为了探究结构参数和运行工况参数对迷宫-刷式密封泄漏流动和摩擦传热特性的影响规律,采用数值求解三维Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS)方程耦合有限元分析(FEA)的方法,数值研究了围栏高度h_(b),前夹板与转子间隙h_(f),转速n和压... 为了探究结构参数和运行工况参数对迷宫-刷式密封泄漏流动和摩擦传热特性的影响规律,采用数值求解三维Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS)方程耦合有限元分析(FEA)的方法,数值研究了围栏高度h_(b),前夹板与转子间隙h_(f),转速n和压比R_(p)对迷宫-刷式密封泄漏流动、温度分布以及转子热应力的作用规律。研究结果表明:刷丝束与转子的摩擦生热使得泄漏流量显著降低;R_(p)和h_(b)对接触式迷宫-刷式密封封严性能有着决定性作用。R_(p)和n升高使得摩擦热流密度和转子最高温升显著增大。h_(b)增大使得摩擦热流密度和转子最高温升先增大后减小;h_(f)增大使得摩擦热流密度先略微增大后减小,转子最高温升逐渐减小;转子最高温升随h_(b)或h_(f)增大的变化趋势取决于摩擦热流密度增幅和气流冷却作用增强幅度的相对大小。转子最高热应力随R_(p)和h_(b)升高而增大,随h_(b)增大而先增大后减小,随h_(f)增大而减小。 展开更多

Thin copper sheets as marker material were embedded into weld path of 2024 aluminium alloy plates and their final position after friction stir welding was examined by metallographic techniques. Referring to the visualized material flow patterns, a three-dimensional model was developed to conduct the numerical simulation of the temperature profile and plastic material flow in friction stir welding. The calculated velocity contour of plastic flow in close proximity of the tool is generally consistent with the visualized results. As the tool rotation speed increases at a constant tool travel speed, the material flow near the pin gets stronger. The predicted shape and size of the weld nugget zone match with the experimentally measured ones. 展开更多

An experimental investigation on the boiling heat transfer and frictional pressure drop of R245fa in a 7 mm horizontal micro-fin tube was performed.The results show that in terms of flow boiling heat transfer characteristics,boiling heat transfer coefficient(HTC)increases with mass velocity of R245fa,while it decreases with the increment of saturation temperature and heat flux.With the increase of vapor quality,HTC has a maximum and the corresponding vapor quality is about 0.4,which varies with the operating conditions.When vapor quality is larger than the transition point,HTC can be promoted more remarkably at higher mass velocity or lower saturation temperature.Among the four selected correlations,KANDLIKAR correlation matches with 91.6%of experimental data within the deviation range of±25%,and the absolute mean deviation is 11.2%.Also,in terms of frictional pressure drop characteristics of flow boiling,the results of this study show that frictional pressure drop increases with mass velocity and heat flux of R245fa,while it decreases with the increment of saturation temperature.MULLER-STEINHAGEN-HECK correlation shows the best prediction accuracy for frictional pressure drop among the four widely used correlations.It covers 84.1%of experimental data within the deviation range of±20%,and the absolute mean deviation is 10.1%. 展开更多

Heat transfer,friction factor and thermal enhancement factor characteristics of a double pipe heat exchanger fitted with square-cut twisted tapes(STT) and plain twisted tapes(PTT) are investigated experimentally using the water as working fluid.The tapes(STT and PTT) have three twist ratios(y=2.0,4.4 and 6.0) and the Reynolds number ranges from 2000 to 12000.The experimental results reveal that heat transfer rate,friction factor and thermal enhancement factor in the tube equipped with STT are significantly higher than those fitted with PTT. The additional disturbance and secondary flow in the vicinity of the tube wall generated by STT are higher compared to that induced by the PTT is referred as the reason for better performance.Over the range considered,the Nusselt number,friction factor and thermal enhancement factor in a tube with STT are respectively,1.03 to 1.14,1.05 to 1.25 and 1.02 to 1.06 times of those in tube with PTT.An empirical correlation is also formulated to match with experimental data of Nusselt number and friction factor for STT and PTT. 展开更多

This paper deals with the experimental investigation on Nusselt number,friction factor and thermal en-hancement factor of a double pipe heat exchanger equipped with twisted tape consisting wire nails(WN-TT) and plain twisted tapes(P-TT) with three different twist ratios of y 2.0,4.4 and 6.0. Test runs are conducted using the water as the working fluid with Reynolds number range between 2000 and 12000 for WN-TT and P-TT. It is found that Nusselt number,friction factor and thermal enhancement factor in the tube equipped with WN-TT appreciably higher than those in the tube fitted with P-TT and plain tube. Over the range considered Nusselt number,friction factor and thermal enhancement factor in a tube with WN-TT are respectively,1.08 to 1.31,1.1 to 1.75 and 1.05 to 1.13 times of those in tube with P-TT. The better performance of WN-TT is due to combined effects of the follow-ing factors:(1) common swirling flow generated by P-TT,(2) additional turbulence offered by the wire nails. The paper described experimental investigation of heat transfer and single-phase pressure drop through tubes with different rotor-assembled strands inserted in the Reynolds number range of 800-9000 with lubricant as working fluid. In the experiment, fixed mounts were employed to eliminate the entrance effect. The experimental results showed that the employment of fixed mounts led to a visible bias of friction factor in the laminar regime while it could not affect the Nusselt numbers significantly. Experiment for the tube inserted with rotors-assembled strand showed remarkable improvement for heat transfer with the Nusselt number increased by 200%-225% in the laminar regime and 125%-160% in the transitional regime. Meanwhile, the friction factor increased inevitably by 200%-300% within the same range of Reynolds number. The comparison of different rotor-assembled strands in-serted tubes and plain tube showed that the heat transfer benefited from the increase of the diameter of rotor-assembled strand with the same lead and the decrease of the lead of rotor-assembled strand, so does the friction factor. Based on experimental data and thorough multivariant linear normal regression method, the correlations of average Nusselt number and friction factor are established. 展开更多

A micro-sized tube heat exchanger(MTHE) was fabricated, and its performance in heat transfer and pressure drop was experimentally studied. The single-phase forced convection heat transfer correlation on the sides of the MTHE tubes was proposed and compared with previous experimental data in the Reynolds number range of 500—1 800. The average deviation of the correlation in calculating the Nusselt number was about 6.59%. The entrance effect in the thermal entrance region was discussed. In the same range of Reynolds number, the pressure drop and friction coefficient were found to be considerably higher than those predicted by the conventional correlations. The product of friction factor and Reynolds number was also a constant, but much higher than the conventional. 展开更多

Presents a set of data for flow and heat transfer of finned-tube bundle under the condition of high air flow velocity. Air flow and heat transfer over a 4 × 4 ( columns × rows) finned-tube heat exchanger with rectangular fins was investigated experimentally in a wind tunnel with constant wall temperatures condition. The air flow velocity based on the minimum flow cross-section area over flow channel ranged from 13.8 to 50. 2 m/s, the heal transfer rate ranged from 21.8 to47. 1 kW, and the air temperatures increase ranged from 10. 9 to 19. 8 ℃. The present results were compared with results calculated from correlations proposed by CSPE. For air flow velocity less than 25 m/s, these two results of heat transfer agreed well with each other, whereas for larger velocity, our test data disagreed with the CSPE correlations. For the friction factor, present data are much higher than the predicted results in the whole range. Finally, correlations for friction factors and heat transfer coefficients are DrODosed based on the experimental results. 展开更多

Amongst these fin types the serrated fins assume lot of importance due to its enhanced thermo-hydraulic performance. Thermo-hydraulic design of CHEs (Compact heat exchangers) is strongly dependent upon the predicted/measured dimensionless performance (Colburnj factor and Fanning friction vs. Reynolds number) of heat transfer surfaces. This paper describes the numerical analysis to study the heat transfer coefficient and friction factor of Serrated fins in water medium. CFD (Computational fluid dynamics) methodology has been used to develop the single phase water heat transfer coefficient and friction factor correlations for serrated fins using ANSYS Fluent 14.5. The results are compared with previous air-cooled models and experimental results of water. The water cooled CFD analysis results shows that the Prandtl number has a large effect on the Nusselt number of the serrated fin geometry. Finally, the generalized correlations are developed for serrated fins taking all geometrical parameters into account. This numerical estimation can reduce the number of tests/experiments to a minimum for similar applications. 展开更多

Effects of insertion of tandem wire coil elements used as turbulator on heat transfer and turbulent flow friction characteristics in a uniform heat-flux square duct are experimentally investigated in this work. The experiment is conducted for turbulent flow with the Reynolds number from 4000 to 25000. The wire coil element is inserted into the duct with a view to generating a swirl flow that assists to wash up the flow trapped in the duct corners and then increase the heat transfer rate of the test duct. Apart from the full-length coil, 1D and 2D length coil elements placed in tandem inside the duct with various free-space lengths are introduced to reduce the friction loss. The results obtained from these wire coil element inserts are also compared with those from the smooth duct. The experimental results reveal that the use of wire coil inserts for the full-length coil, 1D and 2D coil elements with a short free-space length leads to a considerable increase in heat transfer and friction loss over the smooth duct with no insert. The full-length wire coil provides higher heat transfer and friction factor than the tandem wire coil elements under the same operating conditions. Also, performance evaluation criteria to assess the real benefits in using the wire coil insert into the square duct are determined. 展开更多

This paper presents results of a numerical investigation of heat transfer and flow pattern characteristics of a channel with repeated ribs on one broad wall. Numerical computations are performed for seven ribs placed on the bottom wall of a channel for Reynolds numbers ranging from 10,000 to 30,000. The newly modified ribs (the ones with convex pointing upstream/downstream rib, wedge pointing upstream/downstream rib, concave pointing upstream/downstream rib and also concave-concave rib as well as convex-concave rib), are proposed for simulation with prospect to reduce flow separation and extend reattachment area compared to the unmodified square rib. The numerical results are reported in forms of flow structure, temperature field, turbulent kinetic energy, Nusselt number, friction factor and thermal enhancement factor. The results indicate the rib with concave-concave surfaces efficiently suppresses flow separation bubble in the corner of the rib and induces large recirculation zone over those of the others, hence giving the highest Nusselt number and friction factor. On the other hand, the one with convex-concave surface provides the lowest friction factor with moderate Nusselt number. Due to the prominent effect of its low friction factor, the rib with convex-concave surface offers the highest thermal enhancement factor of 1.19. 展开更多
