There are some limitations when we apply conventional methods to analyze the massive amounts of seismic data acquired with high-density spatial sampling since processors usually obtain the properties of raw data from common shot gathers or other datasets located at certain points or along lines. We propose a novel method in this paper to observe seismic data on time slices from spatial subsets. The composition of a spatial subset and the unique character of orthogonal or oblique subsets are described and pre-stack subsets are shown by 3D visualization. In seismic data processing, spatial subsets can be used for the following aspects: (1) to check the trace distribution uniformity and regularity; (2) to observe the main features of ground-roll and linear noise; (3) to find abnormal traces from slices of datasets; and (4) to QC the results of pre-stack noise attenuation. The field data application shows that seismic data analysis in spatial subsets is an effective method that may lead to a better discrimination among various wavefields and help us obtain more information. 展开更多

The lignite samples collected from Giral lignite field of Barmer basin have been subjected to petrological investigation. The data generated has been discussed to understand the evolution of the paleomires of these lignites. The present study reveals that these low rank C coals are chiefly composed of huminite group macerals, mainly telohuminite and detrohuminite, while liptinite and inertinite group macerals occur in subordinate amounts. Not much variation in the maceral composition from Seam-I to Seam-VIII has been observed. Barmer lignites are characterized by a very high GI (〉10) and moderate TPI indicating topogenous mire in the basin which was permanently flooded. The GI and TPI values and the petrography-based facies critical models indicate that these lignites originated mostly under wet forest swamp to clastic marsh having telmatic to limno-telmatic conditions with a moderate rate of subsidence and a very slow fall in ground water table. Further, the GWI and VI values are suggestive of mesotrophic to rheotrophic hydrological conditions having the dominance of herbaceous to marginal aquatic vegetation. There were spells of periodic drowning of peat especially during the formation of Seam-VII. Moderately high concentration of calcium in these lignites along with the presence of framboidal pyrite indicate enhanced sulphate-reducing bacterial activity present in carbonate and sulphate-rich waters in the basin during peat formation. 展开更多

Distribution of Dominant Zooplankton Species Along a Latitudinal Gradient in China Sea During Spring 被引量:4

Though China possesses a vast coastal area in northwestern Pacific, studies on the latitudinal dominant species gradient are rare. We collected zooplankton samples from Haizhou Bay(34.56?–35.19?N, 119.51?–120.30?E), Yueqing Bay(28.14?–28.38?N, 121.10?–121.21?E) and Dongshan Bay(23.65?–23.90?N, 117.45?–117.60?E) in May 2012 and May 2013 to preliminarily characterize the latitudinal dominant species distribution. All the samples were collected vertically using a 0.505 mm mesh plankton net with 0.8 m in mouth diameter from bottom to surface. Calanus sinicus, Aidanosagitta crassa, Labidocera euchaeta, Zonosagitta nagae, Acartia pacifica and Paracalanus parvus were found to be dominant. C. sinicus was the most dominant species and the unique one occurred in all three bays. With latitude decreasing, both the abundance and proportion of C. sinicus declined sharply. Cluster analysis showed that the 6 dominant species could be divided into 3 groups, based on their occurrences in the three bays. Our results suggested that the distribution of dominant species along the coast of China has a significant latitudinal gradient. C. sinicus which widely distributes in the coastal water of the northwestern Pacific can well adapt to the temperature at different latitudes. The high abundance in Haizhou Bay indicated that C. sinicus was an exemplary warm-temperate species, and more commonly occurs in the north of China seas. The ecological characteristics of dominant species change from warm-temperate type in high-latitudinal bays to warm water type in low-latitudinal bays. 展开更多

We consider an iterative phase synchronization scheme based on maximum a posteriori probability algorithm.In classical approaches,the phase noise estimation model considers one sample per symbol at the channel and receiver.However,information theoretic studies suggested use of more than one sample per symbol at the channel and receiver for achieving higher performance.In this article,a soft-information aided iterative receiver is derived,which uses off-the-shelf blocks for detection and demodulation by keeping the complexity of the receiver acceptable.We consider here two samples per symbols at the channel and receiver in a pragmatic paradigm.It is shown that phase noise estimation can be significantly improved at the expense of modest processing overhead.Simulation results are presented for low-density parity check coded quadrature amplitude modulations.Our results show a significant performance improvement for strong phase noise values compared to classical receiver approaches. 展开更多

Samples of fog water collected in the area of Guangzhou during February, March and April of 2005 are used in this work to study the chemical composition of fog water in polluting fog there. Three typical episodes of polluting fog are analyzed in terms of ionic concentration and their possible sources. It is found that the concentration of various ions in fog water is much higher than those in rainwater. Fog not only blocks visual range but contains liquid particles that result in high degree of pollution and are very harmful to human health. SO4= is the anion with the highest concentration in fog water, followed by NO3-. For the cation, Ca++ and NH4+ are the highest in concentration. It is then known that rainwater is more acidic than fog water, indicating that ionic concentration of fog water is much higher than that of rainwater, but there are much more buffering materials in fog water, like NH4+ and Ca++. There is significant enrichment of Ca++, SO4=, and Mg++ in fog water. In the Guangzhou area, fog water from polluting fog is mainly influenced continental environment and human activity. The episodes of serious fog pollution during the time have immediate relationships with the presence of abundant water vapor and large amount of polluting aerosol particles. 展开更多

The purpose of this procedure was to optimize and improve a method that used for the determination of arsenic (Ⅲ) and arsenic (Ⅴ) in biological and environmental samples. The method is based on hydride generation and atomic absorption spectrometry. For both As (Ⅲ) and As (Ⅴ) the parameters such as NaBH4, HCI concentration, and pH were optimized. Absorption signal of As (Ⅴ) was approximately 17% of As (Ⅲ) signal. Therefore, for estimation of As (Ⅲ) and As (Ⅴ) concentrations in various samples the difference between the absorbance obtained for arsenic, without and with previous treatment of samples with potassium iodide (KI), can be applied. The calibration graphs were linear (r〉0.99), and the detection limits of the method based on three times the standard deviation of the blank were 0.14 and 0.64 μL^-1 for As (Ⅲ) and As (Ⅴ), respectively. The relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) of measurements was less than 10%. As a means of checking performance method, water samples were spiked with known concentrations of both As (Ⅲ) and As (Ⅴ), and recovery above 94% was obtained. The proposed method was applied successfully to determine inorganic As (Ⅲ) and As (Ⅴ) in various environmental and total As in biological samples. 展开更多

Silicon isotope analysis traditionally uses a standard-sample bracketing (SSB) method that relies upon greater instrument stability than can be consistently expected. The following proposed method reduces the level of instrumental stability required for the analysis process and provides a valid solution for high-precision and accurate studies of Si isotopic compositions. Rock samples were dissolved by using alkali fusion and acidification. Silicon isotopes were purified with an ion exchange resin. Interfering peaks for isotopes were separated by using a Nu Plasma 1700 multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MS) system in high-resolution mode (M/AM 〉 8000 RP). Two magnesium isotopes (25Mg and 26Mg) and three silicon isotopes (28Si, 29Si, and 3;Si) were analyzed in the same data collection cycle. Mg isotopes were used as an internal standard to calibrate the mass discrimination effects in MS analysis of Si isotopes in combination with the SSB method in order to reduce the effects of MS interference and instrumental mass dis- crimination on the accuracy of measurements. The conventional SSB method without the Mg internal standard and the proposed SSB method with Mg calibration delivered consistent results within two standard deviations. When Mg was used as an internal standard for calibration, the analysis precision was better than 0.05 %0 amu. 展开更多

What do coaches want to know about sports-related concussion?A needs assessment study

Purpose: This study aims to identify the concussion-related training and education needs of Gaelic Athletic Association(GAA) coaches in Ireland,as well as the preferred method of concussion education delivery.Methods: We used a self-report questionnaire to collect data from a convenience sample of 108 GAA coaches in Ireland. Data were captured on(1) informational needs and desires,(2) preferred methods of delivery, and(3) concussion practices and procedures. Questionnaires were completed electronically from June 3 rd–September 29 th, 2015.Results: Coaches indicated that they were most interested in receiving information about the(1) signs and symptoms of concussion,(2) assessment of concussion, and(3) return-to-play guidelines. Over two-thirds of participants indicated that in-person training would be the most effective mode of delivery of concussion education for this population. Additionally, only 10% coaches reported that before the start of the season they talked to their athletes about concussion management and safety, and this was more common among coaches who reported being formally educated about concussion.Conclusion: Our findings reveal a disconnect between the concussion education needs and the education that is currently provided to GAA coaches, in terms of content and delivery modality. Our results suggest a need for a multifaceted approach to concussion education, tailored to the needs and learning preferences of the target population. 展开更多

When Elizabethan's were trained to read and write, the handwriting they first learned was "Secretary" (or "Secretarial") hand, reflecting the style used by monks and scribes well back into the Middle Ages. Only in the mid-1500s did an alternative hand called "Italic" (or "Italianate") slowly begin to be adopted as a second hand, reflecting handwriting used on the continent, and Italic was rarer than Secretary until well after 1600. Today, extant Elizabethan handwriting samples normally show each person used both hand styles, and where only one hand is extant for a given person, it is usually a Secretary hand. Thus, it's a surprise that two noblemen, the great William Cecil, Lord Burghley, and his son-in-law Edward DeVere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, are each assumed to have only Italic hand samples among their voluminous collections of handwriting. Did they not learn and never use Secretary hands, or is it that any Secretary hands in their documents are simply presumed to be written by clerks? This article begins with questioning whether the two men really were limited to Italic hands, fmds a few plausible Secretary hand samples for one of them (possibly for both), reconstructs a hypothetical Italic alphabet for him, and nominates many candidate manuscripts (MSS, singular MS) for having been written or contributed to by him, some of which may be relevant to Shakespeare studies. Sustainability on farms is a challenge to competitiveness in the globalized market. In this scenario, due to the strong environmental, economic and social appeal, crop-livestock-forest integration systems have been considered as the future of agriculture. Regarding the economic approach, this system is based on the diversification of income generating activities, with revenue entry at different times, rationalization of resource use and reduction of risk of financial losses. Thus, the purpose of this work was to carry out the economic analysis of a crop-livestock-forest integration system, located at Boa Vereda's farm, in the municipality of Cachoeira Dourada in the state of Goi^is in the central-west region of Brazil. The system was composed of the following traditional crops of the region: soybean, corn, pasture, beef cattle and eucalyptus. The technical coefficients and the prices used for economic evaluation were obtained from the experimental unit and from the local market when crops were harvested in 2016/2017. The economic indicators used to assess economic viability were the net present value (NPV) and the equivalent annual uniform value (EAUV). The results showed a return greater than the opportunity cost of the land, showing the attractiveness of the crop-livestock-forest integration system. Thus, this system represents an economically viable alternative that, among other benefits, allows the diversification of its sources of income, with a reduction of risk. 展开更多

In order to evaluate seasonal and regional variations in precipitation in Niigata City, 65 hourly precipitation samples were collected from October 2009 to June 2011 including two snow events. In this work, major ions (Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, NH4+, SO4^2-, NO3- and Cl-) were combined with tritium (^3H or T) concentration (T specific activity) in both precipitation and snow, and transformation patterns of polluted air mass in Niigata region were revealed. The low level tritium in precipitation was measured by a distillation process and an electrolytic enrichment process. Each tritium concentration in the precipitation sample thus obtained was measured by liquid scintillation counter. On the basis of the above measurement and analysis, it was found that the tritium and nss (non-sea-salt) calcium concentrations showed a seasonal variation with a highest value in spring over one year. 展开更多

Dermatophyte infection or ringworm is a superficial cutaneous infection with one or more of the fungal species of the keratinophilic genera Microsporum, Trichophyton, or Epidermophyton and is a zoonosis with a great impact on public health. Dermatophytes were identified from rabbit sample cultures submitted to mycological examination in the Laboratory of Microbiology of the University of Tr^-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Vila Real, Portugal. All samples were collected from suspected clinical cases. Dermatophytes were cultured from 4 of the 55 specimens (7.3%). The dermatophytes isolated were Trichophyton mentagrophytes var. mentagrophytes (1.8%) and Microsporum gypseum (5.5%). Microscopic examination was negative in all specimens. In this work, Scopulariopsis spp., a contaminant mould, was identified in 13 specimens (23.6%). The proportion of positive samples in relation to the number of samples examined from cases suspected was very low. As all samples were collected from rabbits with compatible signs, we presume that the low prevalence of isolation was due to laboratory constraints on dermatophytes diagnosis. 展开更多
