The existing maritime wireless communication sys- tems are presented and the development of the state-of-the-art maritime communication systems is surveyed. Furthermore, a hierarchical and integrated maritime network architecture is proposed to satisfy the increasing various classes of services which demand different Quality of Service (QoS). Finally, the open issues for further development of maritime communications are identified.展开更多

For DRA (Dynamical Resource Allocation) with de-allocation mechanism, if a new voice call arrives and finds that all the channels are busy, then one of the GPRS packets which occupy more than one channel for data transmission may release a channel for the new voice call. This paper presents 5 de-allocation mechanisms, i.e.DA-RANDOM, DA-RICHEST, DA-POOREST, DA-OLDEST and DA-YOUNGEST, to select the GPRS packet for releasing the appropriate channel. Simulation results show that DAOLDEST achieves the best performance, especially in packets blocking probability, among all the de-allocation schemes. Although the performance of the proposed de-allocation schemes is not significantly different, they are all much better than that of the scheme without de-allocation.展开更多

We can use the proxy and automatic repeat request (ARQ) schemes to deal with this problem. In this work, we investigate the TCP performance over proxy and ARQ in the wireless network. Our analysis results showed that using the proxy can result in lower transfer latency and higher throughput and that ARQ can decrease the loss rate of wireless link and improve the performance with little additional latency. The analytical results were validated against simulations using the NS-2 with some more realistic parameters.展开更多
