Methods: Cell proliferation was measured by crystal violet staining assay. Collagen synthesis was determined by 3H-proline incorporation assay. Type I procollagen mRNA level was determined by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results: GE (25~70 mmolL-1) and QU (6.25~50 mmolL-1) concentration-dependently attenuated PDGF-driven HSC-T6 cell proliferative activity. TGFb1-stimulated collagen synthesis was also reduced. This was associated with a decrease in type I procollagen mRNA expression, indicating an effect at a pretranslational level. Conclusion: GE and QU may have therapeutic potential against liver fibrosis by regulating PDGF and TGFb1 actions.展开更多

The use of finely-dispersed minerals promotes alignment of topographic areas in thickness, increases the yield of leather on the area by avoiding bonding structural elements of the dermis. Changes in the microstructure of the dermis, as a result of mineral filling, contribute to improvement of performance and hygienic properties of finished leather. And the study of the properties of the specified skins should be consistent with the features of operations on their cutting, shoe molding and shoe upper fixing preparations. The most important properties of leather materials, which largely determine the quality of basic technological operations of shoe manufacturing are the deformation properties. Lack of information about relaxation and deformation properties of the leather produced by the new technologies do not allow to predict their ability to form shapes and save it--indicates the relevance of this study. This paper analyzes relaxation and deformation characteristics of natural leather for shoe uppers, filled with natural minerals montmorillonite and zeolite, and the ability to predict their formation and preservation of shape in service. Features of deformation of the skin with mineral content were assessed by determining single-cycle characteristics when attaching to a complete test cycle "loading-unloading-rest" sample. Correlations of elastic and plastic (permanent) deformation have been established, kinetics of changes in linear characteristics of the samples after removal of the load has been investigated. Introduction of dispersions of mineral to the structure of the dermis contributes to the strength of semi-finished leather, increase of the uniformity of mechanical properties in the longitudinal and transverse directions and rise of shape stability index. It is shown that the direction of this study allows us to offer new competitive ecologically friendly materials to produce shoes.展开更多

The fermented mixture was used to partially replace maize at 0, 25% and 50% in broiler starter diet. Ninety (90) day old chicks, of Anark breed were divided into three groups of three replicates each. There were ten birds per replicate and each group was fed each of the dietary treatment ad libitum for 28 days. Feed intake, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio (FCR), protein efficiency ratio (PER), total protein, albumin, globulin, aspartate aminotransaminase (EC 2.6.1.1.1), alanine aminotransaminase (EC 2.6.1.1.2), carcass cut parts and cost per kilogram flesh gained were monitored. Results showed linear increase (P 〈 0.05) in feed intake, body weight gain, FCR, and PER. The serum proteins and enzymes monitored were not influenced (P 〉 0.05) by treatments. The eviscerated weight, wings and large intestine length were higher (P 〈 0.05) in birds fed 50% replacement of maize diet. The cost of feed per kilogramme and cost per kilogramme flesh gained was best (P 〈 0.05) in birds fed diets 50% replacement of maize. Therefore, fermented mixture of cassava peel and caged layers' manure (FCPCLM) in broiler starter diet at 50% dietary level support good performance, enhanced gain in eviscerated weight and reasonable cost per kilogramme flesh gained at the starter phase.展开更多

The authors believe this is the first case of severe foreign body reaction leading to rejection of Permacol. Both animal and human studies show conflicting evidence of biocompatibility. There are several reports of successful use of Permacolto repair complex incisional herniae or abdominal walls in the presence of significant contamination. It appears from the literature that Permacolis a promising material, but as we have demonstrated,it has the potential to evoke a foreign body reaction and rejection in certain subjects.展开更多

Snakeskin gourami broodfish were fed with isocaloric diets (DE 3,000 a: 50 Kcal/kg) contained 32% crude protein. The levels of substitution were 0%, 50%, 75% and 100% of protein from fish meal (equal to 0%, 14.57%, 21.75% and 29.03% silk worm by weight). The study was assigned in CRD with 4 treatments and 3 replications. Six hundred of snakeskin gourami with five-month old and average weight of 78.67 ± 2.15 g in female and average weight of 73.00 ± 2.49 g in male were stocked in 12 cages. Fifty fishes of 25 females and 25 males were reared in each cage and fed experimental diet for five months. The result indicated that protein digestibility of test diets were significantly decrease (P 〈 0.05) according to the level of silkworm pupae in diets where as the dry matter digestibility showed no significantly different (P 〉 0.05). The growth performance and egg fecundity were significantly decreased (P 〈 0.05) according to the levels of silkworm pupae. In contrast, egg quality in term of fry number on first spawned, fingering number on first spawned were not significantly different (P 〉 0.05). The survival rate of one month nursing fish on first spawned were significantly different (P 〈 0.05). Hence, silkworm pupae could substitution for 50% of protein from fish meal (14.57% by weight) in snakeskin gourami broodstock diets without any adverse effect on egg quality.展开更多
