Dual Pressure versus Hybrid Recuperation in an Integrated Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Cycle--Steam Cycle

A burner was used to combust the rema... A SOFC (solid oxide fuel cell) cycle running on natural gas was integrated with a ST (steam turbine) cycle. The fuel is desulfurized and pre-reformed before entering the SOFC. A burner was used to combust the remaining fuel after the SOFC stacks. The off-gases from the burner were used to produce steam in a HRSG (heat recovery steam generator). The bottoming steam cycle was modeled with two configurations: (1) a simple single pressure level and (2) a dual pressure level with both a reheat and a pre-heater. The SOFC stacks in the present SOFC-ST hybrid cycles were not pressurized. The dual pressure configuration steam cycle combined with SOFC cycle (SOFC-ST) was new and has not been studied previously. In each of the configuration, a hybrid recuperator was used to recovery the remaining energy of the off-gases after the HRSG. Thus, four different plants system setups were compared to each other to reveal the most superior concept with respect to plant efficiency and power. It was found that in order to increase the plant efficiency considerably, it was enough to use a single pressure with a hybrid recuperator instead of a dual pressure Rankine cycle. 展开更多

Simulation of Sloshing Phenomena Using ALE Approach

Sloshing has a widespread application in many industries including automotive, aerospace, ship building and motorcycle manufacturing. The goals of sloshing simulation is to first study the sloshing pattern and then improve the tank design to reduce noise levels, stresses on the structure and optimize the baffle arrangements. In this project simulation of the fluid in tank is studied and the design modification with baffle plate is considered to minimize the sloshing phenomena using Arbitrary Langrangian Eulerian (ALE) method. Also it is explained that there is need to analyze the sloshing phenomena in detail. Arbitrary Langrangian Eulerian finite element methods gain interest for the capability to control mesh geometry independently from material geometry, the ALE methods are used to create a new undistorted mesh for the fluid domain. In this paper we use the ALE technique to solve fuel slosh problem. Fuel slosh is an important design consideration not only for the fuel tank, but also for the structure supporting the fuel tank. Fuel slosh can be generated by many ways: abrupt changes in acceleration (braking), as well as abrupt changes in direction (highway exit-ramp). Repetitive motion can also be involved if a sloshing resonance is generated. These sloshing events can in turn affect the overall performance 0fthe parent structure. A finite element analysis method has been developed to analyze this complex event. A new ALE formulation for the fluid mesh can be used to keep the fluid mesh integrity during the motion of the tank. It is shown that there exists a critical number pc = N+2 such that the source-type solution to the above problem exists and is unique if 0 N n 〈 pc and there exists a unique similarity source-type solution in the case n = N+1 , while such a solution does not exist N if n 〉 pc. Moreover, the asymptotic behavior of the solution near the origin is studied. It is shown that when 0 〈 n 〈 N+1 the convection is too weak and the short time behavior of the source-type solution near the origin N is the same as that for the heat equation without convection. 展开更多

In this paper, the silver nanoparticle ink and ink-jet printing technology are used to manufacture the surface acoustic wave(SAW) filters. The characteristics of three common substrate piezoelectric materials of ST-quartz, Y36°-LiTaO3 and Y128°-LiNbO3 are evaluated. The experimental results show that Y128°-LiNbO3 matches the ink much better than others. The printed SAW filter with Y128°-LiNbO3 as piezoelectric substrate is realized, and its center frequency and bandwidth are 18.4 MHz and 500 kHz, respectively. 展开更多

Before treatment, a Chinese medical con... Objective: To observe the effect of acupuncture for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods: A total of 36 cases were recruited in this study. Before treatment, a Chinese medical constitution survey was conducted on these children. Based on the survey findings, the children were divided in different groups for acupuncture intervention. Additionally, the heart rate variability and attention were detected respectively before treatment, in the 12th and 24th week after treatment. Results: ADHD kids commonly manifest as a body constitution of yang predominance and heat exuberance. The kids' Body Mass Indexes (BMI) are moderately correlated with attention deficit disorder (ADD). After the treatment of 24 weeks, the ADHD scores were reduced from (10.94±1.98) to (8.56±2.48), showing a statistical significance (P〈0.05); in addition, the low frequency/high frequency (LF/HF) and normalized low frequency (nLF) between the two groups were also statistically different (P〈0.05). Conclusion: Most ADHD kids present with a body constitution of yang predominance and heat exuberance. A well-controlled BMI is helpful for ADHD treatment. Acupuncture can be a supplementary therapy to improve the ADHD symptoms. 展开更多
