The nonlinear static characteristic of a piezoelectric unimorph cantilever micro actuator driven by a strong applied electric field is studied based on the couple stress theory.The cantilever actuator consists of a pi...The nonlinear static characteristic of a piezoelectric unimorph cantilever micro actuator driven by a strong applied electric field is studied based on the couple stress theory.The cantilever actuator consists of a piezoelectric layer,a passive(elastic)layer and two electrode layers.First,the nonlinear static characteristic of the actuator caused by the electrostriction of the piezoelectric layer under a strong applied electric field is analyzed using the Rayleigh-Ritz method.Secondly,since the thickness of the cantilever beam is in micro scale and there exists a size effect,the size dependence of the deformation behavior is evaluated using the couple stress theory.The results show that the nonlinearities of the beam deflection increase along with the increase of the applied electric field which means that softening of the micro beam rigidity exists when a strong external electric field is applied.Meanwhile,the optimal value of the thickness ratio for the passive layer and the piezoelectric layer is not around 1.0 which is usually adopted by some previous researchers.Since there exists a size effect of the micro beam deflection,the optimal value of this thickness ratio should be greater than 1.0 in micro scale.展开更多

Electroencephalogram(EEG) da...In order to investigate the characteristics of sensorimotor cortex during motor execution(ME), voluntary, stimulated and imaginary finger flexions were performed by ten volunteer subjects. Electroencephalogram(EEG) data were recorded according to the modified 10-20 International EEG System. The patterns were compared by the analysis of the motion-evoked EEG signals focusing on the contralateral(C3) and ipsilateral(C4) channels for hemispheric differences. The EEG energy distributions at alpha(8—13 Hz), beta(14—30 Hz) and gamma(30—50 Hz) bands were computed by wavelet transform(WT) and compared by the analysis of variance(ANOVA). The timefrequency(TF) analysis indicated that there existed a contralateral dominance of alpha post-movement event-related synchronization(ERS) pattern during the voluntary task, and that the energy of alpha band increased in the ipsilateral area during the stimulated(median nerve of wrist) task. Besides, the contralateral alpha and beta event-related desynchronization(ERD) patterns were observed in both stimulated and imaginary tasks. Another significant difference was found in the mean power values of gamma band(p<0.01)between the imaginary and other tasks. The results show that significant hemispheric differences such as alpha and beta band EEG energy distributions and TF changing phenomena(ERS/ERD) were found between C3 and C4 areas during all of the three patterns. The largest energy distribution was always at the alpha band for each task.展开更多

The case study reviews the background and fate of the only veto overridden during his term in office. It finds that the Bush White House had tried on several previous occasions to scrap the legislation, only to have it be reintroduced in each succeeding Congress. By 1992, when George Bush was running for reelection and in trouble politically, his team was unable to stave off defeat. The article likewise assesses the success of the Bush administration in its employment of the veto and compares the veto record of President Bush to previous and subsequent chief executives.展开更多

The key issue for power systems managers, public utilities companies and electrical engineers today concerns the manner in which available financial resources should be invested in these OPLs to provide the greatest impact on the power system as a whole and to address the OPLs that require urgent revitalization. This paper presents the application of the software tool RevOPL, developed using Microsoft Access utilizing the "methodology for revitalization of high-voltage OPLs". The aim is to present both the methodology and software to objectively evaluate the condition of an OPL and determine its remaining service life. The application of this software tool provides a proposal for the scheduling and scope of planned revitalization activities, which are obtained through the optimization of the technical characteristics while remaining within the available budget.展开更多

The proposed method is based on the stoppable clock models. The architecture has been simulated and synthesized with VHDL and ASIC (CMOS 45 nm). Recently,virtualization technologies have been widely used in industry.In order to monitor the security of target systems in virtualization environments,conventional methods usually put the security monitoring mechani...Recently,virtualization technologies have been widely used in industry.In order to monitor the security of target systems in virtualization environments,conventional methods usually put the security monitoring mechanism into the normal functionality of the target systems.However,these methods are either prone to be tempered by attackers or introduce considerable performance overhead for target systems.To address these problems,in this paper,we present a concurrent security monitoring method which decouples traditional serial mechanisms,including security event collector and analyzer,into two concurrent components.On one hand,we utilize the SIM framework to deploy the event collector into the target virtual machine.On the other hand,we combine the virtualization technology and multi-core technology to put the event analyzer into a trusted execution environment.To address the synchronization problem between these two concurrent components,we make use of Lamport's ring buffer algorithm.Based on the Xen hypervisor,we have implemented a prototype system named COMO.The experimental results show that COMO can monitor the security of the target virtual machine concurrently within a little performance overhead.展开更多
