Although stone palettes from the Naqada culture are well known, research has been focused mostly on those palettes which are richly decorated. However, streaks and fragments of individual signs are also often found on...Although stone palettes from the Naqada culture are well known, research has been focused mostly on those palettes which are richly decorated. However, streaks and fragments of individual signs are also often found on simple palettes of various shapes. This study shows that the majority of these palettes have quite a number of marks and sign fragments that have been made by different techniques and over a long period of time. This particularly applies to rhomboidal palettes, for most of which there are no ground to infer that they have been used for ritual purposes or for mixing beauty care compositions. It is more likely that they denote an early form of the visual symbol in later periods represented by the head of Ptah＇s staff.展开更多

The paper firstly describes three distinctive fe...Embodied cognition is an approach to cognition that departs from traditional Descartes’ mind-body dualism for its emphasis on bodily interactions with the environment. The paper firstly describes three distinctive features of embodied cognition. Furthermore, from the perspective of philosophical methodology, the paper outlines Vygotsky’s socio-cultural theory and his contributions to the development of cognitive science. Three basic themes of Vygotsky’s writings are specifically described： genetic forces as a foundation of the study of mind, social origin of higher mental functioning, and mediation of sign systems in inter-mental and intra-mental functioning. Against the background of Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, we further discuss the interface between embodied cognition and Vygotsky’s socio-cultural theory. It is claimed that bodily states and body-environment interactions are closely connected to sense-making. Embodied cognition should emphasize on the unity of body, mind, and cultural environment. Finally, the paper concludes with the influence of sociocultural theory on the study of embodied cognition.展开更多

Traditional architectural form as famous communication home Marshall McLuhan＇s ＂human extension＂, leads the order and the rules in the form of elevation. The spread of universal ethics, traditional architectural symmetry axis ceremony, and the adornment of the mythical thinking component, are traditional Chinese ethics of society to describe the core of creation through three points sequence structure constraint. The wisdom of metaphor in these ideas is the life gene of Chinese culture. In this regard, philosophy of culture aims at a general understanding of man through cultural symbols which in themselves are not the end of the research. Using the research methodology of historical science, philosophy of culture attempts to understand man as a non-continuous and heterogeneous being.
