Halogen chemistry constitutes an essential part in the industrial production of polymers and gains increasing attention as an attractive strategy to activate light alkanes that constitute natural gas. CeO2-based catalysts offer an exciting potential for advances in hydrogen halide recovery that enables a high efficiency of halogen-based processes for activation of small molecules. This review provides an overview of recently developed ceria-based catalysts in the context of polymer industry(polyvinyl chloride, polyurethanes, and polycarbonates) and activation of light hydrocarbons for natural gas upgrading. In addition, mechanistic insight and the challenges of ceria catalysts are provided, aiding the design of future catalytic materials and applications. 展开更多

Experimental study on removal nitrogen oxide of flue gas by using solid absorbents

With the rapid development of modem industry and increase of consumption of the coal, petroleum and natural gas etc., emission of nitrogen oxide (NOx) from flue gas has air environment quality worsen day by day. This research work is experimental study on removal low concentration NOx of flue gas by using solid absorbents. The experiment result shown that denification rate by modified activated carbon is higher than that of modified zeolite and rectorite. Average denitrification rate is 65.47% and maximum denitrification rate is 95.82% for activated carbon; average denitrification rate is respectively as 43.29% and 36.18%, maximum denitrification rate is respectively as 87.51% and 79.47% for modified zeolite and rectorite. Experiment results indicated that NO adsorption process of activated carbon can be described by Freudlich adsorption mode, K=0.143 and n=2.842 and Freudlich adsorption isotherm equation is: q = 0.143MO^0.3519. 展开更多

Dry coal beneficiation using an air dense medium fluidized bed (ADMFB) requires the formation of a sta- ble and uniform bed from the dense medium. Others have shown that the structure and geometric parameters of the air distributor have a significant influence on the experimentally observed fluidization quality. In this study we used a sintered metal distributor (SMD) in the ADMFB separator and study its effect on the fluidization quality. The results show that for the same open area ratio (OAR), a smaller aper- ture in the SMD will provide improved fluidization quality. If aperture size is held constant bigger open area ratios result in improved fluidization quality. And, the fluidization quality also improves when the pressure drop across the SMD increases. A model relating distributor pressure drop and the geometric parameters of the SMD is also proposed. 展开更多

This paper presents some problems related to water quality and the condition of lakes in Romania, as well as methods for improving the quantity of oxygen dissolved in water. A method for water aeration and the installation used to implement it are described and the associated advantages regarding the reduction in the level of eutrophication are highlighted. The hydraulic installation for improving the quality of water from lakes, basins, reservoirs or slow flowing rivers was designed and tested in our hydraulics laboratory during a research project. It is floatable, environmentally friendly, and energetically autonomous, being powered by photovoltaic panels, which together with rechargeable batteries can assure a continuous operation. This installation could also be used in early stages of wastewater treatment. Experimental results regarding the performance curves of the hydraulic installation are also presented. 展开更多

Air pumping for alleviation of heavy smog in Beijing

Beijing often suffers under heavy smog.During such events which occur mostly in autumn and winter,people are desperate for fresh air.The formation of heavy smog is due to foremost human induced air pollution,but geographic and meteorological conditions,especially below a surface inversion,play an important role.We propose to destroy the inversion by pumping air from above the inversion layer to the surface layer to alleviate the severity of the smog.While long-term air quality improvement depends on the reduction of air pollution emission,air pumping may provide relief in the interim for the Beijing citizens.We estimate that an air pumping at a rate 2×10~7m^3s^(–1)can lead to significantly improved air quality in Beijing,due to(1)direct clean air input;(2)increased instability and vertical mixing and(3)a positive radiation-mixing feedback.The pumping requires an energy input of 10 GW,comparable with the energy consumption in Beijing for air conditioning in summer.We propose to use wind energy from Inner Mongolia for the pumping,which has currently an installed wind energy capacity of 70GW. 展开更多
