In this paper, an improved LPP method, referred to as sparse kernel locality preserving projection (SKLPP) is proposed for nonlinear process fault detection. Based on the LPP model, kernel trick is applied to construct nonlinear kernel model. Furthermore, for reducing the computational complexity of kernel model, feature samples selection technique is adopted to make the kernel LPP model sparse. Lastly, two monitoring statistics of SKLPP model are built to detect process faults. Simulations on a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) system show that SKLPP is more effective than LPP in terms of fault detection performance.展开更多

In this paper, an effective discrete-time adaptive control method is proposed for Wiener nonlinear systems with uncertainties. The parameterization model is derived based on the inverse of the nonlinear function block. The adaptive control method is motivated by self-tuning control and is derived from a modified Clarke criterion function, which considers both tracking properties and control efforts. The uncertain parameters are updated by a recursive least squares algorithm and the control law exhibits an explicit form. The closed-loop system stability properties are discussed. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the obtained results, two groups of simulation examples including an application to composition control in a continuously stirred tank reactor(CSTR) system are studied.展开更多

In the current investigation, artificial neural network(ANN) technique was employed to predict the microhardness of AA6061 friction stir welded plates. Specimens were welded employing triangular and tapered cylindrical pins. The effects of thread and conical shoulder of each pin profile on the microhardness of welded zone were studied using tow ANNs through the different distances from weld centerline. It is observed that using conical shoulder tools enhances the quality of welded area. Besides, in both pin profiles threaded pins and conical shoulders increase yield strength and ultimate tensile strength. Mean absolute percentage error(MAPE) for train and test data sets did not exceed 5.4% and 7.48%, respectively. Considering the accurate results and acceptable errors in the models' responses, the ANN method can be used to economize material and time.展开更多

The liquid-phase diffusion effect on the reaction process was eliminated by adjusting the stirring rate. The results showed that the two-step reaction followed a tetrahedral mechanism and conformed to second-order reaction kinetics. Nucleophilic attack on the carbonyl carbon afforded an intermediate, containing a tetrahedral carbon center. The intermediate ultimately decomposed by elimination of the leaving group, affording isopropyl palmitate. The experimental data were analyzed at different temperatures by the integral method. The kinetic equations of the each step were deduced, and the activation energy and frequency factor were obtained. Experiments were performed to verify the feasibility of kinetic equations, and the result showed that the kinetic equations were reliable. This study could be very signi ficant to both industrial application and determining the continuous production of isopropyl palmitate.展开更多
