If we examine the underlying enablers for the significant gains that have been achieved, the key role that research to help understand the causes of problems and to develop lasting solutions is clear. Many of the remaining challenges have been resistant to solutions by various approaches. Some, such as fatalities and injuries from ground control or powered haulage are prominent year after year. Different approaches are indicated and new solutions will be required if we are to achieve a goal of zero harm. These will originate with research, but into which topics, and what are some of these different approaches? This paper examines the current state of mine safety in the United States and highlights areas of significant opportunity for research that will lead to solutions. The likely direction of research that will enable realization of the ‘‘zero harm'' goal is described in terms of evolutionary and revolutionary approaches. Both are important, but the author's view is that some of the largest gains will be made with trans-disciplinary approaches that break from the past. Topical areas of research are suggested and several research questions are given to illustrate the direction of future research in mining safety and health.展开更多

The results suggest that the known Pb Zn deposits, such as Wulagen, are thermal brine genesis, which is supported by the features of tectonic setting, magma and regional metamorphism, and the characteristics of trace element distribution in strata and redistribution in the ore forming process, the REE patterns and their main parameters of main type ores, the composition features and the source indicators of Pb, S isotopes. Ore forming conditions of superlarge Pb Zn deposits studies show that there exists tectonic and sources setting of Jinding type superlarge Pb Zn deposits in this area. Five Pb Zn ore belts and central uplift belts discovered lately have not only confirmed that the genesis of Wulagen Pb Zn deposits is thermal genesis, but also further proved that there exists tectonic and source setting of Jinding type superlarge Pb Zn deposit in the study area. Mineral deposit model was described and prospecting potentiality of superlarge Pb Zn deposit and their significance were discussed.展开更多

Here, we discuss the problem of low-precision location identification for microseismic events in a mine, as may be obtained using conven-tional location methods that are based on arrival time. In this paper, microseismic location characteristics in mining are analyzed according to the characteristics of the mine's microseismic wavefield. We review research progress in mine-related microseismic source location methods in recent years, including the combination of the Geiger method with the linear method, combined microseismic event location method, optimization of relative location method, location method without pre-measured velocity, and location method without arrival time picking. The advantages and disadvantages of these methods are discussed, along with their feasible conditions. The influences of geophone distribution, first arrival time picking, and the velocity model on microseismic source location are analyzed, and measures are proposed to influence these factors. Approaches to solve the problem under study include adopting information fusion, combining and optimizing existing methods, and creating new methods to realize high-precision microseismic source location. Optimization of the velocity structure, along with applications of the time-reversal imaging technique, passive time-reversal mirror, and relative interferometric imag-ing, are expected to greatly improve microseismic location precision in mines. This paper also discusses the potential application of information fusion and deep learning methods in microseismic source location in mines. These new and innovative location methods for microseismic source location have extensive prospects for development.展开更多

The strain DXS is gram-negative and rod-shaped with a size of (0.40±0.05) μm x (1.3±0.5) μm. The optimal temperature and pH for growth are 30 ℃ and pH 2.0, respectively. It can grow autotrophically by using ferrous iron, elemental sulfur and NaS203 as sole energy sources. In the phylogenetic tree, strain DXS has similarity with Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans type strain ATCC 23270 with 99.57% sequence similarity. The cloning and sequencing of Iro protein gene (iro) and tetrathionate hydrolase gene (tth) reveal that strain DXS is completely identical in iro gene sequence to A. ferrooxidans LY (DQ166841), and almost identical in tth gene sequene to .4. ferrooxidans (AB259312) (only two nucleotides change). The bioleaching experiments of marmatite and pyrite reveal that the leached zinc and iron concentrations reach 3.01 g/L and 2.75 g/L, respectively. The strain has a well potential application in industry bioleaching.展开更多

Three distinct fluid inclusion types have been identified in the gold-bearing quartz sulphide veins of the deposit: (1) type I: vapour-liquid two-phase (VH2O-LH2O ), (2) type II : three-phase CO2 ( VCO2 - LH2O - LCO2 ) and (3) type III: vapour-rich (LCO2 - VCO2 ) inclusions. Six analysis of individual fluid inclusion indicate the fluid inclusions comprise mainly of H2O and CO2. Forma- tion P-T conditions recorded by fluid inclusions in quartz crystals correspond to 180℃-380℃ and up to 130 MPa, as indicated by high-density CO2 bubbles (up to 0. 98 g/cm3 ) observed in some inclusions. The esti- mated crystallization pressures correspond to approximately 4-10 km of overburden, assuming a lithostatic load. The salinity ranges from 0 to 22 wt%. The deposit holds at 0.2-5 g/t Au and contains low-moderate salinity.展开更多
