A 3-layer structure EO polymer modulator is prepared for the poling. The poling setups and procedures of these two different methods are given. It is found that a well-controlled precure step is very critical, otherwise it will result in either lower poling efficiency or damaged film. Experimental results show that contact poling does not create severe surface damage as corona poling and poling voltage is much lower, but corona poling provides higher EO effect than contact poling. Besides, contact poling can provide poling size as large as the substrate size.展开更多

The results demonstrate a strong dependence of the interfacial spin polarization on the contact configuration, where the sign of spin polarization may vary from positive to negative with the change of contact configuration. By analyzing the projected density of states, an interracial orbital hybridization between the 3d orbital of the nickel atom and the sp3 hybridized orbital of the sulfur atom is observed. We also simulated the interracial adsorption in mechanically controllable break junction experiments. The magne- toresistance obtained from Julliere model is about 27% based on the calculated interracial spin polarization, which is consistent with experimental measurement.展开更多

The arc energy and arc duration were investigated, the surface morphologies of eroded anode and cathode were characterized, the mass changes after arc-erosion tests were determined, and the material transfer behavior was discussed as well. The results show that contact force has a significant effect on the arc energy, arc duration and erosion morphology, but has no impact on the material transfer mode. However, electrode gap not only influences the arc energy, arc duration and surface morphology, but also changes the material transfer mode. At 1 mm, the material transfers from anode to cathode. Nevertheless, an opposite mode presents at 4 mm, which is from cathode to anode.展开更多

A synthetic circuit that can supply a DC recovery voltage after current zero was used to study multiple restrike phenomena in switching. Some key factors including breaking current, clearance between open contacts, electrode structure and contact material, which may affect restrike characteristics, were studied. Under various clearances, the statistical probability of restrike was obtained. As a result, the best scope of clearance between open contacts was found. The performance of CuCr50/50 and CuCr75/25 material were compared. Two kinds of electrode structures, namely 1/2 coil structure and cup-shaped axial magnetic structure, were tested. After a high-current interruption, conditioning effoct was realized and the probability of restrike decreased.展开更多

It is well known that stack performance not only depends on cell resistance but also on the electrical conductivity of the various applied contact and protective layers. Various layers have been tested under simulated SOFC conditions, and results have shown that the lowest ASR value, about 3 mΩ.cm2, was obtained for an LSM (2) contact layer. A significantly higher resistance was found for the combined contact and protective layer LCC10-Mn3O4, being around 37 mΩ.cm2 Related to the various tests, the total ASR of an F-design stack, developed by Forschungszentrum Jiilich, under ideal conditions can be estimated. In this case the ASR value was calculated as the sum of that of the LCC10-Mn3O4 layer and the formed oxide scale due to oxidation of Crofer22APU. Contacting resistance at the anode side was considered negligible. When differences in the ASR values occurred when compared with that from current-voltage measurements performed with real SOFC stacks, this can be explained by the limited contact area between interconnect and cathode. These results can be used to model the influence of various applied layers and different geometric contact areas on the overall ASR as determined from performance measurements with SOFC stacks.展开更多

In this method, several or even dozens of parallel micro-flow channels ranging from 100 μm to 500 μm in width can be produced simultaneously. In this work, we attempt to reduce the contact resistance in graphene transistors and further explore the resistance limit between graphene and metal contacts. The Pd/graphene contact resistance at room temperature is reduced below the 100 Ω·μm level both on mechanically exfoliated and chemical-vapor-deposition graphene by adopting high-purity palladium and high-quality graphene and controlling the fabrication process to not contaminate the interface. After excluding the parasitic series resistances from the measurement system and electrodes, the retrieved contact resistance is shown to be systematically and statistically less than 100 Ω·μm, with a minimum value of 69 Ω·μm, which is very close to the theoretical limit. Furthermore, the contact resistance shows no clear dependence on temperature in the range of 77-300 K; this is attributed to the saturation of carrier injection efficiency between graphene and Pd owing to the high quality of the graphene samples used, which have a sufficiently long carrier mean-free-path.展开更多

The density of triboelectric charges generated on contact surfaces between two distinct materials is a critical factor for dictating the output power. We demonstrate an approach to effectively tune the triboelectric properties of materials by taking advantage of the dipole moment in polarized polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), leading to substantial enhancement of the output power density of the TENG.
