But lack of a suitable juice extraction device. Milling tandem is unsuitable for small scale production due to high investment and energy consumption. A new extraction system using light pressure (LPE) is proposed. Compared with milling tandem, 35%-45% of investment and 25% of energy can be saved. Again, compared with diffusion, which need to be kept at 75℃ for one hour. While the LPE system need only 5 minutes without keeping temperature. In China, Hua Jian Sugar mill had undertaken a production trial of 150 t/d with LPE in 1974/75 crop. 8810 tons cane were processed. Due to poor disintegration of cane by using a ‘grinding pump’, degree of disintegration or preparation index (PI) is only 85%, hence extraction rate only 92%. But when PI controlled to 86%-87% extraction reached 94%. During the 1970’s, a disintegrator called ‘saw shredder’ was used in some Chinese mills with PI of 94%, energy consumption 3.5 kWh/t. But only for mills under 200 tcd. In case the saw shredder could be used together with the 150 tcd LPE system of Hua Jian mill, extraction rate could be 97%, 2% higher than milling tandem. If juice extracted could be made into spirit and transfer to alcohol plant, profit could be further increased. This production system would be a privilege for raising the income of Chinese farmers.展开更多
