Study of the Psychological Problems of College Students

Comparative Study on Egyptian Nuclear Research Centers

This paper aims to study the architectural design and planning of the Egyptian nuclear research centers. Three Egyptian nuclear research centers and the proposed nuclear research center have been studied. These centers are the Nuclear Research Center in Inshas, the Hot laboratories and Waste Management Center in Inshas, the National Center for Radiation Research and Technology in Nasr City and the proposed Nuclear Research Center in North Western Coast of Egypt. Also, the paper aims to study the functions of these centers, as well as the types of their existing facilities. The paper investigates the principles and standards used in design and planning of these nuclear research centers. A comparative study has been conducted to those four nuclear research centers to evaluate the centers according to the site characteristics and the basic safety factors. The results were compared to determine the best design and planning. The proposed Nuclear Research Center in North Western Coast of Egypt proved to be the best among all with regard to design and planning, taking into consideration the radiation safety requirements. The architects are recommended to design and plan the nuclear research centers, taking into consideration the radial planning concept because it is the best with regard to radiation safety requirements.

The Seasickness as Marine Problem-Case Study

Motion sickness is one of the main reasons why travelling by sea becomes a bad memory for a number of people, mainly due to a nauseating symptom. The aim of this paper is to characterize a condition called seasickness that has affected many people from a mathematical and psychological point of view. Based on the mathematical characterization, an existing model will be reviewed and described. In the psychological aspects, a statistical study of two hundred and thirteen people was performed in order to provide a comprehensive view of the different psychological factors affecting the passengers. Motion sickness also impacts onboard safety, as it reduces the effectiveness and the operating capability of the crew when responding to hazardous situations.

Design and Application of XL-1 Psychological Quality Assessment Device

Objective: Through the application of the physiological indicator of heart rate variability by some equipments, to assess the psychological quality objectively, quickly and accurately instead of subjectively in the current methods of the assessment. Methods: Apply the new psychological assessment system to collect the signal of heart rate variability which will be converted to waveforms in time-domain and frequency-domain to analyze people's psychological state. Results: According to heart rate variability parameters in the time domain and frequency domain, we can analyze the autonomic nervous system functions objectively and accurately, then assess mental state. Conclusion: Heart rate variability plays an important role in the psychological assessment system, which has broad prospects for the future development.

Effect of tetrandrine on cellular electrophysiology and calcium uptake of myocardium in guinea pigs and dogs

Objective To study the effects of tetrandrine, a Chinese herbal medicine, on the action potential (AP),contraction as well as sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) calcium uptake of myocardium in guinea-pigs and dogs.Methods Changes in AP, dV/dt, peak tension (PT) and dT/dt of myocardial cells were studied using the technique of glass electrode. Changes of the calcium uptake rate by sarcoplasmic reticulum and release of inorganic phosphate from sarcoplasmic reticulum were assessed with biochemical techniques.Results Tetrandrine exerts a concentration-dependent and frequency-dependent negative inotropic effect and shortens action potential duration. Tetrandrine depresses both dT(E)/dt and dT(L)/dt as well as the tension of myocardium, and reduces dV/dt and amplitude only in the slow action potential, thus implying that tetrandrine blocks the slow calcium channel. In addition, compared with thapsigargin, a specific inhibitor of Ca2+-ATPase on SR, tetrandrine more apparently suppresses the contraction of the myocardium.Conclusions Tetrandrine is a wide-range calcium antagonist of plant origin. Not only it blocks the voltageoperated calcium channels as other authors reported, but also may play an important role in affecting the function of Ca2+ -ATPase and calcium release channels on SR. From this study, we also suggest that the calcium channel appears to be more critical than SR for the contraction of my ocardium.
