Climate change, population growth, and agricultural and industrial development are increasing demand and pressure on Alberta's water supplies, and the risk to the health and well-being of Albertanso its economy and its aquatic ecosystems. An analytic framework was developed to help determine the adaptive capacity of the public health sector and its ability to cope with changes in climate and water quality and quantity. The framework includes possibilities for changes in public health processes, management, inputs, outputs, structure, financing, institutions, and policies. Research gaps and priorities related to impacts on the health sector from changed conditions of climate and water supply are offered.展开更多

Methods: One hundred and twenty cases of lumbar intervertebral disc herniation were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group. Patients in the observation group were treated with tuina plus hydro-acupuncture, and the control group with tuina. Results: The total effective rate was 93.3% and 75.0% respectively in the observation group and the control group, with a significant difference (P〈0.01). Conclusion: Tuina plus hydro-acupuncture has better effects than tuina on the lumbar intervertebral disc herniation.展开更多

Method: Forty inpatients, were divided into acupuncture and Tuina group(experiment group, n= 20), and Tuina and acupoint injection group(controlled group, n= 20) with random number table. Patients in the experimental group were firstly needied Fengchi (GB 20, major acupoint), Taiyang (Ex-HN 5), Baihui (GV 20), Shuaigu (GB 8), and Jiaji (Ex-B 2) around the affected cervical vertebrae, and applied Tuina treatment. Patients in the controlled group were treated with Tuina treatment, and then injection in Fengchi (GB 20) with 500μg of Methycobal. Before and after treatment, all patients in both groups were evaluated with Evaluation Scale for Cervicogenic Headache. Result: After treatment, score of each item of patients in both two groups were enhanced (P〈 0.01), and compared with patients in the controlled group, patients in the experimental group had higher scores of headache(13.1±3.02 vs 10.8±2.36, P〈 0.01), daily life and working (3.3±0.66 vs 2.6±0.79, P 〈 0.01), mental state and social adjustment (3.1±0.85 vs 2.1±0.85, P〈 0.05), and total points (24.6±4.36 vs 20.3±2.53, P〈 0.01). Conclusion: Acupuncture combining with Tuina had better effects than acupoint with Tuina, and could effectively relieve pain, and enhance quality of life and ability of social adjustment in patients with cervicogenic headache.展开更多

Methods: Treatment was given by first acupuncture, then point injection and last Tuina and reposition. It was administered once daily, 6 times as a course and compared with simple Tuina and reposition. Results: Both the effective rate in the clinical treatment and the cure rate in the same period were significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group. Conclusion: A composite treatment by acupuncture and point injection in cooperation with Tuina and reposition is better in curative effect and shorter in the course of treatment than simple Tuina and reposition.展开更多

Methods: 380 patients were randomized into two groups, 290 in the treatment group receiving hydro-acupuncture together with tuina therapy, and 60 in the control group receiving acupuncture therapy plus pharmacotherapy. The therapeutic results were evaluated at the end of the third treatment session. Results: The total effective rate of the treatment group was 95.5%, and that of the control group was 57.8%, and the difference was statistically significant (P〈0.01). Conclusion: Lumbar disk herniation responds well to the treatment of combined hydro-acupuncture and tuina therapy.展开更多

Methods: One hundred and eighty cases of lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion were randomly divided into three groups, treatment group, control group of acupuncture and control group of western medicine, with 60 cases in each group. The therapeutic effects were compared after 20-day treatments. Result: The effective rate was 96.7% in the treatment group, 80.0% in the acupuncture group, and 81.7% in the Western medicine group. There was a statistically significant difference between the treatment group and two control groups (P〈0.05). Conclusion: It is an effective therapy to treat lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion by puncturing the acupuncture points on both sides of the impaired lumbar vertebrae.展开更多

Methods: Brain-benefiting tuina manipulations, medicated bath and music plus exercise therapies were employed in 60 infants with medium or severe brain injuries. The Gesell measurement methods were adopted prior to and 3 months after treatment to evaluate the development quotient (DQ). In addition, the long-term follow-up was made after one and a hall years. Result: The scores of DQ prior to treatment, 3 month after treatment and 1.5 years after treatment were (34.98±28.94), (66.17±14.91) and (75.40±14.69) respectively, showing a marked improvement after 3 months and 1.5 years of treatment (P=0.000). Conclusion: Early intervention using tuina manipulations could enhance the brain development, repair the nerve injury, improve the motion and cognitive ability and prevent the sequela of the nervous system.展开更多
