A detailed landslide susceptibility map was produced in the Youfang catchment using logistic regression method with datasets developed for a geographic information system(GIS).Known as one of the most landslide-prone areas in China, the Youfang catchment of Longnan mountain region,which lies in the transitional area among QinghaiTibet Plateau, loess Plateau and Sichuan Basin, was selected as a representative case to evaluate the frequency and distribution of landslides.Statistical relationships for landslide susceptibility assessment were developed using landslide and landslide causative factor databases.Logistic regression(LR)was used to create the landslide susceptibility maps based on a series of available data sources: landslide inventory; distance to drainage systems, faults and roads; slope angle and aspect; topographic elevation and topographical wetness index, and land use.The quality of the landslide susceptibility map produced in this paper was validated and the result can be used fordesigning protective and mitigation measures against landslide hazards.The landslide susceptibility map is expected to provide a fundamental tool for landslide hazards assessment and risk management in the Youfang catchment. 展开更多

A Method for Developing Seismic Intensity Maps from Twitter Data

Aim of this article, is to present a methodology for extracting macroseismic intensity information and producing seismic intensity maps from VGI (volunteered geographic information). As a VGI source for obtaining and assessing macroseismic observations, the authors chose twitter. Our methodology is validated in two recent earthquakes occurred in Greece: the January 26, 2014 ML = 5.8 in Kefallinia, and the November 17, 2014 ML = 5.2 in Evoikos. Twitter data published within the first 6 h, 12 h, 24 h and 48 h after the earthquake occurrence were analyzed to develop seismic intensity maps. Those maps were evaluated through intensity maps for the same earthquakes, published by international institutes. Evaluation results provide a strong empiric evidence for the credibility of our methodology, the accuracy of the produced seismic intensity maps and accentuate VGI, generated by twitter, as an adequate alternative source for collecting macroseismic information. 展开更多

Recent discovery of low-dimensional coherent structure in oceanic currents along with a new merged altimeter product called Absolute Dynamic Topography (ADT) makes it possible to derive subsurface ocean information from satellite remote sensing data.An altimetric geostrophic empirical mode (η-GEM) is developed in this study by projecting hydrographic transects onto the ADT sea surface height coordinate,based on which the four-dimensional thermohaline and velocity structures of oceanic currents are reconstructed from satellite surface observations.In the WOCE/SR3 area,the η-GEM fields capture more than 95% of the total thermal variance.The GEM-derived flow has equivalent-barotropic structure and represents the velocity profile better than traditional dynamic modes.Comparison with mooring observations also demonstrates that the η-GEM provides good estimates of the deep thermohaline fields. 展开更多
