The modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) typed equations can be used to describe certain nonlinear phenomena in fluids, plasmas, and optics. In this paper, the discretized mKdV lattice equation is investigated. With the aid of symbolic computation, the discrete matrix spectral problem for that system is constructed. Darboux transformation for that system is established based on the resulting spectral problem. Explicit solutions are derived via the Darboux transformation. Structures of those solutions are shown graphically, which might be helpful to understand some physical processes in fluids, plasmas, and optics. 展开更多

The propagation and fission process of internal solitary waves (ISWs) with amplitudes of about 170 m are simulated in the northeast of the South China Sea (NSCS) by using the generalized Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) ... The propagation and fission process of internal solitary waves (ISWs) with amplitudes of about 170 m are simulated in the northeast of the South China Sea (NSCS) by using the generalized Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation under continuous stratification. More attention is paid to the effects of the ebb and flood background currents on the fission process of ISWs. This kind of background current is provided by the composed results simulated in terms of monthly mean baroclinic circulation and barotropic tidal current. It is found that the obtained relation of the number of fission solitons to the water depth and stratification is roughly in accordance with the fission law derived by Djordjevic and Redekopp in 1978; however, there exists obvious difference between the effects of the ebb and flood background currents on the wave-lengths of fission solitons (defined as the distance between two neighboring peaks of ISWs). The difference in nonlinearity coefficient a between the ebb and flood background currents is a main cause for the different wave-lengths of fission solitons. 展开更多

In this paper, an infinite sequence of conservation laws for a generalized variable-coefficient fifth-order Korteweg-de Vries equation in fluids are constructed based on the Backlund transformation. Hirota bilinear form and symbolic computation are applied to obtain three kinds of solutions. Variable coefficients can affect the conserved density, associated flux, and appearance of the characteristic lines. Effects of the wave number on the soliton structures are also discussed and types of soliton structures, e.g., the double-periodic soliton, parallel soliton and soliton complexes, are presented. 展开更多

Delayed differential reduction system and pure difference systems are derived from the coupled hybrid system by means of the symmetry reduction approach. Starting from the governing equations for a quantum magnetoplasma including the electron spin -1/2 effects and quantum Bohm potential, we derive Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation of the system of quantum magneto- hydrodynamics (QMHD). The amplitude and width of magnetosonic soliton with different parameters in the system are studied. It is found that the normalized Zeeman energy E plays a crucial role, for E ≥ 1 the amplitude τmξ and the width we of solitary wave all decrease as E increases. That is, the introduction of spin quantum force modifies the shape of solitary magnetosonic waves and makes them more narrower and shallower. 展开更多

There is a complex Miura transformation between the complex Korteweg-de Vries equation and a modified Kortcweg-de Vries equation. Using the transformation, solitons, breathers and rational solutions to the com- plex Korteweg-de Vries equation are obtained from those of the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation. This paper is intended as an attempt to set up the global smoothing for the periodic Benjamin equation. It is shown that for Hs(T) initial data with 8 〉 -1/2 and for any s 〈 s1〈 min{s + 1,3s + 1}, the difference of the evolution with the linear evolution is in Hs1 (T) for all times, with at most polynomial growing HS1 norm. Unlike Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation, there are less symmetries of the Benjamin system, especially for the resonant function. The new ingredient is that we need to deal with some new difficulties that are caused by the lack of symmetries. 展开更多
