We propose a new edge-detection method named correlation coefficient of multidirectional standard deviations(CCMS) that is solely based on statistics. First, we prove the reliability of the proposed method using a single model and then a combination of models. The proposed method is evaluated by comparing the results with those obtained by other edge-detection methods. The CCMS method offers outstanding recognition, retains the sharpness of details, and has low sensitivity to noise. We also applied the CCMS method to Bouguer anomaly data of a potash deposit in Laos. The applicability of the CCMS method is shown by comparing the inferred tectonic framework to that inferred from remote sensing(RS) data.展开更多

The parameters of the proposed model are calculated by using the optimization of experimental data for the different single gas adsorption systems at various temperatures. The experimental adsorption equilibrium data of adsorbate-adsorbent systems was compared with the calculated results in our proposed model and the two-dimensional Hill-deBoer equation model. The proposed model as indicated in the results shows a better prediction of the experimental results compared with two others.展开更多

By this result, one can show that the system of fugal mycelia has a global attractor if the diffusion coefficient D = 0 and the solution blows up ifD= 0. The method of linearization is applied to derive the existence of Hopfs bifurcation which is the signature of instability of Turing system. The increasing of the size of the attractor and the existence of Hopf' s bifurcation indicate that there is a threshold that initiates the instability.展开更多

The sliding body was divided into strips in a three-dimensional model, and the lateral earth pressure was put into mechanical analysis and the three-dimensional stability analysis methods applicable for circular sliding in concave slope were deduced. Based on geometric structure and the geological parameters of a concave slope, the influence rule of curvature radius and the top and bottom arch height on the concave slope stability were analyzed. The results show that the stability coefficient decreases after growth, first in the transition stage of slope shape from flat to concave, and it has been confirmed that there is a best size to make the slope stability factor reach a maximum. By contrast with average slope, the stability of a concave slope features a smaller range of ascension with slope height increase, which indicates that the enhancing effect of a concave slope is apparent only with lower slope heights.展开更多

Motivated by this fundamental idea, we propose a novel asymptotic method, the nonsensitive homotopy-Pade approach. In this method, homotopy relations are constructed to link the original system with an ideal, solvable model. An artificial homotopy parameter is introduced to the homotopy relations as the normal perturbation parameter to generate the perturbation series, and is used to implement the Padd approximation. Meanwhile, some other auxiliary nonperturbative parameters, which are used to control the convergence of the perturbation series, are inserted to the approximants, and are fixed via the principle of minimal sensitivity. The method is used to study the eigenvalue problem of the quantum anharmonic oscillators. Highly accurate numerical results show its validity. Possible further studies on this method are also briefly discussed.展开更多

Measurement was carried out in a semi-dynamic system. Experimental data were correlated by iso-fugacity model(based on cubic equations of state, CEOS), Modified Mendez–Santiago–Teja(MST) and Modified Bartle semi-empirical models. Two cubic equations of state: Peng–Robinson(PR) and Dashtizadeh–Pazuki–Ghotbi–Taghikhani(DPTG) were adopted for calculation of equilibrium parameters in CEOS modeling. Interaction coefficients(k_(ij)& l_(ij)) of van der Waals(vdW) mixing rules were considered as the correlation parameters in CEOS-based modeling and their contribution to the accuracy of model was investigated. Average Absolute Relative Deviation(AARD) between correlated and experimental data was calculated and compared as the index of validity and accuracy for different modeling systems. In this basis it was realized that the semi-empirical equations especially Modified MST can accurately support the theoretical studies on phase equilibrium behavior of quinine–SCCO_2 media. Among the cubic equations of state DPGT within two-parametric vd W mixing rules provided the best data fitting and PR within one-parametric vd W mixing rules demonstrated the highest deviation respecting to the experimental data. Overall, in each individual modeling system the best fitting was observed on the data points attained at 318 K, which could be perhaps due to the moderate thermodynamic state of supercritical phase.展开更多

In this study, a novel hybrid differential evolution (DE) algorithm based on the differential evolution technique and a local search strategy is developed for solving kinetic parameter estimation problems. By combining the merits of DE with Gauss-Newton method, the proposed hybrid approach employs a DE algorithm for identifying promising regions of the solution space followed by use of Gauss-Newton method to determine the optimum in the identified regions. Some well-known benchmark estimation problems are utilized to test the efficiency and the robustness of the proposed algorithm compared to other methods in literature. The comparison indicates that the present hybrid algorithm outperforms other estimation techniques in terms of the global searching ability and the con- vergence speed. Utilizing information from the Financial Statements Statistics of Corporations by Industry, it verifies the precision of correlation coefficients using the Non-iterative Bayesian-based Imputation (NIBAS) and multiple imputation method for all combinations of common variables with auxiliary files. The following are the three important findings of this paper. First, statistical matching estimates of higher precision can be obtained using key variable sets with higher canonical correlation coefficients. Second, even if the key variable sets have high canonical correlation coefficients, key variables that are correlated extremely strongly with target variables and have high kurtosis should not be used. Finally, using auxiliary flies can improve the precision of statistical matching estimates. Accordingly, the durability of ROA in small and medium enterprises is computed. The author finds that the series of ROA correlation fluctuates for smaller enterprises compared to larger ones, and thus, the vulnerability of ROA in small and medium enterprises can be clarified via statistical matching.展开更多
