Identifying the vulnerable areas to pollution is one way of prevention. Many models have been offered for this purpose. In this study, a numerical rating scheme, called DRASTIC has been used for evaluating potential for groundwater pollution in pelly-mianrudan plain that is located in northern Lalli city in Khuzestan province. Resulted map obtained in GIS environment shows that the study area has DRASTIC index of 71-150 that is divided to five vulnerable zones namely no significance, very low, low, low to moderate, moderate to high. Maximum groundwater vulnerability correspondent low to medium zone that approximately covers 45 percentage of the study area and other parts on the northwest and center of the study area has high vulnerability. The sensitivity analysis showed that correlation DRASTIC index with net Recharge (0.68) and Impact of vadose zone media (0.63) parameters is more than other parameters in the study pelly-mianrudan area. The statistical analysis confirms that parameter soil media and topography are the most sensitive to contamination, followed in importance by parameters aquifer medium, vadose zone, recharge, hydraulic conductivity and depth to water.展开更多

To achieve this, time domain IP (induced polarization) and SP (self-potential) methods were adopted using VES (vertical electrical sounding) technique with 49 stations sounded. The result of the interpreted and analyzed measured data shows that the area is underlain by two to five subsurface layers. These layers are top soil, laterite, weathered basement complex rocks, fractured basement complex rocks and fresh basement complex rocks. The aquiferous zone of the study area occurs in the weathered and fractured basements and its thickness ranges from 1.44 m to 70.157 m while the overburden thickness lies between 1.6 m and 72.104 m. SP values were plotted against depths of investigation in order to identify areas with greater depth of flow in the study area. From the analysis of the overburden thickness, aquifer thickness and SP values, the most favorable regions for groundwater exploitation were found around VES 6, 11, 13, 19, 26, 38, 44 and 48. The investigation also provides information about the subsurface condition with regards to engineering construction and safe place for refuse dumping in order to avoid groundwater contamination.展开更多

The MDSvarext method incorporates the objects' confidence regions in this analysis, allowing for statistical inference in the difference between objects, but the confidence regions that are generated are very large because of the inherent variability among the evaluators. One solution to this problem is cluster generation prior to the application of the MDSvarext method in order to obtain homogeneous subgroups and to achieve greater control of the variance. This work is relevant to studies of perception which usually evaluate the difference between objects or stimuli in the point of view of different people that judge this difference using several dimensions. This study investigated the possibility of using a K-means algorithm to generate subgroups before the MDSvarext method was applied, evaluating the process with two quality indicators, one Ex-Ante and one Ex-Post. The experiments were conducted based on simulation of judgment matrix of different objects in multiple dimensions being evaluated by several judges. In this experiment, the matrix used was a 10 objects, in 10 features, judged by 10 people. The results are promising as possible interpretations of the perceptual map and the indicators generated.展开更多

After a short description of the approach, the study presents the sensitivity study of the method to the selected structural parameters by considering incremental deviation of the final scores from the base model. Further, the methodology was applied to an additional 100 damaged buildings in order to check the reliability of the method and some necessary modifications have been applied to the algorithm after considering this larger database. The evaluation of the results has been interpreted as a beneficial guidance for local authorities. The risk bands are defined according to the final scores and the effect of changing the band-width has also been studied through a safe but an economical procedure. A satisfactory correlation of the method with real damage states is obtained and a ready-to-use methodology has been introduced for future studies.展开更多

With the data of damage information extracted from the high-resolution aerial images in the earthquake-stricken areas( Jiegu town,Yushu city,Qinghai) of the 2010 MS7. 1 Yushu earthquake, and the data obtained through post-earthquake field investigation, the seismic damage degree and seismic intensity have been estimated. The analysis of the results shows that the seismic intensity in Yushu city is estimated as IX through the RS assessment method, which is consistent with the result estimated according to the ground surveys. The results are discussed in the last part of the paper and indicate that the RS techniques are expected to be one of the main methods used to estimate the seismic intensity values in the emergency stage.展开更多

They present the fraction of planning target volume (PTV) receiving more than a given absorbed dose, against the absorbed dose values, and a number of radiobiological indices can be computed with their help. Equivalent uniform dose (EUD) is the absorbed dose that, uniformly imparted, would yield the same biological effect on a tumor as the dose distribution described by the DVH. Uncertainty and missing information can affect the dose distribution, therefore DVHs can be modeled as samples from a set of possible outcomes. This work studies the sensitivity of the EUD index when a small change in absorbed dose distribution takes place. EUD is treated as a functional on the set of DVHs. Defining a Levy distance on this set and using a suitable expansion of the functional, a very simple expression for a bound on the variation of EUD when the dose distribution changes is found. This bound is easily interpreted in terms of standard treatment planning practice.展开更多
