Cultural Connotation and Contemporary Value of Japanese Garden

Culture is the soul of a nation, and also the basis of landscape design, the basis of historical inheritance and innovation. Japanese garden was born out of Chinese garden, but because of the difference of geographical environment and national culture, Japanese gardens combine Chinese culture with local national characteristics, forming a unique garden culture in Japan. Based on the research on Japanese gardens like pond garden, rock garden and tea garden, this study analyzed the cultural connotation in Japanese garden landscape design, made in-depth understanding of Japanese landscape development, explored the value existing in the contemporary garden design of Japanese gardens, with the aim to make use of the excellent experience to the garden landscape design in the future.

The Mission and Value of Industry——Theoretical Logic of Industrial Transformation and Upgrading in China

China is currently in a critical stage of industrial transformation, the key to which is the transformation of the manufacturing industry. Research on industrial transformation is essentially an exploration of the origin of industry and the values of industrial development. Industry offers the impetus for human development and contributes to social welfare. Industrial transformation is a simultaneous representation of the innovative and revolutionary nature of industry. Currently, industrialization is far from being complete in China and most regions of China have yet to develop a strong social foundation of modern industrial civilization. China still has large gaps with the standards of developed industrial powers. In addition to the lack of a solid industrial, technological foundation, China＇s industrial transformation and upgrade are confronted by the negative inclination towards excessive ＂instrumental rationalism＂. An obsession with speed, quantity, capital appreciation, and the single-minded pursuit of profitability have constrained the real values of industry. China＇ s current industrial transformation essentially requires a readjustment of the relationship between instrumental utility and real values and calls for a release of the innovative capabilities of industry. Currently, one of the most imperative, strategic tasks for China is to continue strengthening its industry. In-depth integration between industrialization and IT application will bring China＇ s industrial civilization to a new level.

A Study of the Chinese Americans＇ Dreams in Gish Jen＇s Typical American

Published in 1991, Jen＇s Typical American depicts a first-generation Chinese immigrant family＇s pursuing their American Dream in the Post-War American society. By choosing Chinese American immigrants as her main characters and describing their struggling in the American society, Jen expresses her understanding of being Americans. In the novel, as they move from ＂sojourners＂ to American citizens, the Chang family shows different attitude towards Chinese and American cultural values. The dreams they pursue also vary. This thesis, through an analysis of the dreams the Chang family pursue in Typical American, attempts to demonstrate how the Chang family identify with their cultural identities in this process, and how they evolve from ＂sojourners＂ to ＂typical Americans＂.

Assessing Creative Writing in a Postmodem Era

How to teach creative writing at school？ If the procedures inherited from writing workshops have undoubtedly proved efficient as regards text production, it is also clear that in Switzerland, as elsewhere in Europe and in the Anglo-Saxon world, the present use of evaluation grids with their numerous items prevents secondary school pupils from adopting the stance of an author. Why？ Simply because the most innovative and ＂literary＂ texts are always surprising： They are ＂different＂, and could not possibly result from writing guidelines devised only to facilitate a mechanical evaluation itself conceived for the sake of some illusory objectivity... Now, in our postmodern age with its rejection of models, what is more difficult than assessing the quality of creative writing？ In our approach, we suggest restoring confidence in the teacher, an expert reader if any, who, acting as a publisher, dramaturge, or mere aesthete, knows how to take his pupils＇ texts seriously, acknowledge their aesthetic value, and look at apparent clumsiness as a possible promise of innovation. The teaching of creative writing lies both in this specific reception of budding works and in the teacher＇s performative utterances that, then and there, make the pupil a writer.

＂Jerusalem＂ of China： The Neoteric Christian Churches in Shaanxi before 1949

Christian buildings in Shaanxi already have more than 1,300 years development history since the first church was built in Chang＇an in 635 AD. The Rapid development of Christian buildings started from 1840 due to the entry of foreign missionaries. Various types of Christian buildings rose up in the province, were constructed by local builder, but designed and funded by foreign missionaries. In comparison to other Christian buildings, churches have unique historical value, cultural value and also special meaning in architecture art. However, their cultural heritage value has not yet been sufficiently considered. They are facing the prospect of being damaged and demolished, even in nowadays. It is incumbent that their architecture to be historically evaluated and that ways to be found to preserve them. In this paper, the author will focus on the neoteric Christian churches and illustrate the architecture by taking examples from the churches in Shaanxi, along with the intention to clarify the relationship between social background and the history of evolution of these churches. In addition, the authors have taken the chance to understand more comprehensively about the fascinating history of these Christian churches by way of field surveys and taping into archival documents.

Present re-recognition of the significance of the aesthetic value of the traditional literati paintings

The literati paintings are a special art nourished by the philosophy, religion, poetry and calligraphy and many other cultural forms in ancient China, which can be regarded as the oriental comprehensive symphony. In terms of the depth of the art, it is the tower accumulated by various Chinese cultures, rich solid. It contains the ＂morality＂, ＂elegant banter＂, ＂super shape＂, and ＂fun＂ of the literati, which can be regarded as the representative of the high difficulty and deep degree of the Chinese traditional arts, and it is the spirit of the Chinese national paintings.

An evaluative system for restructuring the literary history of modern China

China is now in an era of multiple values. While there is some virtue in previous theories on the history of literature based on the theory of evolution, class struggle and the enlightenment, when it comes to the twenty-first century, the histories of modem Chinese literature used in teaching are farfrom adequate for meeting the developmental needs of the times, society and literature. This is especially so in view of the putting forward of the goals of ＂putting people first＂ and ＂the harmonious society,＂ and the great changes taking place in time and space, the function of literature and aesthetic taste. Hence there is an urgent need to restructure this history and establish a more fair, equal and reasonable system of evaluation. Such a system would have humanism as its highest principle, and truth, goodness and beauty as its three virtues. Its great superiority would be its functional characteristics of universality, transcendence, fairness, and human-centeredness.
