伯唐父鼎与周穆王治理荒服犬戎

周穆王继位之初,欲加强对西部方国的管理,改革周初确定的朝贡服制。于是以西部犬戎诸方国不以宾服之礼向周王朝尽四时献祭的职责为由,征伐了犬戎,获得四白鹿四白狼而归。伯唐父鼎铭文记载周穆王以白鹿、白狼为射礼的射侯,寓意对献纳白鹿、白狼的犬戎方国实施厌胜之术。以射获的白鹿、白狼献于宗庙,作为■祭祖礼的牺牲,反映了周穆王向祖先告知他征服了荒服犬戎。
