Group testing is a method that can be used to estimate the prevalence of rare infectious diseases,which can effectively save time and reduce costs compared to the method of random sampling.However,previous literature only demonstrated the optimality of group testing strategy while estimating prevalence under some strong assumptions.This article weakens the assumption of misclassification rate in the previous literature,considers the misclassification rate of the infected samples as a differentiable function of the pool size,and explores some optimal properties of group testing for estimating prevalence in the presence of differential misclassification conforming to this assumption.This article theoretically demonstrates that the group testing strategy performs better than the sample by sample procedure in estimating disease prevalence when the total number of sample pools is given or the size of the test population is determined.Numerical simulation experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of group tests in estimating prevalence in the presence of dilution effect. 展开更多

[Objective] The aim was to study the antialgal activities of allelochemical extracts from three terrestrial plant species.[Method] The allelochemicals were extracted from the leaves of Magnolia grandiflora,Sophora japonica f.pendula and Buxus sinica (Rehd.et Wils.) Cheng by alcohol extraction,n-hexane,ethyl acetate and n-utanol phase.Furthermore antialgal activities of all components were determined.[Result] The active substances of M.grandiflora mainly existed in n-hexane and n-butanol phases.The active substances of S.japonica mainly existed in n-hexane phase,while the active substances of B.sinica mainly existed in ethyl acetate and aqueous phase.All the active substances showed significant antialgal activity (50% inhibition) after culture for 1 d except aqueous phase of B.sinica.In addition,inhibition rates of the tested phases increased with the increasing of culture duration and testing concentrations.The inhibition rates were over 90% against the growth of M.aeruginosa after culture for 7 d.The n-hexane and n-butanol phases of M.grandiflora exhibited the best antialgal activity,over 96% inhibition rate at the concentration of 25 μg/ml,which was significantly higher than those of the other components,furthermore it could cause shrinkage and obvious surface inanition of Microcystis aeruginosa.[Conclusion] The n-hexane and n-butanol phases of M.grandiflora have the best inhibition activities on the growth of Microcystis aeruginosa,so they are worthy of further study. 展开更多

Results: AS PS-ODN could signi?cantly inhibit telomerase activity by down regulat- ing the hTERT expression, and increase the susceptibility of leukemic cells to CDDP-induced apoptosis. The effect of homogenization time on quench sensitivity of a cast 7085 aluminum alloy was investigated by means of end-quenching test, optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results show that with the increase of homogenization time from 48 h to 384 h, quench sensitivity increased slightly as the largest difference in the hardness was increased from 5.2% to 6.9% in the end-quenched and aged specimens. Prolonging homogenization had little effect on the grain structure, but improved the dissolution of soluble T phase and resulted in larger Al3Zr dispersoids with a low number density. Some small quench-induced η phase particles on Al3Zr dispersoids were observed inside grains during slow quenching, which decreased hardness after subsequent aging. The change in the character of Al3Zr dispersoids exerted slight influence on quench sensitivity. 展开更多

Sensitivity evaluation of rocky desertification is to recognize the areas prone to be rock-deserted,so as to assess the sensitivity degree of rocky desertification to human activities.To perform the sensitivity evaluation of rocky desertification,we should be on the basis of the mechanism of rocky desertification formation for analyzing its regional distribution difference in the sensitivity and further for finding out the rocky desertification-susceptive areas and their possible degrees.Employing remote sensing and geological information system techniques,we regarded the 1∶ 50 000 topographic map and the TM image in 2000 of Guizhou Province,together with the hydrologic map,soil map,geologic map,rock formation map,administrative map and other geological information as data sources to generate the degree data of rocky desertification sensitivity of Guizhou Province in 1962 and 2000,based on which we determined the corresponding degree transfer matrix and adopted Markov model to simulate the dynamic change process of rocky desertification sensitivity and its future evolution trend.In various sensitivity types of rocky desertification in Guizhou Province,only the insensitive type showed a declined acreage,from the proportion of total land acreage of 61.35% in 1962 to 55.55% in 2000.Various sensitivity types inter-conversed,resultantly the acreage of mildly sensitive type increased most.The prediction results showed that the acreage of insensitive type of rocky desertification in Guizhou Province will assume a remarkable decline trend,of mildly sensitive type will present a remarkably increasing trend and of slightly sensitive type basically will maintain a stable level in the future tens of years.Acreages of both highly sensitive and extremely sensitive type of rocky desertification expanded to some extent,suggesting that the rocky desertification risk in Guizhou Province is in an aggravating process. 展开更多

The received signal of the polarization sensitive array is proved to have trilinear model characteristics. The blind parallel factor(PARAFAC) signal detection algorithm for the polarization sensitive array is proposed. The trilinear alternating least square (TALS) algorithm is used to abtain the source matrix, and then the matrix is judged. Simulation results show that the bit error rate (BER) of the detection algorithm is close to that of the non-blind decorrelating method and the algorithm works well under the array error condition. BER difference between the non-blind method and this algorithm is less than 2 dB under a high SNR. The algorithm is blind and robust. The channel fading, the direction of arrive(DOA) imformation and the polarization information are needless in the algorithm. 展开更多

Objective: To study the expression of NFκB family protein in breast cancer cell lines and the relationship between NFκB family protein and the drug resistance.Methods: Expression of P65, IκB-α in 14 breast cancer cell lines and P50 in 11 breast cancer cell lines was detected by Western blot. The sensitivity of the cells to ADM was determined by MTT.Results: 1κB-α located mainly in the cytoplasm. P65 and P50 were in both of cytoplasm and nucleus. The expression level of P50 was higher than that of P65, especially in nucleus. MTT assay showed that IC50 was three-fold higher in the cell lines which expressed P50 in nucleus than those P50 negative in nucleus, but no difference was found in the expression of P65.Conclusion: The expression of P50 in nucleus may predict the chemotherapy resistance in breast cancer, so it can be used as an indicator to predict the prognosis. The expression of P50 is more often in breast cancer, and it may play a more important role in the chemotherapy resistance than other NFκB family members. Graphite-like C3N4 (g-C3N4) is an efficient visible-light-driven photocatalyst which is com- monly used in pollutant degradation. The photoreactivity of g-C3N4 depends on the prepa- ration conditions to a large extent. In this work, we linked the preparation conditions of g-C3N4 to its stability and photocatalytic activity through dye photodegradation experiments and sensitivity mathematical analyses. The sensitivity mathematical analyses show that the effect of calcination temperature is more significant than calcination time on the photoreactivity of g-C3N4. The photocatalytic activity of optimized g-C3N4 in rhodamine B (RhB) degradation under visible light was 100 times higher than that of non-optimized one. The enhanced performance can be attributed to the increased specific surface area of g-C3N4 and the increased migration velocity of photogenerated electron-hole pairs on the surface. This work deepens the understanding of the relation between preparation conditions and the charateristics of g-C3N4, and provides an extremely simple method for significantly improving the photoreactivity of g-C3N4. 展开更多

AIM: To evaluate the significance of BNIP3 in the pathogenesis of pancreatic cancer, we analyzed the relationship between the expression of BNIP3 and survival rate of the patients with pancreatic cancer, or chemosensitivities in pancreatic cancer cell lines, particularly for gemcitabine, the first-line anti-tumor drug for pancreatic cancer. METHODS: To compare the expression level of BNIP3 with the resistance to gemcitabine, eight pancreatic cancer cell lines were subjected to gemcitabine treatment and the quantitative real-time RT-PCR method was used to evaluate BNIP3 expression. Immunohistochemical analysis was also performed using 22 pancreatic cancer specimens to study relationship between BNIP3 expression and survival rate. RESULTS: Although no significantly positive association between BNIP3 mRNA level and gemcitabine chemosensitivity was observed, pancreatic cancer cell lines that were sensitive to gemcitabine treatment tended to show high levels of BNIP3 expression. The converse, an absence of BNIP3 expression, was not correlated with gemcitabine resistance. We further compared the BNIP3 expression profiles of resected primary pancreaticcancer specimens with the prognosis of the patients, and found a tendency of favorable prognosis and low BNIP3 expression. CONCLUSION: High levels of BNIP3 expression cannot be used as one of the predicting factors for gemcitabine chemosensitivity, and some yet to be known factors will have to fill the gap for the accurate prediction of pancreatic cancer chemosensitivity to gemcitabine. However, BNIP3 expression may have an impact on prediction of prognosis of patients with pancreatic cancer. 展开更多

Five temperature gradients (24, 27, 30, 33 and 36 ℃ in artificial climate chamber) and the natural temperature (as control) were treated to the four sterile lines for 6 d in the fertility sensitive period of heading to flowering stage, respectively, to study the effects of temperature on physiological biochemical characteristics of young panicles and outcrossing characteristics. The results showed that the percentages of exerted stigma of Peiai 64S and Y58S were the highest at 27 ℃, which were 86.81% and 86.06%, respectively, while the percentages of exerted stigma of Guangzhan 63-2S and H638S were the highest at 24 ℃, which were 76.24% and 81.76%, respectively; the stigma viability of Peiai 64S, Y58S, Guangzhan 63-2S and H638S were the best at 24 ℃, which were 1.96, 2.12, 1.74 and 1.94, respectively; the outcrossing rates of Peiai 64S, Guangzhan 63-2S and H638S were the highest at 24 ℃, which were 58.87%, 54.22% and 50.50%, respectively, while the outcrossing rate of Y58S was the highest at 27 ℃, which was 58.96%; and the contents of peroxidase (POD) of the four sterile lines increased significantly at 33 ℃ compared with the control, while the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) and proline increased significantly at 36 ℃ compared with the control. There were differences in temperature sensitivity between the male sterile lines, and the 24 ℃ treatment during the sensitive period was the best for the fertility sensitive period of Peiai 64S, while 27 ℃ was the best temperature for Y58S, Gangzhan 63-2S and H638S. 展开更多

AIM: To investigate the relationship between the -765G 〉 C COX-2 polymorphism and the development of different gastric lesions: atrophy or intestinal metaplasia and gastric adenocarcinoma. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was performed involving 320 Portuguese individuals (210 without evidence of neoplastic disease, 73 patients with gastric adenocarcinomas and 37 with atrophy or intestinal metaplasia) using a PCR-RFLP method.RESULTS: -765C allele was overrepresented in the patients with gastric adenocarcinoma (51%) when compared either with the control group (38%) or patients with atrophy or intestinal metaplasia (27%). Callele was found to be very common in our population (0.22), and a multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed nearly 3-fold increased risk for the progression to gastric adenocarcinoma in patients with atrophy or intestinal metaplasia carrying the -765C allele (OR = 2.67, 95% CI = 1.03-6.93; P = 0.04).CONCLUSION: -765C carrier status should be considered as another susceptibility marker for gastric adenocarcinoma development in patients with atrophy or intestinal metaplasia. 展开更多

AIM: To investigate potential antitumor effects of rAd-p53 by determining if it enhanced sensitivity of gastric cancer cells to chemotherapy. METHODS: Three gastric cancer cell lines with distinct levels of differentiation were treated with various doses of rAd-p53 alone, oxaliplatin (OXA) alone, or a combination of both. Cell growth was assessed with an 3-(4,5)-dimethylthiahiazo (-z-yl)-3,5-diphenytetrazoli- umromide assay and the expression levels of p53, Bax and Bcl-2 were determined by immunohistochemistry. The presence of apoptosis and the expression of caspase-3 were determined using flow cytometry. RESULTS: Treatment with rAd-p53 or OXA alone inhibited gastric cancer cell growth in a time- and dose- dependent manner; moreover, significant synergistic effects were observed when these treatments were combined. Immunohistochemical analysis demonstrated that treatment with rAd-p53 alone, OXA alone or combined treatment led to decreased Bcl-2 expression and increased Bax expression in gastric cancer cells.Furthermore, flow cytometry showed that rAd-p53 alone, OXA alone or combination treatment induced apoptosis of gastric cancer cells, which was accompa- nied by increased expression of caspase-3. CONCLUSION: rAd-p53 enhances the sensitivity of gastric cancer cells to chemotherapy by promoting apoptosis. Thus, our results suggest that p53 gene therapy combined with chemotherapy represents a novel avenue for gastric cancer treatment. 展开更多
