In this study,a trifunctional strategy was developed to prepare a confined Ni-based catalyst(Ni-CeO_(2)@SiO_(2))for dry reforming of methane(DRM)of two main greenhouse gases-CO_(2)and CH_(4).The Ni-CeO_(2)@SiO_(2)cata...In this study,a trifunctional strategy was developed to prepare a confined Ni-based catalyst(Ni-CeO_(2)@SiO_(2))for dry reforming of methane(DRM)of two main greenhouse gases-CO_(2)and CH_(4).The Ni-CeO_(2)@SiO_(2)catalyst was fabricated by utilizing the confinement effect of the SiO_(2)shell and the synergistic interaction between Ni-Ce and the decoking effect of CeO_(2).The catalysts were systematically characterized via X-ray diffraction,N_(2 )adsorption/desorption,transmission electron microscopy,energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,hydrogen temperature reduction and desorption set by program,oxygen temperature program desorption,Raman spectroscopy,thermogravimetric analysis,and in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy measurements to reveal their physicochemical properties and reaction mechanism.The Ni-CeO_(2)@SiO_(2)catalyst exhibited higher activity and stability than the catalyst synthesized via the traditional impregnation method.In addition,no carbon deposition was detected over Ni-CeO_(2)@SiO_(2)after a 100 h durability test at 800℃,and the average particle size of Ni nanoparticles(NPs)in the catalyst increased from 5.01 to 5.77 nm.Remarkably,Ni-CeO_(2)@SiO_(2)also exhibited superior low-temperature stability;no coke deposition was observed when the catalyst was reacted at 600℃ for 20 h.The high coking and sintering resistance of this confined Ni-based DRM catalyst can be attributed to its trifunctional effect.The trifunctional strategy developed in this study could be used as a guideline to design other high-performance catalysts for CO_(2)and CH4 dry forming and accelerate their industrialization.展开更多

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine if antioxidant supplementation, moderate exercise, and the combination of both treatments could ameliorate cognitive performance in adult mice and whether the apoli...Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine if antioxidant supplementation, moderate exercise, and the combination of both treatments could ameliorate cognitive performance in adult mice and whether the apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotype as well as sex could influence the functional outcomes of the treatments. Methods: For a period of 16 weeks, separate groups of male and female mice expressing either the human APOE3 or APOE4 isoforms were fed either a control diet (NIH-31) or the control diet supplemented with vitamins E and C (1.12 IU/g diet a-tocopheryl acetate and 1.65 mg/g ascorbic acid). The mice were further separated into a sedentary group or a group that followed a daily exercise regimen. After 8 weeks on the treatments, the mice were administered a battery of functional tests including tests to measure cognitive and affective function. Results: There was no effect of genotype or treatment on the learning performance in the Morris water maze. In the discriminated avoidance task, APOE4 mice performed better in learning the discrimination component of the task. Overall, exercise improved performance of APOE4 and APOE3 mice on various aspects of the active avoidance task. Antioxidant supplementation improved performance only in the APOE4 mice. On the test for anxiety, APOE4 mice spent more time in the open arms and supplementation with antioxidant reversed that effect. Conclusion: Exercise was the most effective treatment at improving cognitive function in both genotypes and sex, while antioxidants seemed to be effective only in the APOE4. In young adult mice only non-spatial learning and memory were improved. The combination of the two treatments did not yield further improvement in cognition, and there was no antagonistic action of the antioxidant supplementation on the beneficial effects of exercise.展开更多

This study found that an extract ofNostochopsis spp. was the highest antioxidant activity to DPPH free radical between 32.1 and 87.5, the highest amount of beta-carotene was 4.71-7.09 mg/g and the highest amount of phenol in fresh edible algae extracts from Microspora was between 9.37 and 37.02 mg/g. Animal experiments were conducted to examine it...In order to overcome hypoxia induced sickness, a stable source of anti-hypoxia functional agents, Sehizophyllum commune fermented broth has been developed in this study. Animal experiments were conducted to examine its anti-hypoxia activities and possible mechanisms involved. The acute hypoxic experiment showed that Sehizophyllum commune fermented broth could significantly prolong the survival time of mice. The underlying mechanisms were associated with improved energy metabolism based on a study carried out in rats exposed to a low pressure chamber simulating the low pressure environment of 8 000 m altitude. It was concluded that the Schizophyllum commune fermented broth was an effective anti-hypoxia functional agent and could be greatly bene- ficial to those living and working at high altitudes, such as people who reside in the reconstruction regions of Yushu.展开更多

(carabao mango), AnnonaMuricata L. (soursop), Citrofortunellamicrocarpa(calamansi), and Musa acuminate x balbisianaColla (ABB Group) (plantain banana) have long been used in the processed food industries. However, the peelsof these fruits are normally disposed as waste or at most used as fertilizer and feeds. The objective of the study is to characterize the peels of these fruits as functional food/ingredient. Freeze-dried fruits peels of carabao mango, soursop, calamansi and plantain banana were analyzed for proximate composition, dietary fiber and phytonutrients contents, fermentability invitro and antioxidant activity. Results showed soursop peels having significantly higher soluble (12.75 g/100 g sample) and insoluble (62.55 g/100 g sample) dietary fiber among the fruit peels studied. All peels produced significant amounts of short chain fatty acids, propionate 〉 acetate 〉 butyrate. Carabao mango peels produced the highest amount of acetate while calamansipeels, the highest propionate (215.8± 3.6 mg/100 g). Carabao mango and soursop peels have significantly greater total polyphenols, flavonoids, anthocyanidins andantioxidant activity. The study showed that fruit peels of carabao mango, soursop, calamansi and plantain banana can be potential functional food ingredients.展开更多

The control group was fed a basal diet containing fresh fish oil, and the other two groups received the same diet except for the substitution with the same dosage of oxidized fish oil alone or with ISF(oxidized fish oil plus ISF). After 21 d of feeding, supplementation of oxidized fish oil increased the levels of malondialdehyde(MDA), oxidized glutathione(GSSG), interleukin-1β(IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), interleukin-2(IL-2), nuclear factor κ B(NF-κB), inducible nitric oxide synthase(iN OS), NO, and Caspase-3 in jejunal mucosa, and decreased the villous height in duodenum and the levels of secretory immunoglobulin A(sI gA) and IL-4 in the jejunal mucosa compared with supplementation with fresh oil. The addition of oxidized fish oil plus ISF partially alleviated this negative effect. The addition of oxidized fish oil plus ISF increased the villous height and levels of sI gA and IL-4 in jejunal mucosa, but decreased the levels of IL-1β and IL-2 in jejunal mucosa(P0.05) compared with oxidized fish oil. Collectively, these results show that dietary supplementation of ISF could partly alleviate the negative effect of oxidized fish oil by improving the intestinal morphology as well as the antioxidant capacity and immune function in young piglets.展开更多
Resveratrol(3,5,4’-trihydroxystilbene,RSV) has been widely used in mammalian cells,but whether it can be used during freezing boar semen is still unknown.The effects of RSV treatment during boar semen freezing on its...Resveratrol(3,5,4’-trihydroxystilbene,RSV) has been widely used in mammalian cells,but whether it can be used during freezing boar semen is still unknown.The effects of RSV treatment during boar semen freezing on its anti-freezing ability,apoptosis,and possible apoptotic pathways were observed in this study.Sperm motility,mitochondrial membrane potential(ΔΨm),adenosine triphosphate(ATP) content,terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase(TdT)-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling(TUNEL)-positive apoptotic state,and messenger RNA(mRNA) expression levels of apoptotic genes involved in different apoptotic pathways after freezing with or without RSV treatment were tested.The results showed that:(1) Compared with fresh sperm,the motility,normal acrosome rate,and plasma membrane integrity rate of frozen boar sperm decreased significantly(P<0.05),and RSV did not significantly increase the sperm motility(0.44 vs.0.40,P>0.05),but it did significantly improve the normal acrosome rate(57.65% vs.47.00%,P<0.05) and plasma membrane integrity rate(46.67% vs.38.85%,P<0.05).(2) After freezing,most boar sperm showed low mitochondrial ΔΨm.RSV treatment could increase the rate of high mitochondrial ΔΨm of boar sperm.(3) RSV treatment significantly decreased reactive oxygen species(ROS) levels(58.65% vs.88.41%,P<0.05)and increased the ATP content(0.49 μmol/L vs.0.25 μmol/L,P<0.05) of boar sperm during freezing.(4) The apoptotic rate of the freezing group(80.41%) with TUNEL detection increased significantly compared to the fresh group(9.70%,P<0.05),and RSV treatment greatly decreased the apoptotic rate(68.32%,P<0.05).(5) Real-time polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) showed that not only the genes from the death receptor-mediated apoptotic pathway(tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),Fas ligand(FasL),and Caspase-8),but also the genes from the mitochondria-mediated apoptotic pathway(manganese superoxide dismutase(MnSOD),B-cell lymphoma 2(Bcl-2),Bcl-2-associated X protein(Bax),and Caspase-9) were both significantly changed after freezing.RSV treatment during freezing greatly changed their expression levels.Although RSV treatment during boar semen freezing did not significantly increase motility after thawing,it still played an efficient antioxidant role,which could enhance the mitochondrial function and decrease the apoptotic level induced by both the death receptor-and mitochondria-mediated apoptotic pathways.展开更多
The goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of a mixture of yeast culture, cell wall hydrolysates, and yeast extracts(collectively "yeast products," YP) on the performance, intestinal physiology, and health...The goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of a mixture of yeast culture, cell wall hydrolysates, and yeast extracts(collectively "yeast products," YP) on the performance, intestinal physiology, and health of weaned piglets. A total of 90 piglets weaned at 21 d of age were blocked by body weight, sex, and litter and randomly assigned to one of three treatments for a 14-d feeding experiment, including(1) a basal diet(control),(2) 1.2 g/kg of YP, and(3) 20 mg/kg of colistin sulfate(CSE). No statistically significant differences were observed in average daily feed intake, average daily weight gain, or gain-to-feed ratio among CSE, YP, and control piglets. Increased prevalence of diarrhea was observed among piglets fed the YP diet, whereas diarrhea was less prevalent among those fed CSE. Duodenal and jejunal villus height and duodenal crypt depth were greater in the control group than they were in the YP or CSE groups. Intraepithelial lymphocytes(IEL) in the duodenal and jejunal villi were enhanced by YP, whereas IEL in the ileal villi were reduced in weaned piglets fed YP. Secretion of jejunal and ileal interleukin-10(IL-10) was higher and intestinal and serum antioxidant indexes were affected by YP and CSE. In YP- and CSE-supplemented animals, serum D-lactate concentration and diamine oxidase(DAO) activity were both increased, and intestinal mR NA expressions of occludin and ZO-1 were reduced as compared to the control animals. In conclusion, YP supplementation in the diets of weaned piglets appears to increase the incidence of diarrhea and has adverse effects on intestinal morphology and barrier function.展开更多

In this review, we describe the preparation of DKGM and its prebiotic effects. Other health benefits of DKGM, covering antioxidant and immune activity, are also discussed, as well as its safety. DKGM could be a candidate for use as a tool for the treatment of various diseases, including intestinal flora imbalance, and oxidative-and immune-related disorders.展开更多

文摘Resveratrol(3,5,4’-trihydroxystilbene,RSV) has been widely used in mammalian cells,but whether it can be used during freezing boar semen is still unknown.The effects of RSV treatment during boar semen freezing on its anti-freezing ability,apoptosis,and possible apoptotic pathways were observed in this study.Sperm motility,mitochondrial membrane potential(ΔΨm),adenosine triphosphate(ATP) content,terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase(TdT)-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling(TUNEL)-positive apoptotic state,and messenger RNA(mRNA) expression levels of apoptotic genes involved in different apoptotic pathways after freezing with or without RSV treatment were tested.The results showed that:(1) Compared with fresh sperm,the motility,normal acrosome rate,and plasma membrane integrity rate of frozen boar sperm decreased significantly(P<0.05),and RSV did not significantly increase the sperm motility(0.44 vs.0.40,P>0.05),but it did significantly improve the normal acrosome rate(57.65% vs.47.00%,P<0.05) and plasma membrane integrity rate(46.67% vs.38.85%,P<0.05).(2) After freezing,most boar sperm showed low mitochondrial ΔΨm.RSV treatment could increase the rate of high mitochondrial ΔΨm of boar sperm.(3) RSV treatment significantly decreased reactive oxygen species(ROS) levels(58.65% vs.88.41%,P<0.05)and increased the ATP content(0.49 μmol/L vs.0.25 μmol/L,P<0.05) of boar sperm during freezing.(4) The apoptotic rate of the freezing group(80.41%) with TUNEL detection increased significantly compared to the fresh group(9.70%,P<0.05),and RSV treatment greatly decreased the apoptotic rate(68.32%,P<0.05).(5) Real-time polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) showed that not only the genes from the death receptor-mediated apoptotic pathway(tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),Fas ligand(FasL),and Caspase-8),but also the genes from the mitochondria-mediated apoptotic pathway(manganese superoxide dismutase(MnSOD),B-cell lymphoma 2(Bcl-2),Bcl-2-associated X protein(Bax),and Caspase-9) were both significantly changed after freezing.RSV treatment during freezing greatly changed their expression levels.Although RSV treatment during boar semen freezing did not significantly increase motility after thawing,it still played an efficient antioxidant role,which could enhance the mitochondrial function and decrease the apoptotic level induced by both the death receptor-and mitochondria-mediated apoptotic pathways.

文摘The goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of a mixture of yeast culture, cell wall hydrolysates, and yeast extracts(collectively "yeast products," YP) on the performance, intestinal physiology, and health of weaned piglets. A total of 90 piglets weaned at 21 d of age were blocked by body weight, sex, and litter and randomly assigned to one of three treatments for a 14-d feeding experiment, including(1) a basal diet(control),(2) 1.2 g/kg of YP, and(3) 20 mg/kg of colistin sulfate(CSE). No statistically significant differences were observed in average daily feed intake, average daily weight gain, or gain-to-feed ratio among CSE, YP, and control piglets. Increased prevalence of diarrhea was observed among piglets fed the YP diet, whereas diarrhea was less prevalent among those fed CSE. Duodenal and jejunal villus height and duodenal crypt depth were greater in the control group than they were in the YP or CSE groups. Intraepithelial lymphocytes(IEL) in the duodenal and jejunal villi were enhanced by YP, whereas IEL in the ileal villi were reduced in weaned piglets fed YP. Secretion of jejunal and ileal interleukin-10(IL-10) was higher and intestinal and serum antioxidant indexes were affected by YP and CSE. In YP- and CSE-supplemented animals, serum D-lactate concentration and diamine oxidase(DAO) activity were both increased, and intestinal mR NA expressions of occludin and ZO-1 were reduced as compared to the control animals. In conclusion, YP supplementation in the diets of weaned piglets appears to increase the incidence of diarrhea and has adverse effects on intestinal morphology and barrier function.

文摘Konjac glucomannan(KGM) is a water-soluble polysaccharide obtained from the roots and tubers of konjac plants. Recently, a degraded product of KGM, depolymerized KGM(DKGM), has attracted attention because of its low viscosity, improved hydrophily, and favorable physiological functions. In this review, we describe the preparation of DKGM and its prebiotic effects. Other health benefits of DKGM, covering antioxidant and immune activity, are also discussed, as well as its safety. DKGM could be a candidate for use as a tool for the treatment of various diseases, including intestinal flora imbalance, and oxidative-and immune-related disorders.
