In Internet of Things(IoT), the devices or terminals are connected with each other, which can be very diverse over the wireless networks. Unfortunately, the current devices are not designed to communicate with the collocated devices which employ different communication technologies. Consequently, the communication between these devices will be realized only by using the gateway nodes. This will cause the inefficient use of wireless resources. Therefore, in this paper, a smart service system(SSS) architecture is proposed, which consists of smart service terminal(SST), and smart service network(SSN), to realize the Io T in a general environment with diverse communication networks, devices, and services. The proposed architecture has the following advantages: i) the devices in this architecture cover multiple types of terminals and sensor-actuator devices; ii) the communications network therein is a converged network, and will coordinate multiple kinds of existing and emerging networks. This converged network offers ubiquitous access for various sensors and terminals; iii) the architecture has services and applications covering all smart service areas. It also provides theadaptability to new services and applications. A SSS architecture-based smart campus system was developed and deployed. Evaluation experiments of the proposed smart campus system demonstrate the SSS's advantages over the existing counterparts, and verify the effectiveness of the proposed architecture. 展开更多

A future smart grid must fulfill the vision of the Energy Internet in which millions of people produce their own energy from renewables in their homes, offices, and factories and share it with each other. Electric vehicles and local energy storage will be widely deployed. Internet technology will be utilized to transform the power grid into an energysharing inter-grid. To prepare for the future, a smart grid with intelligent periphery, or smart GRIP, is proposed. The building blocks of GRIP architecture are called clusters and include an energy-management system (EMS)-controlled transmission grid in the core and distribution grids, micro-grids, and smart buildings and homes on the periphery; all of which are hierarchically structured. The layered architecture of GRIP allows a seamless transition from the present to the future and plug-and-play interoperability. The basic functions of a cluster consist of (1) dispatch, (2) smoothing, and (3) mitigation. A risk-limiting dispatch methodology is presented; a new device, called the electric spring, is developed for smoothing out fluctuations in periphery clusters; and means to mitigate failures are discussed. 展开更多

Cascaded H-Bridge inverter has been researched for the past two decades, but there are no explicit guidelines on how one can realize a cascaded NPC (neutral-point-clamped)/H-Bridge inverter. Past research has also concentrated on realizing a five-level NPC/H-Bridge inverter. This fails to address the principle of realizing a general cascaded N-level NPC/H-Bridge PWM inverter. This paper proposes an improved topology for achieving a nine-level cascaded NPC (neutral-point-clamped) H-Bridge inverter with reduced harmonic content. This new proposed topology requires a lesser number of separate dc sources as compared to conventional cascaded H-Bridge inverter. The whole system is considered as having four three level legs having two positive and two negative legs. By properly phase shifting the modulating wave and carriers, a nine-level output is achieved. A theoretical harmonic analysis of the proposed inverter is carried out based on double Fourier principle. The theoretical results are verified through MATLAB simulation. 展开更多

The connection skeleton is just one that not only can be computed stably but also can figure the connectivity structure of contour. A new method named continuous connectivity detection and a new model named approximate regular polygon (ARP) were proposed for connection skeleton extraction. Both the method and the model were tested by the real maps of road network including flyovers, interchanges and other common object contours. Satisfactory results were obtained. 展开更多

Tandem white organic light-emitting diodes(WOLEDs) are of great research interest since they can greatly boost the performance compared with the single-unit counterparts. However, their structures are more complicated... Tandem white organic light-emitting diodes(WOLEDs) are of great research interest since they can greatly boost the performance compared with the single-unit counterparts. However, their structures are more complicated than those of single-unit OLEDs. Besides, to achieve high performance, the doping technology is required to tandem OLEDs, particularly for tandem WOLEDs, further complicating the structures. Herein, doping-free tandem WOLEDs, for the first time, have been demonstrated. By managing an effective doping-free charge generation layer to interconnect doping-free emitting layers/charge transport layers, high-performance doping-free tandem WOLEDs have been developed. The blueyellow device accomplishes the simplified structure/short fabrication time/reduced cost/high efficiency/low efficiency roll-off/low voltage/high luminance trade-off, which cannot be achieved by previous tandem WOLEDs. Remarkably, the efficiency(81.2 cd A^(-1)) is ~2-fold higher than the highest efficiency of previous doping-free WOLEDs and even higher than those of some best doping tandem WOLEDs. The maximum luminance is 44,886 cd m^(-2), which is the highest for doping-free WOLEDs.Besides, the blue-red device can exhibit a color rendering index(CRI) of 67, which is even higher than that of some representative three-color tandem WOLEDs. Such findings may not only represent a significant step for doping-free WOLEDs, but unlock a novel avenue that doping-free tandem WOLEDs are promising to achieve the simplicity and high performance trade-off. 展开更多
