The microstructure, corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of the coated alloy were investigated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to examine the microstructure and the composition of the coated alloy. The corrosion resistance was studied by means of potentiodynamic polarization method and the biocompatibility of the surface modified WE43 alloy was evaluated by (3-(4,5)-Dimethylthiazol-2, yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and hemolysis test. The results show that the phosphating coating can enhance the corrosion resistance of WE43 alloy and can be a good candidate to increase the biocompatibility of WE43 alloy.展开更多

The transformation temperatures of the alloy can be adjusted effectively by heat treatment. Dense and stable SiO2 coatings were deposited on the surface of the pre-oxidized TiNi alloy by sol?gel method. The bonding strength of films and matrix was (65.9±1.5) N. The electrochemical corrosion test shows that the TiNi alloy with SiO2 coating has excellent corrosion resistance in the Hank’s simulated body fluid. The release behaviors of Ni ion of the alloy with and without SiO2 coating implanted in the acoustic vesicle of guinea pig were studied by EDS testing, which was inhibited effectively by the dense and stable SiO2 coating on the alloy.展开更多

The experimental results demonstrate that the addition of LMB glass effectively lowers the sintering temperature of Li2MgTi3O8 ceramic from 1025 ℃ to 875 ℃ and induces no obvious degradation of the microwave dielectric properties. Typically, the 1.5%LMB glass-added Li2MgTi3O8 ceramic sintered at 875 ℃ for 4 h shows excellent microwave dielectric properties of Q×f=45403 GHz, εr=25.9 and τf≈0 ℃-1. The dielectric ceramic exhibits stability against the reaction with the Ag electrode, which indicates that the ceramics could be applied in multilayer microwave devices requiring low firing temperatures.展开更多

The nano HAP coating on Mg-2Zn scaffolds was prepared by the pulse electrodeposition method. The as-deposited scaffolds were then post-treated with alkaline solution to improve the biodegradation behavior and biocompatibility for implant applications. The microstructure and composition of scaffold and nano HAP coating, as well as their degradation and cytotoxicity behavior in simulated body fluid(SBF) were investigated. The post-treated coating is composed of needle-like HAP with the diameter less than 100 nm developed almost perpendicularly to the substrate, which exhibits a similar composition to natural bone. It is found that the products of immersion in SBF are identified to be HAP,(Ca,Mg)3(PO4)2 and Mg(OH)2. The bioactivity, biocompatibility and cell viabilities for the as-coated and post-treated scaffold extracts are higher than those for the uncoated scaffold. MG63 cells are found to adhere and proliferate on the surface of the as-coated and post-treated scaffolds, making it a promising choice for medical application. The results show that the pulse electrodeposition of nano HAP coating and alkaline treatment is a useful approach to improve the biodegradability and bioactivity of porous Mg-Zn scaffolds.展开更多

In this study, poly (ether sulfone) (PES) support layer was first hydrophilically modified with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) via surface segregation during the phase inversion process. Gelatin (GE) was then cast on the PVA-modified PES support layer as the active layer followed by crosslinking to fabricate composite membranes for ethanol dehydration. The enrichment of PVA on the surface of support layer improved interfacial compatibility of the as-prepared GE/PVA-PES composite membrane. The water contact angle measurement and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) data confirmed the surface segregation of PVA with a surface coverage density of -80%. T-peel test showed that the maxima/force to separate the support layer and the active layer was enhanced by 3 times compared with the GE/PES membrane. The effects of PVA content in the support layer, crosslinking of GE active layer and operating parameters on the pervaporative dehydration performance were investigated. The operational stability of the composite membrane was tested by immersing the membrane in ethanol aqueous solution for a period of time. Stable pervaporation performance for dehydration of 90% ethanol solution was obtained for GE/PVA-PES membrane with a separation factor of -60 and a permeation flux of -1910 g.m^-2.h1 without peeling over 28 days immersion.展开更多
