It was found that the subject used various strategies 26 times, 80% of which were achievement ones. Comparing the result with that of a previous research by Gao Haihong in 1999 on 164 college students in Wuxi which showed that those students 'obviously' used more reduction strategies than achievement ones, the author concludes that inhibition, which is partly determined by the learner's personality and paatly by learning situations, is highly relevant to the use of communication strategies. The implication for English teaching is that teachers should try to create a lively atmosphere in class to ease students' inhibition.展开更多
