To be found in the present issue are highlights of the fifth colloquium of 1996 All discussants are up-and-coming scholars below 35 working with different programs of liberal arts or the humanities at Fudan Some reflect upon the past, present and future of their fields of endeavor; others survey the trends and problems in their specialized studies,boldly supplying their own answers While they may not amply represent the entire young scholarly generation, we can from them gain a few glimpses of what is foremost in their thoughts.No one would dream of comprehensiveness or absolute accuracy in a brief speech or article,but readers can at least feel the young scholars ’ boldness,vitality and aspirations.展开更多
