Objective: To improve the recognition and diagnosis on the bronchopulmonary infection with Lophomonas blattarum (L. blattarum). Methods: The clinical characteristics of 2 patients diagnosed and treated in our hosp...Objective: To improve the recognition and diagnosis on the bronchopulmonary infection with Lophomonas blattarum (L. blattarum). Methods: The clinical characteristics of 2 patients diagnosed and treated in our hospital were reported, and 42 cases that had been reported from years 1993 to 2007 are analyzed. Results: In our report, the first patient attacked serious asthma time after time, the second patient suffered from bronchiectasis with a protracted infection course. Forty-four cases all have pathogen examination and parasitic expertise. The most common symptoms are fever, cough and expectoration. 1/3 of the patients have increased acidophilic granulocyte in peripheral blood. Chest X film and CT scanning suggest changes were similar to pneumonia. Chronic cases are manifested with bronchial asthma, bronchiectasis and pulmonary abscess. L. blattarum found in phlegm or specimen collected by bronchoscopy provides the most reliable evidence for the diagnosis of this disease. Conclusion: Bronchopulmonary L. blattarum infection is a new kind of diseases. The clinical manifestations are similar to pneumonia, asthma, bronchiectasis infection or pulmonary abscess. L. blattarum found in sputum smear, bronchoscopic brush smear, bronchoscopic biopsy smear, or hronchoalceolar lavage under microscope is the foundation of the diagnosis. The pathogen species has not been finally confirmed. It is still unclear how the pathogen exists in the natural environment, how to transmit to persons and what kind of people would suffer from the disease more easily. Treatment only with antibiotics is not effective to this disease. Metronidazole with dosage of 0.5 g per time and twice per day was effective to most patients, the period of treatment need to last 14-38 d, but multidrug resistance case had been reoorted.展开更多

METHODS: Different programs were used to analyze the secondary structure, molecular hydropathy, and surface accessibility of Hpyloriflagellin A. Linear B-cell epitopes were estimated based on the structural and physiochemical information. Analysis of residue divergence was proposed to screen a conservative linear epitope. The 29-peptide (Pep29mer) synthesized by chemical method, including the predicted conservative B-cell epitope and a known K^2d compatible T-cell epitope, was used to immunize mice, and then H pylori-specific antibodies were detected by ELISA. RESULTS: Based on the analyses of divergent amino acid residues, structural and physiochemical characteristics, it was strongly suggested that the short fragment NDSDGR was the core of a conservative linear epitope in flagellin A. Animals immunized by Pep29mer acquired efficient immune response. In detail, serum Hpylori-specific IgA and IgGl increased significantly in immunized group, while IgG2a only had an insignificant change. Hpylori-specific IgA in gastrointestinal flushing fluid also increased significantly. CONCLUSION: The conservative short fragment NDSDGR is the core of a linear B-cell epitope of flagellin A.展开更多

By combining these equations with Kawabata’s hand and silhouette evaluation methods, a software system was established. Then the mechanical properties, hand and silhouette of a fabric can be predicted quickly and accurately in terms of fiber configurations, yarn and fabric structures. The predictive result if unsatisfied can be revised by the function of “Help for designing modification”.展开更多
This study investagated the data of the prevalence of intestinal parasites of human from September 2007 to July 2008 using faecal samples which were picked from refuse dump sites. A total of 2,050 stool samples picked...This study investagated the data of the prevalence of intestinal parasites of human from September 2007 to July 2008 using faecal samples which were picked from refuse dump sites. A total of 2,050 stool samples picked and examined from five selected popular refuse dump sites in Ado-Ekiti. And Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia and Balantidium coli were mostly identified. The analysis of the infection shows that E. histolytica has a percentage prevalence of 65.5%, followed by G. lamblia with 42.5% and B. coli having 1.9%. Multiple infections of these parasites were also prevalent. There was a positive correlation (r=0.995, P〈0.05) between percentage prevalence of infection and home surroundings, waste, sewage disposal facilities and habits. Also, there was a significant difference (t=1 1.06, P〈0.05) in the prevalence of infections between location A and B. Probable ways of eliminating/controlling the disease are also highlighted.展开更多

Methods:PCR (polymerase chain reaction) was used to screen the periph...Objective:To study the expression and its clinical significance of HLA-G in HCMV intrauterine infected placental villi at early pregnant stage. Methods:PCR (polymerase chain reaction) was used to screen the peripheral blood for HCMV-DNA in 462 women who had willingly undergone induced abortion. Then immunohistochemistry was also used to detect expressions of mouse anti-HCMV early antigen (HCMV-EA) and mouse anti-HLA-G in HCMV-DNA positive cases' placental villi. The difference of HLA-G expressions between the intrauterine infection group(HCMV-EA positives), the intrauterine infection-free group(HCMV-EA negatives) and the normal control group (50 cases of healthy early placental villi) was compared. Results: Of the 78 cases, which were detected HCMV-DNA positive, 11 (14.10%) were HCMV-EA positive. Compared with the other two groups, HLA-G expressions in the intrauterine infection group were both obviously decreased(both P〈0. 001). HLA-G expression positions in all three groups were mainly located in the cytotrophoblast. Conclusion:Intrauterine HCMV infection at early pregnant stage is closely related to HLA-G expression at the maternal-fetal interface. The virogenetic products may affect the expression of HLA-G at the maternal-fetal interface and that of its immunological function, thus leading to different clinical outcomes.展开更多

Methods: A total of 12 New Zealand white rabbits, either se...Objective: To explore the characteristics of susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) of the intravitreous foreign body of autologous eyelashes in rabbits. Methods: A total of 12 New Zealand white rabbits, either sex, weighing 2.5-3.5 kg, and provided by the Experimental Animal Center of Henan Province were employed in this study. For each rabbit, 5 autologous eyelashes (1 cm in length and 0.2-0.3 mm in diameter) were implanted into the right ocular vitreum, while the left control ocular vitreum received sham operation but nothing was implanted. SWI sequential test was made 2 hours postoperatively. Then the rabbits were killed and the specimens of the vitreous bodies of the rabbits were obtained. Hematoxylin and eosin staining and histological examinations were performed. Results: The autologous eyelashes in 8 ocular vitreums of rabbits showed linear low signal intensity on the magni-tude images and susceptibility weighted images, but linear high signal intensity on the phase images. Among the 12 experimental rabbits, 5 eyelashes in the right vitreum were completely shown in 3 rabbits, partly shown in 5 rabbits (2 eyelashes shown in 3 rabbits and 3 eyelashes shown in 2 rabbits), and not shown in 4 rabbits. Conelusions: SWI of the foreign body ofintravitreous autologous eyelashes in rabbits has its own characteristics. The combined application of SWI sequential magnitude images, susceptibility weighted images and phase images is helpful to the detection and diagnosis of intravitreous autologous eyelashes in rabbits.展开更多
Mechanosensors are the most important organelles for osteocytes to perceive the changes of surrounding mechanical environment.To evaluate the biomechanical effectiveness of collagen hillock,cell process and primary...Mechanosensors are the most important organelles for osteocytes to perceive the changes of surrounding mechanical environment.To evaluate the biomechanical effectiveness of collagen hillock,cell process and primary·cilium in lacunar-canalicular system(LCS),we developed pressure-electricity-structure interaction models by using the COMSOL Multiphysics software to characterize the deformation of collagen hillocks-and primary cilium-based mechanosensors in osteocyte under fluid flow and electric field stimulation.And mechanical signals(pore pressure,fluid velocity,stress,deformation)were analyzed in LCS.The effects of changes in the elastic modulus of collagen hillocks,the number and location of cell processes,the length and location of primary cilia on the mechanosensitivity and the overall poroelastic responses of osteocytes were studied.These models predict that the presence of primary cilium and collagen hillocks resulted in significant stress amplifications(one and two orders of magnitude larger than osteocyte body)on the osteocyte.The growth of cell process along the long axis could stimulate osteocyte to a higher level than along the short axis.The Mises stress of the basal body of primary cilia near the top of osteocyte is 8 Pa greater than that near the bottom.However,the presence of collagen hillocks and primary cilium does not affect the mechanical signal of the whole osteocyte body.The established model can be used for studying the mechanism of bone mechanotransduction at the multiscale level.展开更多
