A typical profile was established. Both particle size distribution and REE (rare earthelements) characteristics of the yellow-brown-colored earth of the profile fully suggested its aeolian origin andclose similarity to Naming Xiashu loess. The study also implied aeolian origin of the underlying Quaternaryred clap Compared with the red clay, the yellow- brown- colored earth was less weathered because of its lowercontent of free iron and higher mole ratios of SiO2/A12O3 and SiO2/(Fe2O3+A12O3 ) as well as its lessdeveloped chemical microtextures of quartz grains. In order to study the aged of the two deposits comparatively, the thermoluminescent dating method wasused. As a result, the bottom of the yellow-brown-colored esrth was dated to 6015 ka B. P. and the upperpart of the red clay 38854 ka B. P. It was suggested that the yellow- browm- colored earth was formed inthe Late Pleistocene and was probably the aeolian deposit of the Last Glacial, which corresponded with theMalan loess in the Loess Plateau of the northwestern part of China; while the underlying red clay was formedin the Middle Pleistocene.A "yellow cap" on Quaternary red clay in Jiujiang implied a great climatic and environmental varistionin the beginning of the Late Pleistocene in the southern pot of China, especially in the middle and lowerreaches of the Yangtze River. The eveal not only halted the rubification, once dominating the region, butalso produced a widespread covering of aeolian deposit, as only occurred in the cold and dry environment.展开更多

The consequences of self-fertilization are important factors determining the germplasm management in such species with levels of heterogeneity and heterozygsity. Effects of self-fertilization on floral, yield and yield components characters were evaluated by comparing two levels of selfing, produced in bee-proof cages, in open-pollination at two locations in Sudan. Selfing process results in no significant differences in yield and yield components within each cultivar. Autofertile lines with reduced partial dependence on insects for seed set could be produced. Spatial isolation should be used to maintain the genetic purity of such lines. An alternate strategy for entries multiplication should focus on increasing heterozygosity and the maintenance of cross-fertilization inside the entries to prevent contamination with foreign pollens. Our results follow the previous knowledge on faba bean genetic resources conservation and management.展开更多

The widespread occurrence of bedrock fault scarps along the LSPF offers excellent opportunity to examine the faulting history. Using cosmogenic ^10Be exposure dating, we measured the exposure ages of the western Langshankou scarp, located in the middle segment of the LSPF. Our data revealed at least two earthquakes that occurred at 22.2±3.3 Ira and 7.2±2.4 ka, respectively. These events are consistent with previous paleoseismic trench studies. The regression of the relationship between the age and sampling height along the scarp yield a fault slip rate of 0.10 ±0.05/-0.06 mm/yr, which is significantly lower than the average post-late Pleistocene fault slip rate of ~1 mm/yr, as estimated from the offset of the T2 terraces by previous studies. This indicates that the slip of the LSPF may have been accommodated by other fault branches.展开更多

Documentaries are designed to push social agendas with few thoughts to the audience reaction. They align more closely with the vision of the creators and producers, often delivering ideological expressions that present cultural, political, and historical content. However, this might be a voice from the past as television, film, and consumer-generated content finds easy voices for expression due to accessibility of technology in the digital era. The role of documentaries as a genre is in the process of changing. The challenges to this type of production are the result of both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Production costs for creating documentaries have simultaneously soared and shrunk, depending on the accessibility of equipment, post-production facilities and distribution. Of course there are many exceptions to this rule given outlets such as film festivals and YouTube as well as Michael Moore-level auteurs. External influences center on the blurring of lines, caused by the proliferation of television programs under the "umbrella" of reality television. This, in turn, begs the question: Is reality programming the new documentary or is it a new separate genre? This discussion will explore the overlap and similarities that exist between documentary programming and reality television programming. Furthermore, it will develop a paradigm of comparisons that re-examines the role and character of documentary production and aesthetics within the landscape of the reality television genre.展开更多

Methods Fifty adult female rats received inguinal subcutaneous injections of isoproterenol (ISO, 250 mg/kg) for induction of DCM. Four weeks later, the model rats were randomly divided into EPCs group, b-FGF group and control group. The 2×106 EPCs ( resolved in 100 μL PBS) , 100 μL b-FGF ( lO0 μg/mL ) and 100 μL PBS were evenly transplanted into the myocardium of EPCs group, b-FGF group and control group, respectively. Three months later, echocardiographic examination and regional myocardial blood flow (RMBF) measurement were performed. EPCs were traced by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). The protein and mRNA expression of b-FGF in each group was measured by ELISA assay and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction ( RT-PCR ) . Results Three months after transplantation, sry positive cells were detected only in EPCs group. The cardiac function as well as RMBF was significantly improved in EPCs group compared with b-FGF group or control group. There was higher capillary density in EPCs group. The protein and mRNA expression of b-FGF was stronger than b-FGF group and control group. Conclusion Transplantation of EPCs can improve cardiac function, induce neovascularization and increase RMBF for DCM rats. The treatment with EPCs has better effect than administration of b-FGF alone.展开更多

Purpose of this study was the selection of the best genotypes for future breeding program until the final goal and that is standardizing Cornelian cherry cultivars. Chemical content has been found to depend on the genotype. Total sugar content in fruits ranged from 11.77% (CPC16) to 41.62% (BPC7), vitamin C from 17.15 mg/100 g (APC8) to 42.30 rag/100 g of fresh fruit (APC2), Ca pectat from 0.17% (APC6) to 2.52% (KC 1 ) and anthocyanin from 22.65 mg/100 g (APC4)to 96.30 rag/100 g of fresh fruit (BPC1). Cornelian cherry fruits have an especially high content of minerals compared with other fruit species: the potassium content (in ppm) ranges from 2330 (APC6) to 11487 (APC4), the calcium content from 33.80 (APC6) to 1307.70 (BPC1), the sodium content from 22.82 (BPC8) to 273.48 (APC8), the magnesium content from 10.20 (APC6) to 372.80 (APC8) and the iron content from 2.38 (KC2) to 14.40 (APCS). The balanced content of nutrients, a wide range of food products made from the Cornelian cherry and an extremely high nutritional value make this fruit species a highly recommendable food item, especially if it comes from organic production.展开更多

During the past three decades, plant breeding has been empowered by both new knowledge on trait development and regulation(e.g., functional genomics) and new technologies(e.g., biotechnologies and phenomics). Gene editing, particularly by clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats(CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein(Cas) and its variants, has become a powerful technology in plant research and may become a game-changer in plant breeding. Traits are conferred by coding and non-coding genes. From this perspective, we propose different editing strategies for these two types of genes. The activity of an encoded enzyme and its quantity are regulated at transcriptional and post-transcriptional, as well as translational and post-translational, levels. Different strategies are proposed to intervene to generate gene functional variations and consequently phenotype changes. For non-coding genes, trait modification could be achieved by regulating transcription of their own or target genes via gene editing. Also included is a scheme of protoplast editing to make gene editing more applicable in plant breeding. In summary, this review provides breeders with a host of options to translate gene biology into practical breeding strategies, i.e., to use gene editing as a mechanism to commercialize gene biology in plant breeding.展开更多
