On April 7, 1944, two Slovak Jewish prisoners, Rudolf Vrba and Alfred Wetzler managed to escape Auschwitz-Birkenau and reveal its secrets. They further warned that specific arrangements had been made in the camp for the annihilation of the Hungarian Jews. The precious information was disseminated without delay to the Western world. It is not clear whether it reached the prospective victims: All boarded in good faith the "resettlement trains" that carried them to the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp, where most were immediately gassed. This specific story has been missing from most Israeli history textbooks in Hebrew. Following Winter's (2006) thesis, this paper tries to trace some of the official manipulation that were made in shaping the "right" form of remembrance.展开更多

The type of straight news report is regarded as the most objective news report in the journalistic field. The purpose of this research is to find out the different journalistic cultures or orientations between Chinese and American newspapers when they report the same world event. This paper finds that ChD prefers to provide more information for the consequences of the event and reactions to it usually by making general and static statements. NYT attaches more importance to background introduction and is more liable to use detailed and dynamic description展开更多

It is one of the major setbacks of media growth in Nigeria. BES is a system whereby journalists collect money or other material gifts from news sources, company executives or event organizers to cover such events and probably give it the wildest publicity as the case may be. It symbolizes the rot that has plagued the Nigerian media industry since the early 1980s to date. This paper therefore builds from an empirical study by the same authors, as well as literature materials to argue that media professionalism and the enforcement of the various ethical codes that preach professionalism are the practical ways to ensure ethical conduct and behaviour amongst journalists and other categories of media practitioners, especially in Nigeria where these are missing. This, according to the paper, is the missing link in the quest to rid the media industry in Nigeria from the monster called BES.展开更多
