Our age indeed distinguishes itself by its ever more rapid transformations in the kinds of mediation for such encounters. But, especially when they are new, technologies may deeply affect how we see the world, our communities, our relationships, and ourselves. For, as people usually respond to new media with much excitement as well as a big amount of confusion, and these media may conduct to social and cultural reorganization, they should as well incite more sober reflections about such changes before they become so taken for granted to appear as almost "invisible"展开更多
The China-US Million Book Digital Library Project (Million Book Project) is an intemational cooperation program between China and the US. However, one million digitized books are considered not to be the ultimate go...The China-US Million Book Digital Library Project (Million Book Project) is an intemational cooperation program between China and the US. However, one million digitized books are considered not to be the ultimate goal of the project, but a first step towards universal access to human knowledge. In particular, there are four challenges about the new way to analyze, process, operate, visualize and interact with digital media resource in this library. To tackle these challenges, North China Centre of Million Book Project (in Chinese Academy of Sciences) has initiated several innovative research projects in areas such as multimedia content analysis and retrieval, bilingual services, multimodal information presentation, and knowledge-based organization and services. In this keynote speech, we simply review our work in these areas, and argue that by technological cooperation with these innovation research topics, the project will develop a top-level digital library platform for the million book library.展开更多

In the new digital environment, public service broadcasting/media, which for a number of social and cultural reasons have been at the core of the European media system, faces the capital question--What democracy do public operators strive for and how can they accomplish it? PSM has to be at the vanguard of the complex process of media transformation in the information society and particularly of the formation of novel journalistic culture which besides the values of ethical and innovative content should also serve the principles of good and efficient governance.展开更多
In the field of intangible cultural heritage' s digital protection, a lot of research work has been made by all countries in the world, while the research on the digital commuuication of intangible cultural heritage ...In the field of intangible cultural heritage' s digital protection, a lot of research work has been made by all countries in the world, while the research on the digital commuuication of intangible cultural heritage is few and especially rarely seen in China. Under the premise, in this paper, the factors influencing intangible cultural heritage in the communication process are analyzed based on the information characteristics of intangible cultural heritage and the advantages of I-Space framework model in researching information transfer. Also, combined with the birch bark making technology in Heilongjiang province, the knowledge-based and signified communication strategy of intangible cultural heritage is proposed, aiming at providing new ideas for the researches on the digital communication of intangible cultural heritage.展开更多
