In this paper, we present a data aggregation scheduling with guaran- teed lifetime and efficient latency in WSNs. We first Construct a Guaranteed Lifetime Mininmm Ra- dius Data Aggregation Tree (GLMRDAT) which is conducive to reduce scheduling latency while pro- viding a guaranteed network lifetime, and then de-sign a Greedy Scheduling algorithM (GSM) based on finding the nmzximum independent set in conflict graph to schedule he transmission of nodes in the aggregation tree. Finally, simulations show that our proposed approach not only outperfonm the state-of-the-art solutions in terms of schedule latency, but also provides longer and guaranteed network lifetilre.展开更多
Road condition is an important variable to measure in order to decrease road and vehicle operating/maintenance costs, but also to increase ride comfort and traffic safety. By using the built-in vibration sensor in sma...Road condition is an important variable to measure in order to decrease road and vehicle operating/maintenance costs, but also to increase ride comfort and traffic safety. By using the built-in vibration sensor in smart phones, it is possible to collect road roughness data which can be an indicator of road condition up to a level of Class 2 or 3 in a simple and cost efficient way. Since data collection therefore is possible to be done more frequently, one can better monitor roughness changes over time. The continuous data collection can also give early warnings of changes and damage, enable new ways to work in the operational road maintenance management, and can serve as a guide for more accurate surveys for strategic asset management and pavement planning. Collected measurement data are wirelessly transferred by the operator when needed via a web service to an internet mapping server with spatial filtering functions. The measured data can be aggregated in preferred sections, as well as exported to other GlS (geographical information systems) or road management systems. Our conclusion is that measuring roads with smart phones can provide an efficient, scalable, and cost-effective way for road organizations to deliver road condition data.展开更多
The aim of this research is to analyse the celebration of ancient festivals through narrations. The study is a qualitative research in which narrative research was employed. The study was carried out in Kiitahya. The ...The aim of this research is to analyse the celebration of ancient festivals through narrations. The study is a qualitative research in which narrative research was employed. The study was carried out in Kiitahya. The participants were selected using the snowball sampling technique which is a part of purposeful sampling. In the study, the data were collected through unstructured interviews, which are commonly used in narrative research. According to the results of the analysis, the festivals were examined as three themes: religious festivals, national festivals, and seasonal festivals. Preparations before the religious festivals include cleaning, shopping, and preparing meals. In the morning of the first festival day, fathers go to prayer with their sons. Then they visit cemetery. Women do not join these visits. In festival visits, guests are given socks and handkerchief. Preparations of national festivals begin long before. Streets are decorated with flags which signal the preparations. Celebrations mostly take place in stadiums. Reports showed that the celebrations of Nowruz are rare in Kfitahya. Reports indicated that in Kfitahya, Hldlrellez is much more frequently celebrated in contrast to Nowruz. Painting and clinking eggs are also seen in the celebration of Hldlrellez.展开更多

It was clearly pointed out through a meticulous experimental research on the batch crystallization of CAM (citric acid monohydrate) carried out in the years 1997-1998 by the author at the historic laboratories of"La Sapienza" University of Rome. Such pioneering M.Sc. thesis, supervised by Prof. Barbara Mazzarotta (Department of Chemical Engineering), was already summarized in an informative essay but, since the crystallization operating conditions to optimize were illustrated "collectively", it seemed necessary a further paper expounding uniquely the geometry effect. Our aim is to use all the data, collected and simulated, in order to show why the round-bottomed crystallizer performed better than the conical-bottomed one with the CAM from aqueous solutions, and why we should discard the flat-bottomed crystallizers.展开更多
