or without references to the real world, and behave according to those identities. Self-made components of virtual presence are not limited to identities only; many users also create hyper-personalities for themselves with the help of new technologies. Then, the fundamental question becomes: Why do people create self-made identities and hyper-personalities to portray or hide themselves in social media environments? The answer to this question has certain connections and implications for behaviors of social media users. Therefore, researchers have investigated why some people find social media attractive and attend whenever possible, while others are afraid of social media and hesitate to attend. Positive and negative behaviors of social media users can be classified as braggadocian and preventative. Braggadocian behaviors are related to courageously taking advantage of social media, whereas preventative behaviors are concerned with avoidance of social media. The dominant behavioral pattern of a user depends on what one can achieve through attending or preventing social media. This paper first discusses basic elements of human behavior that drive social media such as altruism, hedonism, connectionism, homophily, multiple identities, memetics, narcissism, and tribalism. Then, it focuses on precautionary elements of human behavior such as avoidance, escape, blocking, fear, hiding, removal, and protectionism. Whether they are attentive or not, one thing is clear: People refrain or enrich their own lives in social media rather than being abused or watching others in industrial media. 展开更多
