We studied 53 of these patients(34 with resected tumors and 19 with unresected tumors) whose tumors could be measured on EUS on at least two successive occasions. The histopathological diagnosis was GIST in 34 patients, leiomyoma in 5, schwannoma in 3, ectopic pancreas in 1, hamartoma in 1, cyst in 1, Brunner's adenoma in 1, and spindle-cell tumor in 7. We retrospectively calculated the DT of GISTs on the basis of the time course of EUS findings to estimate the growth rate of such tumors.RESULTS The DT was 17.2 mo for GIST, as compared with 231.2 mo for leiomyoma, 104.7 mo for schwannoma, 274.9mo for ectopic pancreas, 61.2 mo for hamartoma, 49.0 mo for cyst, and 134.7 mo for Brunner's adenoma. The GISTs were divided into risk classes on the basis of tumor diameters and mitotic figures(Fletcher's classification). The classification was extremely low risk or low risk in 28 patients, intermediate risk in 3, and high risk in 3. DT of GIST according to risk was 24.0 mo for extremely low-risk plus low-risk GIST, 17.1 mo for intermediate-risk GIST, and 3.9 mo for high-risk GIST. DT of GIST was significantly shorter than that of leiomyoma plus schwannoma(P < 0.05), and DT of high-risk GIST was significantly shorter than that of extremely low-risk plus low-risk GIST(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION For GIST, a higher risk grade was associated with a significantly shorter DT. Small SMTs should initially be followed up within 6 mo after detection.展开更多

Methods: Clinical data were retrospectively analyzed in 26 carcinoma patients complicated with MBO, in the Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China, from March 2007 to April 2009. All 26 carcinoma patients with MBO were divided into no groups: the controlling group (CG, routine therapy, 15 patients) and the octreotide group (OG, 11 patients). The octreotide group received routine therapy combined with octreotide (0.3 mg/d) by 24 hours continuously subcutaneous octreotide infusion. The changes of curative effectiveness related to symptoms, the times of recovering exsufflation and defecation, the average drain of gastrointestinal drainage tube, the duration of gastrointestinal drainage tube and the rate of extubation, were observed and compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, remarkable changing rates of MBO related symptoms were 81.8% (9/11) in OG, and 46.7% (7/15) in CG (P 〈 0.05). The 78% of SG and 30% of CG recovered the exsufflation and defecation, and the mean times they needed were 3.2 d and 5.8 d, respectively (P 〈 0.05). The durations of gastrointestinal drainage tube of OG and CG were (5 ± 1.2) d and (10 ±2.3) d, respectively, and the rates of extubation were 54.5% and 20%, respectively. The improvement rate in the octreotide group was better than that in the controlling group and the difference was significant (72.7% and 26.7%, P 〈 0.05). Conclusion; The administration of octreotide in combination with routine treatment can be very effective in the treatment of MBO. It can relieve the symptoms of MBO effectively and improve the quality of life of the end-stage patients. It has provided one kind of new treating thought and method for treatment of malignant bowel obstruction.展开更多

For present investigation, 17 linear type traits were measured, scaled and scored as per the guidelines of International Committee for Animal Recording (2001). The average score point (ASP) under 1-9 point scale score system along with respective observed group for different linear type traits were stature (6.88; taller), chest width (5.30; intermediate), body depth (4.11; intermediate), rump angle (4.27; intermediate), rump width (5.09; intermediate), rear leg set-side view (4.55; intermediate), rear leg set-rear view (5.95; intermediate), foot angle (5.66; intermediate), udder depth (5.71; intermediate), rear udder height (4.90; intermediate), udder balance (5.27; intermediate), udder cleft (3.75; intermediate), fore udder attachment (5.55; intermediate), teat length (3.54; intermediate), fore teat placement (5.33; intermediate), rear teat placement (6.37; intermediate) and teat thickness (2.76; narrow). For most of the traits, ASP which lies near midpoint (i.e. near five) is known to be ideal for dairy type cattle. Moreover, some traits also showed the presence of undesirable ASP. Hence, the traits such as body depth, rump angle, foot angle, udder depth, rear udder height, udder cleft, fore udder attachment, teat length, and teat thickness needs to be improved for improving the production sustainability and herd life of Sahiwal cattle. Thus, present investigation gives explicit clue to incorporate these conformation traits in selection program of this valuable germplasm commonly found in Southern part of Asia (India, Pakistan, Srilanka, etc.).展开更多
