Size effects on plastic deformation behaviors in uniaxial micro tension of pure nickel fine wires were investigated experimentally, including flow stress and inhomogeneous deformation behaviors. It is found that with the increase of grain size or the decrease of number of grains across the diameter, the flow stress decreases and inhomogeneous deformation degree increases. When there are less than 9.3 grains across the diameter, the flow stress decreases quickly with the increase of grain size. Then, the flow stress size effect in micro tension of fine wires is revealed by a proposed model by introducing the grain boundary size factor. These results also indicate that both the fracture strain and stress decrease with the increase of grain size. When there are less than 14.7 grains across the diameter, both the fracture strain and stress decrease quickly. This indicates that the inhomogeneous deformation degree in micro tension increases with the decrease of the number of grains across the diameter. The fracture topography tends to be more and more irregular with the decrease of the number of grains across the diameter. Then, the formation mechanism of irregular fracture topography was analyzed considering the inhomogeneous distribution of microstructure when there are a few grains across the diameter. 展开更多

Molecular dynamics(MD) simulations were carried out to study the fracture behaviors of several symmetric tilt grain boundaries in γ-Ti Al bicrystals with <110> misorientation axes. Tensile deformation along direction perpendicular to grain boundary was simulated under various strain rates and temperatures. The results indicate that the relative orientation of the grains and the presence of certain atom units are two critical factors of the interface structure affecting the stress required for dislocation nucleation. Dislocations nucleate and extend at or near the symmetric tilt grain boundaries during the tensile deformation of Σ3(111) 109.5°, Σ9(221) 141.1° and Σ27(552) 148.4° interfaces. For Σ27(115) 31.6° and Σ11(113) 50.5° interfaces, the interfaces fractured directly in a cleavage manner due to no dislocation emitted from the boundary. The tensile fracture mechanisms of the bicrystals are that micro-cracks nucleate at the grain boundary and propagate along the interface. The variance of crack propagation is whether there is accommodation of plastic region at the crack tips. 展开更多

MnFeCoCuNix high-entropy alloys(HEAs)with different Ni contents were fabricated by vacuum induction melting.XRD and SEM−EDS were used to analyze the phase constitution and structure,and the tensile properties of the samples were determined using a universal tensile tester.The results show that the HEAs consist of a dual-phase structure,in which FCC1 phase is rich in Fe and Co,while the FCC2 phase has high contents of Cu and Mn.As Ni content increases,the segregation of Cu decreases,accompanied by the decrease of FCC2 phase.Moreover,the tensile strength of the HEAs increases first and then decreases,and the elongation increases slightly.This is attributed to the combined effect of interface strengthening and solid solution strengthening.The in-situ stretched MnFeCoCuNi0.5 alloy shows obvious neck shrinkage during the tensile fracture process.In the initial deformation stage,the slip lines show different morphologies in the dual-phase structure.However,in the later stage,the surface slip lines become longer and denser due to the redistribution of atoms and the re-separation of the dissolved phase. 展开更多

An AZ31 HP magnesium alloy was laser beam welded in autogenous mode with AZ61 filler using Nd-YAG laser system.Microstructural examination revealed that the laser beam weld metals obtained with or without filler material had an average grain size of about 12 μm.The microhardness and the tensile strength of the weldments were similar to those of the parent alloy.However,the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behaviour of both the weldments assessed by slow strain rate tensile (SSRT) tests in ASTM D1384 solution was found to be slightly inferior to that of the parent alloy.It was observed that the stress corrosion cracks originated in the weld metal and propagated through the weld metal-HAZ regions in the autogenous weldment.On the other hand,in the weldment obtained with AZ61 filler material,the crack initiation and propagation was in the HAZ region.The localized damage of the magnesium hydroxide/oxide film formed on the surface of the specimens due to the exposure to the corrosive environment during the SSRT tests was found to be responsible for the SCC. 展开更多
