A calculation approach of urban flesh water consumption was presented based on the theory of urban basic material consumption and the input-output method, which was utilized to calculate urban fresh water consumption of China, and to analyze its structural change and causes. The results show that the total urban flesh water consumption increased 561.7× 10^9m^3, and the proportion to the total national flesh water resources increased by 20 percentage points from 1952 to 2005. The proportion of direct and induced water consumption had been continuously rising, and it increased by 15 and 35 percentage points separately from 1952 to 2005, while the proportion of indirect water consumption decreased by 50 percentage points. Urban indi- rect water consumption was mainly related to urban grain, beef and mutton consumption, and urban induced water consumption had a close relationship with the amount of carbon emission per capita. Finally, some countermeasures were put forward to realize sustainable utilization of urban fresh water resources in China.展开更多

A completely randomexperimental design with three replications was employed, having four soil management practices astreatments, namely: an undisturbed plow layer (CK), a thin plastic film (TN), a thick plastic film(TI) and subsoil compacting (CP). Results indicated no significant differences among all treatmentsfor rice biomass and grain yields. Also, water consumption was about the same for treatments TN andCK, however the treatments TI and CP were much lower with more than 45% and 40% of the irrigationwater in the treatments TI and CP, respectively, saved each year compared to CK. Therefore, wateruse efficiency was higher in the treatments TI and CP. These results will provide a scientific basisfor the water-saving rice cultivation.展开更多

The raw water and the capacity of wastewater reuse were determined according to the wastewater characteristic of a university; the treatment process was chosen by building a cost-benefit model; and the modeling test was performed about the operation effect of the proposed project and the recommended water quality of reclaimed water. It is estimated that 3.4×10^5 m^3/a tap water and 6.1×10^5 Yuan/a will be saved if the project was put into operation and the proposed project will reduce the total quantity of pollutant efficiently and bring lots of social and economic benefits.展开更多
