[Method] Taking 13 introduced olive varieties including three varieties of eight different grades of maturity, fat acid w3s first extracted by Soxhlet extraction and then squalene was quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method. [Result] The results showed that squalene content was the highest in CG-32, and the lowest in Leccino among the 13 olive varieties. And squalene content increased with the degree of maturity in the three olive varieties including CG-32, Frantoio and Ascolana Tenera. [Conclusion] A more simple and rapid method for the determina- tion of squatene content was established.展开更多

[ Method] Near-infrared spectroscopy method (NIRS) was employed to measure the quality components in self pollinated seeds and naturally pollinated seeds of 861 shares of Brassica napus from Sichuan ecological region. And correlation analysis and regression analysis were conducted based on the experimental data via SPSS (statistics package for social science). [ Result] The contents of crude fat in the self pollinated seeds were commonly a higher than that in the naturally pollinated seeds at 0.01 significant level; while the contents of glucosinolates in the self pollinated seeds and the naturally pollinated seeds were insignificantly different. Both the correlation relationship and linear regression for the crude fat between the self pollinated seeds and naturally pollinated seeds reached the significant level. The regression equations for the contents of crude fat(y1 ) and glucosinolates( y2 ) in the naturally pollinated seeds and of crude fat( x1 ) and glucosinolates( x2 ) in self pollinated seeds were respectively determined to be y1 = 16.844 +0.614x1 and y2 = -0.620 + 1.017 x2. [ Conclusion] In Brassica napus breeding, crude fat in naturally pollinated seeds should be emphatically taken into account, meanwhile concurrently considering that in self pollinated seeds; while glucosinolates in both the self pollinated seeds and the naturally pollinated seeds must be simultaneously concerned.展开更多

Here reports an extra-large seed germplasm GM01 which was obtained through isolated microspore culture. Three-way cross was made: H8--a Yunnan spring early-maturing rapeseed variety, "Legeney"--a Canadian canola variety and "020010"--a semi-winter late-maturing rapeseed variety. One hundred and forty eight doubled hyploid lines were obtained from the F~ plants of three-way cross through isolated mierospore culture. Among them, the TSW of GM01 amounted to 8.68 g and the TSW of 53 lines were above 5.0 g. The TSWs of GM01 were relatively stable among the multi-location field trials from 2007 to 2014 with variation being only 10%-15% among the locations and years. Compared with H8, GM01 had larger flowers, stigmas, siliques and seed diameters, but less branches, siliques per plant and seeds per silique.展开更多

Nevertheless, the gradual decontrol of market and the storage requirement under low oil price, crude oil imports hit a record high of 335.5 million tons, with the growth rate approximating 9%. Refined oil exports soared and imports decreased, which made China become a net refined oil exporter for the first time for 24 years, and net imports reached 6.22 million tons. Robust requirement on chemical raw materials propelled imported liquefied petroleum gas market to go on expanding. Imports exceeded 12 ,zillion tons in 2015, thus China leaped into the world's largest liquefied petroleum gas importer. In 2016, oil consumption growth would be kept at lower level. However, China would further decontrol crude oil import and refined oil export permits and put incremental storage capacity, into use. Most oil and oil products are transported by sea. The aim of this study was to evaluate the handling capacity of the Tupraslzmit Tanker Terminal, which is an important hub for Turkey with regards to the transportation ofoil and refined oil products. To assess the capacity of the port and to determine the amount of queuing that could form with regards to tug services; the Awesim simulation program was used. Based on the study results, a comparison was performed between the port's current annual handling capacity and the maximum amount of cargo it can handle. In addition, by using the study data, the maximum amount of queuing that can form in tug services was also calculated for days with unfavorable weather and sea conditions. This study thus represents a case study performed with the Awesim modeling program in order to determine port efficiency.展开更多

The objective of this work was to evaluate the frying characteristics of plantains at different stages of ripening. The plantains used in the study were at the unripe stage through four different ripening stages. The samples were peeled and sliced into 2 mm thickness and blanched in hot water at 70 ℃ for 3 min. The slices were then deep flied in canola oil at 180 ℃. The result showed that ripening stage significantly affected moisture loss and fat absorption profiles of the plantain chips. Fully ripened plantain absorbed up to 34% (db) oil during 4 min frying, much higher than unripe plantain. The oil uptake and moisture loss during frying of the plantain chip samples were modelled using 1st order kinetics. The kinetic parameters including rates of moisture loss and oil uptake varied according to the different stages of ripening. Ripening had a significant effect on the colour lightness (L) of the chips. Similarly, the redness (a), the yellowness (b) and textural characteristics were significantly affected by ripening stage.展开更多

Untapped wind a...Even though Saudi Arabia is the world's largest producer and exporter of petroleum and petroleum based products, it is also blessed with high potential of renewable energy sources like solar and wind. Untapped wind and solar energy sources, which are abundant throughout the kingdom, can be connected and optimally integrated into the grid through the use of smart grid technologies and the expansion of transmission facilities. Smart grid is an auto-balancing, self-monitoring power grid that accepts power from any source of fuel like oil, sun or wind and delivers electricity from suppliers to consumers. It helps to control the use of appliances in order to save energy, reduces cost and increase reliability. This paper describes the attributes of a smart grid and how these act as driving force to modernize the electrical power grid. The necessity of conservation of oil in Saudi Arabia is argued. Moreover, the vast availability of renewable energy sources like solar and wind in Saudi Arabia and advantages in utilizing these sources through smart grid technologies are advocated in this paper.展开更多
