It ensures interdisciplinarity, multilinguai approach (CLIL compliance) and interactive activities in classrooms. This educational game uses students' personal tablets and smartphones to interact with the game, with a system more comprehensible and funny for young people compared to traditional methodologies. Students are bringing "in situation" by the adventure, so teachers can get a rigorous assessment of their skills. The Game includes several adventure paths, suitable for different age students. They are focused on scientific topics, humanities, hands-on activities in interdisciplinary way. If used conditions do not allow practical or laboratorial activities provided by the game, players can see some videos to understand the activities. Experimental results were outstanding: the RPG appreciation is in agreement with the experiments outcome. This work experience gets excellent feedbacks by teachers, in terms of efficacy of this new teaching methodology and of results achieving.展开更多

After the report of the commission "Fundamentele Verkenning Bouw" in 2008, several studies have been done on the principals that the commission outlined in its report. Local authorities and parties in construction were invited to start experiments with a more privatized system of building control. But this faced a lack of participation, partly due to the impact of the crisis. The minister responsible for housing and construction invited in 2011 a "Bouwteam" to develop an agenda for action for construction. In 2012, 17 action teams started to focus, speed up and simplify the planning and development of construction. Recently, the two teams related to building regulation presented their plans. The first was a roadmap towards private building control, the second, a proposal for an independent body to answer questions on constructions plans that do intrinsically but not legally meet the standards of building regulation. There is considerable controversy regarding the way that this implementation team is paving its path towards private building control. While the minister for housing conformed himself to a subsidized private implementing team, the Dutch Parliament has expressed its own priorities for regulation: insured guarantee to protect users and owners, a role for local authorities regarding safety and acceptance of buildings and simplification of building regulation and control for simple construction works. The parliament held a round-table conference to get informed about private building control. Recently, a proposal by the minister for housing was discussed. Further debate will be needed to decide about the next steps in innovation building regulation, which will take place in the upcoming months. ERB/RIGO (Foundation Expert Centre Regulations in Building/Research Institute for Real Estate) have developed own proposals for the public-private relation regarding development and construction of buildings. They expect that their proposals might be of help. The proposals are laid down in several publications and partly realized in experimental development of "to be approved" technical solutions. This paper reflects on the differences between their proposals and these of the roadmap, on the possible outcome of the ongoing debate and its implications, legal and technical, on building regulation and on legal and contractual liability. This paper tries to give an inside view on the development of regulation and the pros and cons of the proposals, starting from a theoretical outline of building regulation.展开更多

Laminar and turbulent boundary layers exhibit a significantly different behavior, not only regarding skin friction but also for heat-transfer which affects the blade cooling design. The present work presents a novel and non-intrusive measurement technique to detect the transition, based on acoustic concepts. The reliability of the technique was investigated by means of boundary layer measurements over a fiat plate in subsonic flow conditions. After a preliminary assessment with a conventional Preston tube, a row of microphones were installed along the plate to correlate transition pressure fluctuations. To provide a comprehensive representation of the experiment, dedicated measurements with a fast response aerodynamic pressure probe were performed to determine the turbulence intensity and the dissipation rate upstream of the flat plate. The experimental results were systematically compared with calculations performed with three different computational fluid dynamics solvers (ANSYS-Fluent, ANSYS-CFX, OpenFOAM) and using both the k-k1-ω and the γ-Reθ transition models. Results show a fair agreement between CFD (computational fluid dynamics) predictions and the acoustic technique, suggesting that this latter might represent an interesting alternative option for transition measurements.展开更多

These projects consist of the Solar Vehicle, Moonbuggy, Baja SAE (sina app engine), Formula SAE and Solar Boat. The goal of the EVP is to foster undergraduate student development through hands-on construction of experimental vehicles with the guidance of faculty mentors and partnerships with both national and international industry leaders. Each EVP project performs a vital function in the professional development of students. The projects provide a forgiving environment in which students can test their classroom knowledge in a real-world setting and learn important skills such as leadership, effective communication and working as a team member. Furthermore, the students in the EVP develop highly versatile and qualified skill sets that will allow them to fill various positions within the workplace. In the past, 90% of EVP graduates have been able to obtain highly regarded national and international positions upon graduation due to their real-world experience gained throughout their involvement in the EVP. Each year the EVP sponsors up to 60 interdisciplinary students that come together in peer-led teams to combine and expand upon their classroom knowledge in building innovative vehicles. The successes of the MTSU (Middle Tennessee State University) EVP have been recognized by becoming the national model for hands-on engineering education; helping engineering students take classroom knowledge and apply it to real-world situations. Students work to design, construct, and test novel vehicle designs for participation in national and international competitions. Due to the competitive nature of each of the events, students must use cutting edge technology and design methods in order to create the best entries possible. Often times, this means creating partnerships with industry leaders who help mentor the students from the design conception, the fabrication through the manufacturing of each vehicle.展开更多

Experimental means such as the water, electricity and gas systems which support the operation of equipment, and multiple sets of engine components (the compressor, the turbine, the combustion chamber, the structural strength etc.) which support the experimental study of the engine also badly needs to improve in the direction of comprehensive monitoring and system integration to meet the needs of high efficient experiment and management. The experiment platform can make the experimental data and the experimental process be shared in different places in real time. Improving the collaborative ability of design and experiment, improving the automatic level of the experiment and so on all need the computer, the network and the professional and matching application system to support so as to guarantee the security, the stability and the reliability of the experiment, and reduce the risk of the experiment.
