Some biological properties were compared between nit mutants and their parental isolates. The results showed that there were no significant differences in growth rate, cultural characters or pathogenicity between JS399-19-resistant nit mutants and their parental isolates. But the conidial production and the sexual reproduction ability changed to some extent. There was no cross resistance toward chlorate and JS399-19 in F. graminearum and the resistance could be stable through 20-time subcultures. Therefore, the nit could be used as a genetic marker for studying the genetics of JS399-19 resistance in E graminearum, which was used to study JS399-19 resistance transferability in hyphal fusion. Resistance in JS399-19 could not be transferred by hyphal fusion or could be transferred with low chance between two compatible isolates, which would delay the development of JS399-19 resistance in the field.展开更多

Antioxidant activity was evaluated through 2,2-diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay and β-carotene/linoleic acid assay. The essential oil and methanol extract were individually tested [disc-diffusion assay and evaluating minimum inhibition concentration (MIC)] against a number of bacteria. The essential oil showed strong antimicrobial activity against bacteria tested whereas the methanol extract almost remained inactive. In contrast, the extract showed much better activity than the essential oil in antioxidant activity assays employed, e.g. in the inhibition of free radical DPPH and β-carotene/linolcic acid systems. In the former, the extract was able to reduce the stable free radical DPPH with an IC50 of 55.3μg/mL while that of the oils were 10,630μg/mL. When compared to BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene), a synthetic antioxidant, both showed weaker antioxidative potential. Similarly, in β-carotene/linoleic acid assay, these samples were not effectively able to inhibit the linoleic acid oxidation; exhibiting only 24% and 36% inhibitions at 2 mg/mL, respectively; both were far below than that of BHT. Total phenolic constituent of the extract was approximately 4.5 g/100 g as gallic acid equivalent. Gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) analysis of the oil resulted in the identification of 45 constituents, ei^-piperitone epoxide, pulegone and piperitenone oxide being the main components. The results indicate that essential oil and extract ofM. longifolia L. hudson may be used as natural preservative in food against the agents of foodborne diseases and food spoilage.展开更多

The dried stem bark of S. borneensis were collected and homogenized after drying at room temperature (32℃) for 30 d. The stem barks were extracted by macerated method using 95% ethanol and then fractionated with ethyl acetate. The dried ethyl acetate extract was subjected to phytoehemical screening to determine the presence of bioactive components using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Antioxidant activity of the extract in vitro was examined by 2,2-diphenyl-l-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay. The antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli was performed by disc diffusion assay. GCMS results revealed the presence of 14 different phytocompounds, viz, tetratriacontyl trifluoroacetate (41.61%), 2-pentanone (13.65%), oxacyclotetradecane-2,11-done (7.87%), cinnamic acid (7.53%), 10-octadecanoic acid (6.50%), 1,2-benzeno dicarboxylix acid (4.99%), octadecanoic acid (4.51%), hexadecanoic acid (4.16%), beta tumerone (3.01%), 9-octadecenoic acid (1.70%), tricosanol (1.38%), hexadecano-phenone (1.36%), 1-nonadecanol (0.93%) and n-nonadecanol (0.82%). In vitro antioxidant activity (IC50) was found at 55.524 ppm as high powerful. The results of agar diffusion method showed that the ethyl acetate extracts had an antibacterial activity of 6.687 ± 0.800 mm againts S. aureus at 10% (w/v) and 7.500 ± 0.735 mm against E. coli at 10% (w/v) as moderate category. These findings suggest that S. borneensis stem bark is a valuable sources of bioactive compounds with promising as antioxidant and antibacterial sources.展开更多

Treatment with bee products in Georgia has been described in popular writings. Among bee products, honey and propolis are of most particular interest. Propolis is characterized by antimicrobial, antiviral, antioxidant, anticarcinogenic and analgesic properties. We have studied relationship between optical density and antimicrobial properties. Almost all samples of Georgian propolis are characterized by high optical density and antimicrobial activity. Studies have discovered that optical density was high in the samples of spring season. The maximal absorption values have been observed at a wavelength of 290-310 nm that is characteristic of flavonoids. Also, the sample with a relatively low optical density (Baghdati district) has exhibited antimicrobial activity that is conditioned not by polyphenols, but flavonoids.展开更多

This study sought to determine the secondary metabolites present, phenolic contents, radical scavenging activities and antibacterial properties of 10 selected ornamental flowers which were Adenium obesum, Allamanda cathartica, Bougainvillea glabra, Catharanthus roseus, Caesalpinia pulcherrima, Heliconia subulata, Ixora coccinea, Mussaenda philippica, Tecoma stans and Torenia fournieri, from Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines. The ethanolic crude extracts were subjected to thin layer chromatography (TLC) phytochemical screening. Total phenolics expressed as mg AAE/g sample were determined through Folin-Ciocalteu method. Radical scavenging activities were measured using DPPH assay. Antibacterial activities were assessed through TLC bioautography. To quantify bacterial susceptibility of C. pulcherrima, MIC and MBC were employed in the ethyl acetate sub-fraction. TLC showed different types of phenolics, alkaloids, essential oils and terpenes. T. fournieri showed the highest total phenolics with 155 mg AAE/g while H. subulatahad showed the lowest with 3.50 mg AAE/g. Measurement of IC59 showed that H. subulata had the highest antioxidant activity followed by T. fournieri with 303 ppm and 320 ppm, respectively. H. subulata having the least amount of total phenolics had greatest radical scavenging activity. This indicates that other than phenolics, other metabolites can pose great antioxidant activities. The antibacterial testing showed that M. philippica, 1. coccinea, 1-1. subulata, C. pulcherrima and A. cathartica were bioactive against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coll. MIC and MBC of C. pulcherrima ethyl acetate sub-fraction is within the range of 2.5-10 mg/mL.展开更多

The results indicate that essential oil and extract ofM. longifolia L. hudson may be used as natural preservative in food against the agents of foodborne diseases and food spoilage.

文摘The objective of this study was to examine the phytochemical components, antioxidant activity and antibacterial property of ethyl acetate extract of the stem bark of garlic tree (Scorodocarpus borneensis). These findings suggest that S. borneensis stem bark is a valuable sources of bioactive compounds with promising as antioxidant and antibacterial sources.

文摘Apiotherapy has been applied by Georgian people since time immemorial. Also, the sample with a relatively low optical density (Baghdati district) has exhibited antimicrobial activity that is conditioned not by polyphenols, but flavonoids.

文摘The volatile oil of leaves and barks of Calycopteris floribunda was examined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). 52 volatile chemical components in leaves were identified. The antimicrobial assay of oils in the leaves and barks was carried out by disk diffusion method in vitro. The major components (mass fraction) in leaves are caryophyllene oxide (13.79%),n-hexadecanoic acid (11.91%) and β-caryophyllene (10.45%). Ten constituents are identified accounting for about 99.98% of the total volatile oil in the bark. Among these components,n-hexadecanoic acid (59.18%),linolic acid (12.70%) and butyl octyl phthalate (8.21%) are the major constituents. The oils exhibit strong antimicrobial activity and display more potent against bacteria than fungi.
文摘With the increasing interest on natural products discovery, utilization of plant parts which are commonly disregarded is another breakthrough. MIC and MBC of C. pulcherrima ethyl acetate sub-fraction is within the range of 2.5-10 mg/mL.
文摘Antimicrobial activity of extracts of local plants was evaluated, with two strain i.e E. coil and S. aurri (gram positive and gram negative) microorganisms. The in vitro anti bacterial activity was performed by agar disc diffusion method. The most active antibacterial plants were S. trifiliatus and A. mexicana. The significant antibacterial activity of active extracts was compared with the standered, antimicrobics, streptomycin (10 μg/disc). The results obtained in the present study suggest that S. trifoliatus and A. mexicana can be used in treating diseases caused by the test organism.
