An annular sector model for the telephone cord buckles of elastic thin films on rigid substrates is established, in which the von Krman plate equations in polar coordinates are used for the elastic thin film and a dis...An annular sector model for the telephone cord buckles of elastic thin films on rigid substrates is established, in which the von Krman plate equations in polar coordinates are used for the elastic thin film and a discrete version of the Griffith criterion is applied to determine the shape and scale of the parameters. A numerical algorithm combining the Newmark-β scheme and the Chebyshev collocation method is designed to numerically solve the problem in a quasi-dynamic process. Numerical results are presented to show that the numerical method works well and the model agrees well with physical observations, especially successfully simulated for the first time the telephone cord buckles with two humps along the ridge of each section of a buckle.展开更多

It draws on a larger longitudinal study of six Chinese university students＇ critical web literacy practices, and focuses on one of the participants, Tao. Using interviews as the primary data source, the study explored how the student engaged in daily online literacy practices, and how he utilized digital media and open resources to learn English autonomously. The findings suggest that the Internet and digital media were his major tools for learning English. Tao＇s web literacy practices were connected to his identity construction and the development of critical thinking skills in the use of both English and Chinese. This paper raises questions about Chinese university students＇ autonomy in their digital literacy development and the learning of English in the digital age of globalization.展开更多
Alarm calls of the European Spermophilus citellus （EGS）, Taurus S. taurensis （TGS） and Anatolian S. xanthoprymnus （AGS） ground squirrels share the same basic structure. They are tonal sounds consisting primarily...Alarm calls of the European Spermophilus citellus （EGS）, Taurus S. taurensis （TGS） and Anatolian S. xanthoprymnus （AGS） ground squirrels share the same basic structure. They are tonal sounds consisting primarily of two different elements. The first element, often produced without the second element, has limited frequency modulation, while the second element is more frequency modulated. The present study examined whether this frequency-modulated element enhances the individual distinc- tiveness of calls, allowing calls to be ascribed with greater confidence to individual callers of the three species. Cross-validated discriminant function analysis （DFA） based on five acoustic parameters of the first element successfully classified calls to correct individuals （EGS： 90%, TGS： 98%, AGS： 96%）. Cross-validated DFA based on five acoustic parameters of the second element was also successful in classifications （EGS： 88%, TGS： 86%, AGS： 96%）, though discrimination of callers based on parameters of the second versus first element was the same for the AGS, lower for the EGS and significantly lower for the TGS. Cross-validated DFA based on five acoustic parameters of two-element calls also successfully classified calls to correct individu- als （EGS： 93%, TGS： 98%, AGS： 97%）, though did not improve the extent to which calls could be classified to individuals be- yond that based on the ftrst element alone. METHODS: Exploring with algebraic method the diagram of Nine-m...OBJECTIVE: To introduce diagram of Nine-mansions in which another diagram named Xian-Tu is nested together with the mathematical knowledge hidden in them. METHODS: Exploring with algebraic method the diagram of Nine-mansions and diagram of Xian-Tu nested in it and comparing the diagrams with the eight-pointed-star veins. It widely exists in the Neolithic Age's antiques found in China. RESULTS: The golden rectangle and golden spiral were found hidden in the diagrams and they show close relationship with eight-pointed-star veins. CONCLUSION: The mathematical knowledge does exists in the diagram of Nine-mansions and Xian-Tu, which may mean something for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for its discourse on Nine-mansions and Eight-winds obviously employed the diagram of Nine-mansions for its medical purpose.展开更多
