Tolerance is imperative for seamless integration of CAD/CAM(Computer Aided Disign/Computer Aided Manufacture) which is just a text attribute and has no semantics in present CAD systems. There are many tolerance types, the relations between which are very complicated. In addition, the different principles of tolerance make study of tolerance difficult; and there may be various meanings or interpretation for the same type of tolerance because of the literal definition. In this work, latest unambiguous mathematical definition was applied to study, explain and clarify: (1) the formation and representation of tolerance zone, and (2) the formation and representation of variational elements; after which, the mathematical models of symmetry of different tolerance principles and different interpretations were derived. The CuO/γ-Al2O3/cordierite catalyst, after being sulfated by sulfur dioxide (SO2) at 673 K, exhibits high activities for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of nitrogen oxide (NO) with ammonia (NH3) at 573-723 K. The intrinsic kinetics of SCR of NO with NH3 over CuO/γ-Al2O3/cordierite catalyst has been measured in a fixed-bed reactor in the absence of internal and external diffusions. The experimental results show that the reaction rate can be quantified by a first-order expression with activation energy Eá of 94.01 kJ·mol-1 and the corresponding p re-exponential factor A′ of 3.39×108 cm3·g-1·s-1 when NH3 is excessive. However, when NH3 is not enough, an E ley-Rideal kinetic model based on experimental data is derived with Ea of 105.79 kJ·mol-1, the corresponding A of 2 .94×109 cm3·g-1·s-1, heat of adsorption-Hads of 87.90 kJ·mol-1 and the corresponding Aads of 9.24 cm3·mol-1. The intrinsic kinetic model obtained was incorporated in a 3D mathematical model of monolithic reactor, and the agreement of the prediction with experimental data indicates that the present kinetic model is adequate for the reac-tor design and engineering scale-up. 展开更多

It provides theory support for the application of high power intrinsically safe power supply. The released energy of output short circuit of switch power supply, and the close related factors that influence the biggest output short-circuit spark discharge energy are the theoretical basis of the power supply. It is shown how to make a high power intrinsically safe power supply using the calculated values in the mathematical model, and take values from intrinsically safe requirements parameters scope, then this theoretical calculation value can be developed as the ultimate basis for research of the power supply. We solve the problem of petroleum products distribution through oil pipelines networks. This problem is modelled and solved using two techniques: A heuristic method like a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm and Mathematical Programming. In the multiobjective evolutionary algorithm, several objective functions are defined to express the goals of the solutions as well as the preferences among them. Some constraints are included as hard objective functions and some are evaluated through a repairing function to avoid infeasible solutions. In the Mathematical Programming approach the multiobjective optimization is solved using the Constraint Method in Mixed Integer Linear Programming. Some constraints of the mathematical model are nonlinear, so they are linearized. The results obtained with both methods for one concrete network are presented. They are compared with a hybrid solution, where we use the results obtained by Mathematical Programming as the seed of the evolutionary algorithm. 展开更多

To make the resulting motion realistic, the physically-based optimization method is adopted. However, the optimization process is difficult to converge to the optimal value because of high complexity of the physical human model. In order to address this problem, an appropriate simplified model automatically determined by a motion analysis technique is utilized, and then motion retargeting with this simplified model as an intermediate agent is implemented. The entire motion retargeting algorithm involves three steps of nonlinearly constrained optimization: forward retargeting, motion scaling and inverse retargeting. Its application to the parametric design of an electrorheological fluid shock absorber with the simulation calculation performed by program MATLAB demonstrates that the model can predict the behavior of ER shock absorbers satisfactorily, shorten the design period of an electrorheological shock absorber, and reduce the cost in the prototype manufacturing. The strength analysis based on a three-dimensional finite element model for the electrorheological shock absorber confirm that the structure design of the ER shock absorber is reasonable, and the stress distribution is uniform. 展开更多

This paper gives details about the controller design that aims to stabilize the novel twinrotor flying robot, Toruk. Toruk is an experimental test bench to study center of gravity steering, effect of the location of the center of gravity, controller design and implementation, etc. Physical components are also briefly discussed in this paper. Attitude dynamics of the system is inherently unstable. It is stabilized by a regulator. In addition, an observer is designed and utilized to estimate the unmeasured states. Thrust force generated by the propulsion unit is estimated by using the identified mathematical model of the unit. An experimental setup is employed to identify the mathematical model that expresses the relation between the applied input voltage to the propulsion unit and thrust produced by the propeller. Mathematical model for the attitude dynamics of Toruk is built. Then controllability and observability analysis are carried out for the system. Dynamic compensator composed of a state observer and a regulator, is designed on the mathematical model. Physical implementation on the system will be performed. 展开更多

Surface reconstruction from unorganized data points is a challenging problem in Computer Aided Design and Geometric Modeling. In this paper, we extend the mathematical model proposed by Juttler and Felis (Adv. Comput. Math., 17 (2002), pp. 135-152) based on tensor product algebraic spline surfaces from fixed meshes to adaptive meshes. We start with a tensor product algebraic B-spline surface defined on an initial mesh to fit the given data based on an optimization approach. By measuring the fitting errors over each cell of the mesh, we recursively insert new knots in cells over which the errors are larger than some given threshold, and construct a new algebraic spline surface to better fit the given data locally. The algorithm terminates when the error over each cell is less than the threshold. We provide some examples to demonstrate our algorithm and compare it with Juttler's method. Examples suggest that our method is effective and is able to produce reconstruction surfaces of high quality. 展开更多

The spiral bunker is the main measure to lower the degradation. In this paper the application and research of spiral bunker are introduced. And two non-normal spiral chutes are discussed. One is in the tangential direction of the inner wall of the bunker, another is in the direction of the diameter of the bunker. Mathematical models of the non-normal spiral chutes are set up to optimize the geometrical parameters of the spiral curved surface, which would ensure that coal travels smoothly to the bottom of the bunker. This paper proposes a new type of tri-sectional wheel-based cable climbing robot which is able to climb up vertical cylindrical cables of a cable-stayed bridge. The robot is composed of three pairs of wheels equally spaced circularly which are joined by six connecting boards to form a whole closed hexagonal body to clasp a cable. The whole design is entirely modular to enable to assenably the robot on-siteeasy eaoily. To analyze the static features of the robot, a mathematical model of climbing is deduced. Furthermore, taking a cable with a diameter of 80mm as an example, we calculate the design parameters of the robot. For safly landing in the case of electrical accident, a centrifugal speed regulator is proposed and applied to consume useless energy generated when the robot is slipping down along the cables. A simplified mathematical model of the landing mechanism is deduced. Finally, several experiments on the climbing mechanism demonstrate that the robot can carry payloads less than 2.2kg to climb up a cable with diameters varying from 65mm to 205mm. 展开更多

A tool was developed to assist the cooling systems designer in designing and installing the microsprinklers and fan cooling system. The tool was developed by integrating a mathematical model into an electronic spark map in order to use the mathematical model practically. The mathematical model was developed using the designs, parameters, variables, and constant values of the microsprinklers and fans cooling system. Subsequently, an electronic spark map (decision tree) was developed, and then the mathematical model was integrated into the electronic spark map. Afterwards, C# (C Sharp) programming language was used to develop a computer system via the electronic spark map, and to make the user interface. The developed computer system assists the designer in making decisions to specify and to calculate the required discharge of cooling system pump, length and diameter of cooling system pipelines, number of cooling fans, and number of microsprinklers. Moreover, this tool calculates the capital investment and the fixed, variable, and total costs of the cooling system. However, the mathematical model of the spark map requires some input data such as: pressure and discharge of microsprinklers, and some other engineering parameters. Data of 4 cooling systems were used to carry out the model validation. The differences between actual and calculated values were determined, and the standard deviations were calculated. The coefficients of variation were between 2.25% and 4.13%. 展开更多

This work provides information for an optimal design of a thermochemical storage system, through a proposed mathematical model that predicts the behavior of a solar fluidized bed receiver finding the temperature and concentration profiles in transient state. The mathematical model is developed for a fluidized bed solar reactor, taking into account dynamics conditions of heating and reaction. The heating was simulated for radiated flux with a normal distribution over lateral walls and with distributed flow conditions of the focal stain. The contraction and expansion effects of the bed were involved with a two dimensional distribution. The mathematical model of a solar fluidized bed reactor involves a reversible chemistry reaction of thermal dissociation of the zinc sulfate (ZnSO4), also the mathematical model is accomplished by a sensitivity study with regard to the gas inlet temperature and radiation flux. 展开更多

In this paper, the mathematical dynamical model of a PEMFC (proton exchange membrane fuel cells) stack, integrated with an automotive synchronous electrical power drive, developed in Matlab environment, is shown. Lots of simulations have been executed in many load conditions. In this paper, the load conditions regarding an electrical vehicle for disabled people is reported. The innovation in this field concerns the integration, in the PEMFC stack mathematical dynamic model, of a synchronous electrical power drive for automotive purposes. Goal of the simulator design has been to create an useful tool which is able to evaluate the behaviour of the whole system so as to optimize the components choose. As regards the simulations with a synchronous electrical power drive, the complete mathematical model allows to evaluate the PEMFC stack performances and electrochemical efficiency. 展开更多
