The types of investigated admixtures include naphthalene series high range water reducing agent, polycarboxlic series high range water reduce agent and sodium sulfate hardening accelerating agent. Two kinds of curing condition, namely steam curing condition and standard curing condition, are adopted. The result shows that HPC, added with polycarboxlic series of high performance water reducer, has high workability and strength, while sodium sulfate accelerating agent causes poor workability and low strength. Thus for vapor-cured HPC and its formulations, naphthalene series high range water reducing agent with less sodium sulfate should be given pri- ority. Therefore, the differences of curing conditions should be considered when selecting HPC admixtures.展开更多

The clays with various sodium chloride salt concentrations...This study aims to quantify the influence of the amount of cement and chloride salt on the unconfined compression strength (UCS) of Lianyungang marine clay. The clays with various sodium chloride salt concentrations were prepared artificially and stabilized by ordinary Portland cement with various contents. A series of UCS tests of cement stabilized clay specimen after 28 d curing were carried out. The results indicate that the increase of salt concentration results in the decrease in the UCS of cement-treated soil. The negative effect of salt concentration on the strength of cement stabilized clay directly relates to the cement content and salt concentration. The porosity-salt concentration/cement content ratio is a fundamental parameter for assessing the UCS of cement-treated salt-rich clay. An empirical prediction model of UCS is also proposed to take into account the effect of salt concentration. The findings of this study can be referenced for the stabilization improvement of chloride slat- rich soft clay.展开更多

The simplex-centroid design with upper and lower bounds of component proportion is adopted to study the compressive strength of mortars made with ternary blends of cement, activated coal gangue and fly ash. Based on the results of a minimum of seven design points, three special cubic polynomial models are used to establish the strength predicating equations at different ages for mortars. Five experimental checkpoints were also designed to verify the precision of the equations. The most frequent errors of the predicted values are within 3%. A simple and practical way is provided for determining the optimal proportion of two admixtures when they are used in concrete.展开更多

Cement, fly ash, and slag as principal ingredients were mixed with water glass in different ways to produce three composite grouting materials. In order to investigate the effect of water glass mixing ratio, Baume degree, fly ash and slag contents on the mechanical properties of the composite grouting materials, particularly their gel time and compressive strength, the beaker-to-beaker method of gel time test and unconfined compressive strength test were conducted. In addition, the phase composition and microstructure of the composite grouting materials were analyzed by the X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscope(SEM) techniques. The test results show that their gel time increases when water glass mixing ratio and Baume degree increase. The gel time increases dramatically when fly ash is added, but decreases slightly if fly ash is partly replaced by slag. When the mixing ratio of water glass is below 20%, their compressive strength increases with the increases of the ratio; when the ratio is above 20%, it significantly decreases. The compressive strength also tends to increase as Baume degree increases, and improves if fly ash and slag are added.展开更多

The quality and strength of stabilized columns are fundamental parameters to evaluate the stabilization work. This paper presents the standard penetration test (SPT) method and its test results on cement columns. It is shown that SPT is an effective and simple method for inspecting and evaluating cement columns. The strength characteristics along the length of the column, a good correction between SPT blow count and the unconfined compressive strength are achieved.展开更多
