Two aspects are shown in this paper: communication between people of different social status, genders and casual relationships, and communication between people of same social status, genders and close relationships. Therefore, the study result can be concluded like this: whether the use of indirect speech act is successful or not always influences people's communication significantly.展开更多

The introduction of theatrical elements from multiple cultures including puppetry and the masks and techniques of Noh drama created a multi-tiered field for intercultural exchange. While Patrice Pavis's hourglass model for the transfer of theatrical material from a source to a target culture may hold true for productions that use linear modes of transmission, translation and incorporation of text, music, costumes and styles, its limitations make it necessary to posit alternative theories that take into account intercultural rehearsal practices, the collaboration of source and target culture and the dynamic interactions that take place through the agency of actor training in the fleshly physical theatre.展开更多

However, high density rotifer culture is often problematic due to water quality problems which results in frequent crashes. In the present study, the performance of a small-scale, continuous system was evaluated for culturing rotifers, Brachionus plicatilis, using concentrated nonviable green algae, Nannochloropsis oculeataas feed in a 160 L tank for a period of 90 days. The system configuration was simple and major components consisted of a protein skimmer and a pure oxygen delivery system. Although egg ratio increased from 3% on day 1 to 21.8% and 39.3% on days 7 and 9, respectively, rotifer growth was slow at start up and resulted in fluctuations in total number of rotifers between days 19-41. Rotifer densities remained 〈 400 until day 51 but increased at higher rates reaching 900 individuals/mL on day 55, 1,620 on day 60 and 2,127 on day 70. Rotifer density reached a maximum of 2,188 individuals/mL on day 85. Once the rotifer density exceeded 1,500 individuals/mL (day 60), periodical harvesting (a total of 16 harvest events) produced a total of 369,920,000 rotifers corresponding to a daily production of 12,330,667 individuals/day during the next 30 days until the experiment was terminated at day 90. As a result of periodic harvesting, water makeup and continuous protein skimming, total settleable solids and NH3-N levels remained low and ranged between 4-22 mL/L and 0.4-2.2 mg/L, respectively. The authors' findings indicated that this inexpensive culture system can be successfully used for small-scale marine or freshwater ornamental fish production. Further work is required to minimize lag period at start-up and increase the production potential and yield by better management of suspended solids.展开更多

As the trend of localisation in these ten years becomes obvious, several localised performances are created; however, the composers in China do not understand the music culture in Taiwan, so some interesting phenomenon can be found between an imaginary Taiwan from their viewpoints and the real culture in Taiwan. The Sorceress Bride is a performance which adapted so-called the aboriginal tune in 2012, and it arises several issues for further discussion.展开更多

The purpose of ideological and political education, and reflects the dynamic characteristics and the development requirements of the people. Fundamental characteristics of people different from animals, is a person with subjective initiative, or initiative. The purpose of man' s subjective initiative is the activities of man. Traditional culture will effectively influence the students' attitude toward the classes. Therefore, it is more than necessary to combine the ideological and political education with traditional culture.展开更多

The Program approached intercultural competency as a culturally aware ability to cope with unfamiliar situations continuously arising in the current ever-changing society, in which learning has become an "endemic condition", and the new media have created symbolic resources for actively expressing and constructing identities as an in-progress and negotiated project. Intercultural competency is therefore rethought from a holistic perspective as a part of an educational mission that particularly values one's communicative and social experiences as a strategic resource for facilitating learning processes and enhancing professional competency. The presented data show sociality as a clustering factor for intercultural learning and displays a factorial structure, from which a model for intercultural education is inferred, in which bridging social capital, media practice and reflective attitude become crucial for gaining and valuing competency in terms of human capital.展开更多

In this regard the authors examined how the representation of traditions affects place identity and in what ways the cultural heritage of the town might influence environmental forms of behaviour such as plans and projects. To this end the authors investigated the small town of Pagani in southern Italy, which has many ancient cultural traditions linked to specific locations and their rituals such as the festival of Our Lady of the Hens. Our contribution favours a qualitative approach in examining the data gathered and a participative methodology. The statistical analysis of the vocabulary distribution within 83 texts concerning town and its traditions, written by local citizens (52% male and 48% female) of different ages (range: 18-78) revealed a strong place identity. Narrative interviews (14) with key people were then analysed by means of grounded theory. In the perspective of conservation psychology the authors finally focussed on how feelings of impotence and social distrust influence relations between citizens and their local environment.展开更多

When producing Antigone in 2001, Lu was challenged by his critics in three aspects: (1) the tradition of tai-yu theatre of Tainan Jen Theatre and that of Western plays, (2) audience reception in Taiwan, and (3) the advantages and disadvantages of integrating tai-yu with Western classic texts. In spite of these criticisms on his theatrical productions, Lu has continued helping Tainan Jen Theatre transform into a professional theatrical troupe since he became an artistic director in 2002. By analyzing how and why Lu staged his The Witch Sonata--Psalm of Macbeth in the socio-historical context of intercultural adaptation, I propose to re-revaluate Lu's artistic contribution to the theatrical development in the southern part of Taiwan. I would argue that Lu is not only challenging Taiwan Residents reading of Shakespeare but also exploring the possibilities of tai-yu's theatricality, in a view to bringing new life to Taiwan's intercultural theatre.展开更多

In theory, it can absorb a larger part of the visible spectrum, widening the use of solar spectroscopy and obtaining a higher photo-to-chemical conversion efficiency. In this study, CuW(1-x)MoxO4 thin-film photoanodes on conducting glass were prepared using a simple and low-cost spray pyrolysis method. The resulting CuW(1-x)MoxO4 photoanodes perform higher photocurrent than CuWO4 photoanodes under AM 1.5 G simulated sunlight illumination(100 m W cm^(-2))in 0.1 mol L^(-1) phosphate buffer at pH 7. Combined with IPCE and Mott-Schottky analysis, the enhancement of the photocurrent is due to the improvement of photon utilization and the increase of carrier concentration with the incorporation of Mo atoms. Moreover, with the optimal Mo/W atomic ratio, the photocurrent density increases obviously from 0.07 to 0.46 m A cm^(-2) at 1.23 V(RHE) bias. In addition, compared with particle-assembled thin-film photoanodes prepared by solidphase reaction and drop-necking treatment, the photoanodes prepared by spray pyrolysis have obvious advantages in terms of reducing resistance and facilitating charge transport.展开更多

Although there currently exist many different types of "smart" materials, those based on photoresponsive transformations are especially attractive. In this review, we focus on a relatively new class of photochromic molecules based on the photochemistry of chelate organoborates, which form intensely colored, base-stabilized boriranes.Recent efforts to exploit the reactivity of these systems are summarized, and future prospects in materials science discussed.展开更多

Herein, defective CeO2x with hetero- geneous structure was synthesized by high-energy laser melt- ing, where a large amount of oxygen vacancies and Ce3~ could be introduced, leading to improved visible light absorption, narrowed bandgap and room temperature ferromagnetism. Moreover, this laser melted CeO2x exhibits significantly en- hanced low-temperature oxidation behaviors than the coun- terpart prepared by normal hydrogen-reduction. This unique redox performance could be attributed to the intragranular diffusion at the boundaries of assembled nanocrystallites. This method paves a new way for introducing unique multi-func- tions in oxide ceramics.展开更多
