Supplying many scientific effective computing models, decision support ways and a lot of accurate reliable decision data, the DSS plays a critical part in helping engineering researchers to make correct decisions. Because the period for developing the DSS is relatively shorter, the new way improves the efficiency of establishing DSS greatly. In order to realize direct thrust control instead of conventional sensors-based control for aero-engine, a thrust estimator with high accuracy is designed by using the boosting technique to improve the performance of least squares support vector regression (LSSVR). There exist two distinct features compared with the conven- tional boosting technique: (1) Sampling without replacement is used to avoid numerical instability for modeling LSSVR. (2) To realize the sparseness of LSSVR and reduce the computational complexity, only a subset of the training samples is used to construct LSSVR. Thus, this boosting method for LSSVR is called the boosting sparse LSSVR (BSLSSVR). Finally, simulation results show that BSLSSVR-based thrust estimator can satisfy the requirement of direct thrust control, i.e. , maximum absolute value of relative error of thrust estimation is not more than 5‰. 展开更多

Tanghai County is one of the counties in Tangshan City with the highest saline-alkali degree, with 80% of its land being covered by saline-alkali soils. Through studying landscaping technologies for coastal saline-alkali land in Tanghai County, 3 dominant modes for landscaping engineering in such land were summarized as shallow underground pipe desalination technology, banding soil replacement technology and hole membrane soil replacement technology, which are different in application scope and also in cost (respectively 260, 210 and 170 yuan). 3 landscaping measures were also proposed, including promotion of suitable plant cultivation technologies, application of saline-alkali tolerant plants and biological improvement of soils. To explore economic and practical planting patterns for saline-alkali land, low-cost landscaping tests were conducted from the perspectives of improving landscaping engineering mode and optimizing landscaping measures, and the results showed that it was practical to apply low-cost landscaping patterns, and comprehensive ecological measures should be adopted to realize the sustained utilization of soil. 展开更多

Three approaches have been explored in an attempt to design innovative application strategies for existing biocides: (i) encapsulation of toxins; (ii) combination of toxins; (iii) investigation of the seasonal variation of the species' tolerance to toxins. In this paper, the principles behind these approaches and the major results on each topic are presented. Since the frequency of network security incidents is nonlinear,traditional prediction methods such as ARMA,Gray systems are difficult to deal with the problem.When the size of sample is small,methods based on artificial neural network may not reach a high degree of preciseness.Least Squares Support Vector Machines (LSSVM) is a kind of machine learning methods based on the statistics learning theory,it can be applied to solve small sample and non-linear problems very well.This paper applied LSSVM to predict the occur frequency of network security incidents.To improve the accuracy,it used an improved genetic algorithm to optimize the parameters of LSSVM.Verified by real data sets,the improved genetic algorithm (IGA) converges faster than the simple genetic algorithm (SGA),and has a higher efficiency in the optimization procedure.Specially,the optimized LSSVM model worked very well on the prediction of frequency of network security incidents. 展开更多

Based on the nonlinear failure criterion and the upper bound theorem, the modified tangential technique method was proposed to derive the expression of supporting pressure acting on shallow tunnel. Instead of the same stress state, different normal stresses on element boundaries were used. In order to investigate the influence of different factors on supporting pressures, the failure mechanism was established. The solution of supporting pressure, with different parameters, was obtained by optimization theory. The corresponding failure mechanism and numerical results were presented. In comparison with the results using the single tangential technique method, it is found that the proposed method is effective, and the good agreement shows that the present solution of supporting pressure is reliable. 展开更多

The effect of soil and water conservation (SWC) practices on controlling surface runoff and soil loss was studied in drought prone banana growing areas of Uganda, during the two major rainy seasons of 2014. The study was conducted at two sites-- Ntungamo (Southwest) and Sembabule (Central), with comparable slopes of about 13%-25%. The treatments included mulch, manure, manure + mulch and a control with no conservation. Results indicated that conservation practices of mulch and manure + mulch significantly reduced surface runoff and soil loss by about 72%-85%, when compared to farmers' up-and-down cultivation practice (control). It was also observed that significantly greater amounts of soil loss occurred from manure and control plots than the ones with mulch. Thus, the combination of manure and mulch is recommended for uptake by crop farmers in the study areas, if they are to overcome drought stress and adapt to changes in climate. More research is needed to quantify nutrient losses resulting from runoff under the different SWC techniques. Modeling such effects is essential in assessing the impacts of SWC practices on soil and crop productivity. 展开更多

The earth-rockfill dam is one of the primary dam types in the selection of high dams to be constructed in Western China, since it is characterized by favorable adaptability of the dam foundation; full utilization of local earth, rock, and building-excavated materials; low construction cost; and low cement consumption. Many major technical issues regarding earth-rockfill dams with a height of over 250 m were studied and solved successfully in the construction of the 261.5 m Nuozhadu earth core rockfill dam. This paper describes research achievements and basic conclusions; systematically summarizes the accumulated experiences from the construction of the Nuozhadu Dam and other high earth-rockfill dams; and discusses major technical issues, such as deformation control, seepage control, dam slope stability, safety and control of flood discharging, safety and quality control of dam construction, safety assessments, early warning, and other key technical difficulties. This study also provides a reference and technological support for the future construction of 300 m high earth-rockfill dams. 展开更多

AIM:To describe a modified technique for placement of a tracheobronchial self-expanding plastic stent(SEPS) in patients with benign refractory hypopharyngeal strictures in order to improve dysphagia and allow stricture remodeling.METHODS:A case series of four consecutive patients with complex hypopharyngeal strictures after combinedtherapy for laryngeal cancer,previously submitted to multiple sessions of dilation without lasting improvement,is presented.All patients underwent placement of a small diameter and unflared tracheobronchial SEPS.Main outcome measurements were improvement of dysphagia and avoiding of repeated dilation.RESULTS:The modified introducer system allowed an easy and technically successful deployment of the tracheobronchial Polyflex stent through the stricture.All four patients developed complications related to stent placement.Two patients had stent migration(one proximal and one distal),two patients developed phanryngocutaneous fistulas and all patients with stents in situ for more than 8 wk had hyperplastic tissue growth at the upper end of the stent.Stricture recurrence was observed at 4 wk follow-up after stent removal in all patients CONCLUSION:Although technically feasible,placement of a tracheobronchial SEPS is associated with a high risk of complications.Small diameter stents must be kept in place for longer than 3 mo to allow adequate time for stricture remodeling. 展开更多

For the engineering geology conditions of bad mine roadway roof and floor lithology in extremely weak cemented strata, the best section shape of the roadway is determined from the study of tunnel surrounding rock displacement, plastic zone and stress distribution in rectangular, circle arch and arch wall sections, respectively. Based on the mining depth and thickness of the coal seam, roadway support technology solutions with different buried depth and thickness of coal seam are proposed. Support schemes are amended and optimized in time through monitoring data of the deformation of roadway, roof separation, l-beam bracket, bolt and anchor cable force to ensure the long-term stability and security of the roadway surrounding rock and support structure. The monitoring results show that mine roadway support schemes for different buried depth and section can be adapted to the characteristics of ground pressure and deformation of the surrounding rock in different depth well, effectively control the roadway surrounding rock deformation and the floor heave and guarantee the safety of construction and basic stability of surrounding rock and support structure. 展开更多

In the past several years, support vector machines (SVM) have achieved a huge success in many fields, especially in pattern recognition. But the standard SVM cannot deal with length-variable vectors, which is one severe obstacle for its applications to some important areas, such as speech recognition and part-of-speech tagging. The paper proposed a novel SVM with discriminative dynamic time alignment ( DDTA - SVM) to solve this problem. When training DDTA - SVM classifier, according to the category information of the training sampies, different time alignment strategies were adopted to manipulate them in the kernel functions, which contributed to great improvement for training speed and generalization capability of the classifier. Since the alignment operator was embedded in kernel functions, the training algorithms of standard SVM were still compatible in DDTA- SVM. In order to increase the reliability of the classification, a new classification algorithm was suggested. The preliminary experimental results on Chinese confusable syllables speech classification task show that DDTA- SVM obtains faster convergence speed and better classification performance than dynamic time alignment kernel SVM ( DTAK - SVM). Moreover, DDTA - SVM also gives higher classification precision compared to the conventional HMM.
