A novel active DC offset cancellation loop is elaborately analyzed and designed to achieve this performance. Using a signal path, a received signal strength indicator (RSSI), based on the piecewise-linear approximation, is realized with a ± 2dB logarithmic accuracy in a 60dB indicating range. The architecture of the LA and RSSI employed is determined by the optimal sensitivity and RSSI accuracy for a specified speed, gain, and power consumption. It consumes 60mW from a single 5V supply. The active area is 1.05mm^2 using standard 5V 0.6μm CMOS technology. 展开更多

An understanding of osteoblast adhesion and proliferation on biomaterials is crucial to optimizing the surfaces of artificial implants used in clinical practice. Polished, anodic oxidation (AO) and micro-arc oxidation (MAO) treated titanium (Ti) plates were used as model surfaces to study the adhesion of MG-63 cells. Cells were monitored for 0.5 and 4 h; faster adhesion and spreading of MG-63 ceils were observed on the AO and MAO modified samples. Stimulated secretion of fibronectin (FN) influenced the adhesion rates. In addition, AO and MAO modified surfaces promoted cell proliferation through apparent up-regulation of FN and integrin a5 transcription via outside-in signaling. This strongly suggests that FN secretion by osteoblasts plays an essential role in enhanced cell adhesion, spreading and proliferation on these modified Ti surfaces. 展开更多

The design and development of the traction controller for electric vehicle is introduced, which is based on the induction motor. This drive is developed by using a digital signal processor at low cost and carried out with the module design concept of both software and hardware. Nevertheless, a scheme of the sensorless direct torque control is based on the developed hardware, of which the feasibility is tested by a trial program. Additionally, both the interface function of the drive hardware and the feasibility of its software are proved to be good by the trail programs. A test motor can run about 18?r/min by a variable frequency program with the space vector pulse width modulation technology, of which the torque is visible pulsatile. In this presentation, based on the theoretical approach, the sensorless torque control is to be studied and applied to electric vehicles, of which the quick, smooth and stable torque response is emphasized because it quite benefits improving the drive performance of electric vehicles. 展开更多

Sensor signals were received and tool wear was predicted in the local system using an ART2 algorithm, while the monitoring result was transferred to the remote system via intemet. The monitoring system was installed at an on-site machine tool for monitoring three kinds of tools cutting titanium alloys, and the tool wear was evaluated on the basis of vigilances, similarities between vibration signals received and the normal patterns previously trained. A number of experiments were carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed system, and the results show that the wears of finishing-cut tools are successfully detected when the moving average vigilance becomes lower than the critical vigilance, thus the appropriate tool replacement time is notified before the breakage. 展开更多

A filtering algorithm and direction identification method are presented for the positioning system of the mid-speed maglev train. Considering the special structure of the mid-speed maglev train, the ground position estimation method is adopted for its traction system. As the train is running, the induction loop-cable receives the signal sent by the on-board antenna to detect the position and direction of the train. But the height of the on-board antenna relative to the loop-cable is highly vulnerable to the change of the suspension height and the magnetic field produced by the traction during traveling, which may lead to amplitude fluctuation of the received signal. Consequently, the position estimation may be inaccurate. Therefore, a discrete second-order nonlinear trackdifferentiator is proposed based on the boundary characteristic curves, and the new differentiator could also extract the running direction of the train for the traction system. The experimental results show that the tracking differentiator can effectively filter out the signal interference and can provide accurate direction signal. 展开更多

Electroencephalogram (EEG) is an efficient tool in exploring human brains. It plays a very important role in diagnosis of disorders related to epilepsy and development of new interaction techniques between machines and human beings,namely,brain-computer interface (BCI). The purpose of this review is to illustrate the recent researches in EEG processing and EEG-based BCI. First,we outline several methods in removing artifacts from EEGs,and classical algorithms for fatigue detection are discussed. Then,two BCI paradigms including motor imagery and steady-state motion visual evoked potentials (SSMVEP) produced by oscillating Newton's rings are introduced. Finally,BCI systems including wheelchair controlling and electronic car navigation are elaborated. As a new technique to control equipments,BCI has promising potential in rehabilitation of disorders in central nervous system,such as stroke and spinal cord injury,treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and development of novel games such as brain-controlled auto racings. 展开更多

In this letter, an adaptive method t.o detect imbalance parameters is derived by means of evaluating channel errors from the received signal .sequences. No matter how the bias degree of the gain and phase errors in I/Q channels are. the proposed adaptive scheme can obtain good calibration results. And the inquired calculations are only a few multiplications and additions. No need of a special test signal, the introduced method is simple to implement and easy to operate. 展开更多

AIM: To investigate the role of TIP30 in apoptotic signal pathway in hepatoblastoma cells and to provide a basis for TIP30 as a gene therapy candidate in the regression of hepatoblastoma cells. METHODS: Apoptosis of human hepatoblastoma cell lines HepG2 (p53 wild), Hep3B (p53 null) and PLC/RPF/5 (p53 mutant) infected with Ad-TIP30 (bearing a wild type human Tip30 gene) were analyzed and p53, Bax and Bcl-xl expression levels were compared among these cells. MTT assay, DNA fragmentation, in situ 3' end labeling of DNA, annexin-V FITC staining were used to detect cell death and apoptosis in cells at various time intervals subsequent to infection, and to determine whether TIP30 had an effect on the expression levels of some apoptosis-related gene products such as Bax, p53 and Bcl-xl. A similar time course experiment was performed by Western blotting. RESULTS: In MTT assay, the viability of HepG2 cells decreased significantly from 99.7% to 10% and displayed more massive cell death within 5-8 d than Hep3B and PLC/ RPF/5 cells, with their viability decreased from 97.8% to 44.3% and 98.1% to 50.4%, respectively. In annexin-V FITC assay, the percentage of apoptosis cells in HepG2 cells was two to three-fold higher than that in control cells (infected with Ad-GFP), two-fold higher than that in Hep3B cells and 1.4-fold higher than that in PLC/RPF/5 cells 36 h after infection, respectively. Moreover, in HepG2 cells, the p53 began to increase 6-8 h after infection, reaching a maximum level between 8 and 12 h after infection and then dropped. Bax showed a similar increase in the cells as p53 reached the maximum at 8-12 h and subsequently decreased. Interestingly, Bcl-xl protein levels were down regulated during 24 to 36 h after Ad-TIP30 infection. In contrast, ectopic expression of TIP30 in Hep3B and PLC/ RPF/5 cells had no effect on the regulation of Bax expression, but had an effect on Bcl-xl levels. In comparison with HepG2 cells, these data suggested that up-regulation of p53 levels by TIP30 might be a pre-requisite for Bax and Bax/Bcl-xl ratio increase. We hypothesied that TIP30 might regulate Bax gene partly through p53, which sensitizes cells to apoptosis by involving a p53 apoptosis signal transduction pathway. CONCLUSION: TIP30 plays an important role in predisposing hepatoblastoma cells to apoptosis through regulating expression levels of these genes. Ad-TIP30 carrying exogenous TIP30-anti-tumor genes may be regarded as a potential candidate for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. 展开更多

We collected centric diatom Stephanopyxis palmeriana samples in coastal waters of Xiamen for charac- teristic red light/far red light (R/FR) phytochrome reactions to identify its photoreceptor in the course of sexual repro- duction. The result showed that pre-illumination of 2-3h red light before darkness could induce sexualization of S. palmeriana, while the follow-up illumination of far red light could reverse the effect of red light, which is a featured reaction of phytochrome. The Southern Dot Blot was carried out to identify the type of phytochrome that induces the sexualization. The result also showed high homogeneity of DNA fragment of S. palmeriana with phyB, but phyA. This means the photoreceptor in the process of sexual reproduction of S. palmeriana is phytochrome B (phyB). 展开更多

The protein plays a very important role in early organ development and maturation. Consistent with the function of the protein in transcriptional regulation and pre-mRNA splicing, p68 was found to predominately localize in the cell nucleus. However, recent experiments demon- strate a transient cytoplasmic localization of the protein. We report here that p68 shuttles between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. The nucleocytoplasmic shuttling of p68 is mediated by two nuclear localization signal and two nuclear exporting signal sequence elements. Our experiments reveal that p68 shuttles via a classical RanGTPase-dependent pathway. 展开更多

The qualitative and quantitative assessment of gas flow has become increasingly relevant in the use of everyday systems. The micro flow sensor, developed by Innovative Sensor Technology AG (Switzerland), is by principle a calorimetric flow sensor produced as a micro system on a glass substrate by means of photolithography and glass etching technology. These structures are arranged as a platinum micro heater and sensor in a Wheatstone bridge. The subsequent etching process produces an exposed area of polyimide membrane that is only a few microns thick and includes the resistive sensor structure as the active area. In addition, the RTD (resistance temperature detector) technology included on the sensor allows for the implementation of a variety of electronic biasing and signal processing modes. Since the sensor can be powered and the bridge can be measured in both CTA (constant temperature anemometer) and calorimetric mode, new possibilities are presented for both low and high flow rates with regard to temperature compensation, self-calibration and self-monitoring. 展开更多

By eliminating the correlation peak loss caused by ultrahigh Doppler frequency and its rate-of-change offset,the proposed method improves the acquisition sensitivity by increasing the non-coherent accumulation time. The validity of the algorithm is proved by theoretical analysis and simulation results. It is shown that signals with a carrier- to-noise ratio as low as 39 dBHz can be captured with high performance when the Doppler frequency is up to ±1 MHz and its rate-of-change is up to ±200 kHz/s. 展开更多
